  1. I like the Rays & Volk Racing wheels on the Z car and think they look great. I personally prefer WIDER wheels than 7 inch wheels, but to each his own wallet . Davy
  2. It is one of my all time favorite magazine articles. It's like you cannot go wrong with an LSx motor by just doing a few minor mods and then turbocharging the beans out of the motor. I mean, how much power does one really need in a Z to make it fast??!!? I have a 5.7L SBC and I am thinking that once the car is together, simply buy an LSx motor and do the same. I think 600 hp is more than enough for my tastes Davy
  3. Not quite true. They are supposed to have any smog equipment in place. The cars are exempt from testing. Davy
  4. The car looks pretty sooty from the photos--good thing that's about all it was. It would have been a shame to have hurt a nice paint job and engine bay like that! Be thankful! Thanks for the info about the oil cooler adapter. I was planning on running just remote adapter, so I will carefully select my components. I want no mishaps like this--too dangerous for my blood! Davy
  5. Hanns, it's probably just the video, but the hoses look smaller than what would be standard for radiator hoses? is that correct? I am wondering what the size of the hose is that runs under the fender/wheel well. My real question is, "If the hoses are smaller than normal, does the system still cool effectively on the street with that much horsepower?" I'm also wondering what the hottest day is that you have had the car in traffic. I like the clean look of how you did it by the way. Davy
  6. Nice ride, Hanns! Too bad you couldn't have held it just a bit longer--looks like fun in a I-just-soiled-my-underwear kind of way Davy
  7. HAHAHAHAHA! eh, dont ask. I am still working on it since my move to NC. I have some rust issues that I am dealing with. I have 95% of everything I need and more to finish the swap, but I am in rust repair mode right now. I seriously doubt I will ever buy a car with a rust issue ever again, even minor ones. The kids take up my time too, but that's OK and the way life is supposed to work so I am OK with that. Still, I want to complete the car so I can clean out my garage Again, it's good to have you back. Davy
  8. Van, your car is looking good! At least you have been making more progress than I have over the years Thanks for posting the photos--progress is looking really good. Didn't you live in CA last time you were here?? EDIT: I read your location too quickly--yes, you reside in both places. Anyway, good to have you back Davy
  9. Mike, welcome back! Good to see you post after a loooong time. Hope you stick around and have a beer. Davy
  10. I like the SAAB. Cool looking car. Thanks for the link
  11. Or, the other option is to convince the owner to test it with the new oil and filter as mentioned, BUT tell him that you will pay for the oil & filter. He should totally agree to doing it that way and if the engine is worthless, at least you'll only be out of oil change money vs. $250. Sensible. Davy
  12. As much as I truly love the photo of the wheel standing Z car with the blower, it would look that much more impressive with a stock hood (or cowl hood). Once you take it to the track, if you are feeling brave enough to break some things, please take off the wheelie bars and get a camera ready!! That would be so sweet looking... I like the way the wheelstand photo is used to answer the question, "Is the R200 strong enough?" All good stuff. Davy
  13. I'm sure that burnouts are no problem! Car does look REALLY nice... That place must be your "private testing grounds." Nice to have those kinds of places available for "testing," no? Davy
  14. This is interesting...any idea if the dimensions of the MSD unit are the same as a stock Chevy HEI? I would venture to say that they are close. Can you estimate how much space you would need to make it work? I wonder if the difference is the "bump steer spacers" that go between the body and the front crossmember? If you didn't install the spacers JTR mentions, that may be the trick...or just go hood pins like you mentioned. Davy
  15. Jerry, you continue to impress me with some sick builds! That will be a monster (possibly faster than the blown Z?) and probably fun to drive too, hoohaa! I'll have to visit you if I venture down yonder where you are in SC. Davy
  16. Wow, I'm really liking your build--looks to be high in quality and pretty quick too! Davy
  17. Michael, I have followed everything you have gone through with the car over this past decade--has it really been that long??? My gosh, how time flies. I am still working on my car and have actually made some progress in the past few months. Good to see yours is finally driving If I have anything to add to your advice it is this: get a rust free car to begin with that doesn't need paint or anything else. In fact, just buy a converted V8Z from Craigslist and be done with it... Thanks for the updates--I am surprised that the power is less than awesome, figuring on the power to weight ratio... Davy
  18. Looks really good in the direct sunlight. I like the amount of pearl/metallic in the paint to just make it pop in the sun. You are so far along in the project now that you don't have far to go! Davy
  19. Looking better and better! Now just get out and drive it since the weather is getting rather nice Good work and I love the new color Davy
  20. Do you have the mounts switched to the wrong sides? That would certainly cause this problem. Do you have some photos of the mounts on the engine so we can see what you did? You are using a stock oil pan, right?? Thanks. Davy
  21. Stony, I'm not exactly sure if it is your cup of tea, but Porsche 'Guards Red' has a lot of orange in it. It is classic Porsche red, but very different looking (in my opinion) to the more blood red Ferrari "Rosso" red. Check out a Porsche or two to see if you want to go that way or not. It's worth a look if you have not considered it already. Davy
  22. I just read the MSA ad and I'm not sure what they mean by "faux bolt-on cutouts" on the ZG flares. Almost every ZG flare I have seen on this forum is actually bolted on--that gives the owner the utility of removing them very easily if they need to for any reason. To bond them on means permanently installing them. If that is the case, then blending them in almost seems like a better idea. However, you may actually like the look of these, so I won't say anything negative; they do look OK. The one good thing I see is that they can be painted separately from the car, and this is very important if you already have a good paint job and wish to not need to repaint the entire car, which would need to be done with blending in flares to the body. Read about some of the issues regarding the ZG flares in general--they have been designed using an old mold, which has made them inconsistent in the product. Usually, work needs to be done on them prior to installation anyway, so I wonder just how these would fare instead of the ZG flares? If the mold they use is new, great, but if it is old, then I suspect you would have at least a little work to do to them before the final install. Somehow, everyone seems to make their flares fit the car Maybe someone who is using them will chime in. Davy
  23. Thanks for listing the part numbers with the prices, Miles. That really helps those guys that are doing it this way. Nice photos too. Davy
  24. Thanks for posting that. It was great to see Terry's car from all those angles. I'm sure the photos of his car are all over the forum still, but this was good to see it "live." A first for me. NICE RIDE. Davy
  25. I vote for spiraled razor ribbon across the top of the fence. It just looks right You don't need to drill holes in the concrete for the posts, although that makes for a cleaner installation. In most warehouses where we installed fence, we used anchor bolts to fix the flanged posts to the floor; everything else goes up easily. I would utilize at least 9 gauge wire for your fabric. It's harder to cut than 11 or *gasp* 12 gauge wire that seems so prevalent at the home improvement stores. A view guard is also a nice touch, but all this gets very pricey. I like the idea of a cinder-block wall and rebar. That keeps people out. Fences are mostly a visual barrier that anyone with some skill can get into. Davy
