Not boring at all! I liked the video. It was cool to see the engine on video outside of the car. Hanns, do you think you would gain any significant HP by fabricating manifolds that are like reverse style headers? I know you are NOT hurting for power and that this set up works extremely well, but I always ask myself that question. Thanks for sharing the video with us. Good stuff Davy

Joe, I'm not convinced as you are that Benito and HarrisonTX are post whoring. Neither of them are newbies. The thread has an interesting topic and there are many of us that would love to hear about the goodies obtained from the JY at sick low prices. The thread has potential in itself. The location where Dan and Paul have their oil filters mounted gives a lot of room. I saw Dan's in person once and was convinced to mount mine in a similar manner--the install is clean, vertical for a no-drip situation when changing filters, and easy to get to without obstructions. It appears that one can change the filter by just reaching up underneath the car. Nice. Davy

Gotcha. I think cool is a state of mind (but everyone notices ) and it is OK to accept the fact that you are probably cool. It's no handicap I hear you on the power/acceleration issue. I let that one go as well The V8Z is what I have for the adrenaline in my life, and the other cars are for transporation and reliability. What you want to accomplish all comes down to money, basically, with some aspect of time thrown in. Everyone is different and so are the sizes of their families. I was making some points for you to consider since you are headed in the same direction and having kids (which is waaay more important than what I drive IMO). The facts I present are just some things to consider based on my experiences--I hope you do better than I do Good luck, Vega! Davy

Man, don't be unhappy about the possibility of an automatic transmission. Believe me, they help in traffic when you turn around to smack the kids--you just steer with your knees or feet and deal with the situation in back. Again, if you openly consider an AT, you have many more options in vehicles. Besides, they are better for street drag racing anyway. OK, Jon and some others mentioned the minivan. The ONLY reason we didn't go for it was that my wife didn't want to drive one. That left going for a gas-sucking SUV and we ended up with a Suburban. It is a GREAT truck. Very reliable, albeit rather slow, and comfy, capable, and good for towing and highway cruising. It's equipped with VDS (vague directional steering) and should have a 454 instead of a 350. All in all though, I am pleased with the truck. The biggest thing not mentioned is that your cars will absolutely take a beating from the kids. Milk and drinks get spilled, crumbs get into the upholstery, crayons melt into the floormats, boogers and snot get wiped into the seatbelts--that kind of thing. Are you and your wife the anal-retentive type that enjoy things being just so? If that is the case, get the vasectomy now to make it simpler. My gosh, dogs are neater than kids most of the time. Consider this: Your time and energy to clean up the messes go out the door, along with the money if you get your cars detailed on a regular basis, and your wife WILL succumb to feeding the kids in the car no matter whatever you say, unless you are the house-husband who stays home with the kids--then it's you who breaks the agreements with the wifey. There is a breaking point in every adult life about taking care of a 'nice' car you intended to buy for the kids...and that point is when you are coming home from a trip, you are tired, the wife is tired, and the kids are crying louder than you. Your patience and your wits come to an end and you say, "screw this!" Ooops, sorry the tangent...back to my actual point: you may want to consider buying a car, truck, or minivan that you understand will get some abuse over the years. If you lead a normal life (most people do) it happens, almost assuredly. I have considered bubble wrap for the younger ones while traveling, but I'm afraid I'll get branded as an abuser Take my rant as tongue-in-cheek until you remember it five years from now Buy something suitable for them when they are older and being cool actually means something. Looks pretty cool. If you are married, please check with your wife first. I have a very cool wife, but I know where to draw the line in terms of what is acceptable for the interior of the home. She is very accommodating, but I am careful to get her opinion before hanging a work of art in the home. The last one I did was a framed piece of beer bottle caps (sounds stupid but is very cool looking, I swear) so it hangs in the hallway. She actually likes it When it comes to fabricating, I have mostly made brackets to hang items in the garage, using both aluminum and steel. I hang everything from hoses, to electrical cords, to wheels. All of the brackets look pretty darn cool too Good luck with your fabrication of such a lamp--it would be really cool if you made several and sold the others to offset the cost of your own. BTW, Motoart had a reality show made of them back a number of years ago. It was pretty cool for a reality show and I believe preceded the one for Orange County Choppers. Davy

Wagz, Life changes. I have 5 children now soooo, I know what you are talking about in terms of money & time not being there. I have had my project for 10 years and it is still not finished. If things get too tight, I will have to sell too, but I can't imagine that a measly $3000-$4000 will change a tight financial situation (for me anyway). I'm trying to keep (and finish) my project, so I am feeling your pain about having to stop completely. Bummer, man. I wish you and your family the best and hope things change for the better. Cheers. The cost of conversion may exceed the difference between selling the Nissan tranny to offset the cost of a T56 from GM. Just my thoughts. Davy

Make sure you have fully purged your coolant hoses for air. This is a major cause of overheating. Also, if you have not installed a new thermostat, do so. This may be a cause of the temperature running high. Some guys even remove the thermostat altogether, although I'm not necessarily a proponent of that and think of it as a last ditch effort. Air in the hoses or poor air circulation through the radiator is more often the problem. This site is well documented with fixes for this problem...just use the search function and you should be able to pull up quite a bit of information. Davy

Thanks for the updates on your progress and completion with this conversion. I love the idea of doing this on the cheap, using GM products that I know will work. The aftermarket roller lifters are too expensive for what they are. I'll be going to a JY and getting the 2.2L lifters when I get the chance, or even ordering some new ones if I can find them cheap too I have Edelbrock heads and hopefully the 7.5" rods will work. I will probably run my current flat tappet cam and engine for a while and then upgrade to this roller setup. Nice work, Rusty! Davy

If this includes the front and rear bumpers, the price is not out of the question. I would not want any holes for the rubber strips, however! I hope they sell enough sets to keep them available. I prefer SS over chrome. Davy

All of this is purely academic--please note: his car is already black... Scott, it would look good on you car IMO, but it will reduce the 'sinister' nature of your car. It just depends on what effect you are going for. Perhaps someone good at photochop could put some metallic in the paint for ya Davy

All of what John said is true. However, if you have any pride at all (I don't) you won't buy one. Older Nissan/Toyota/Mitsubishi/Isuzu pickups are somewhat cheap and should get decent mileage. Around here my main choice would be the S-10 simply due to availability. I'm a HUGE fan of the Datsun 620 pickup, but they simply don't exist in these parts Davy

UPDATE: WOW! This jelly is extremely yummy! I'm not sure what all the hooplah is about regarding the heat. Yes, it is spicy and yes, I did follow the recipe to the letter. If you enjoy spicy food, this is tasty, spicy, jelly that I know you will enjoy. It's so good that I am considering not giving it away to other people and keeping it in my own pantry. As previously mentioned, you can taste the habaneros easily and then after a few bites, the heat starts to come into play. Mighty fine stuff indeed! My only regret is finding no 0.5 pt jars to put the jelly in. They are more practical and would be better for giving the stuff away as gifts. No matter, though, since I'm keeping it anyway Davy
