Thanks for guys. I didn't know the distant between the diff and the outter flange is shorter at full droop. I will jact the wheel back up a little and give it a try. Thanks Vinh

Phil, It will be very tough to run the pipings if you have the A/C accesories. What size pipes are you planning to run? On a ZX there isn't much room between the belts and the radiator/fan. I've put IC into 4 of my ZXTs and they all don't have the AC. But I know it doesn't matter which route you take it will be very cluttered. Goodluck Vinh

Then cut the light wire feed to the clock and problem solved.
-
I installed a lot of remote car starter and they used a lot of ground trigger signals and on the relay harness there is only 1 big red wire going to it. Then there is a small jumper wire from that big red wire to the + side of the coil of the relay. So yes you don't have to run 2 wires from the 12V source. GL. Now if you use a 12V trigger signal then you can't do that. I am sure you already knew that. GL Vinh

The torque converters are different between the 2 trannies. So are the fly wheels. This is why the bell housings are different. The Max bell housing bolt right into the L6. What was the reason that you want to use the 3 speeds' bell housing? Don't forget to get the drive shaft out of the Max also.

Thank you John, I talked to Ross on the phone too. I will give it a try tonight. Vinh
-
Olie, There is nothing wrong with doing that. Just make sure the main power source wire is big enough to run your load.

HeatRaver, For simplicity you can just weld in a 1" square tubing along the bottom of the rocker all the way from the front to the back. This should give you jacking points any where along the bottom. For the subframe connectors you will need to strip your car down completely and flip it over if you want to do anything like that. If not the welding could be very difficult. Good luck. Vinh

Is this a good deal? LS1 oriented
VinhZXT replied to Tombarace14's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
How many miles does it has on the motor and what year exactly? I would buy it. I paid $5k for 2001 Camaro drivetrain with 32K. Just give you something to compare to. GL Vinh -
C'mon guys. I know many of you used the CV adaptors with your LSD in your Z. My car is a 77 280Z and I am using the 3.7 clutch LSD. The passenger side half shaft is OK but the driver side will not go in and from the way it looks even if it goes in it will bind if I lower the car down. Did I do something wrong here? The shorter half shaft won't fit on the driver side. Thanks for any help. Vinh

Yes. I have both trans with the same number but they have different size splines. One will take the N/A yoke and the other takes the turbo yoke. Check it out and you will see what I mean.
-
There is a switch on the side of the trans for the O/D. Initially my thought is the same as yours. So I ran the wires to the trans thru a switch. But after that I found out that in the absence of the 12V to the switch the car will go automatically go in to overdrive. If you put 12V to it then no O/D. What's important is you must take the fly wheel and the torque converter off the same maxima and the driveshaft also. There are 2 types of maxima auto trans. One uses the yoke from a non turbo ZX drive shaft and the other uses the 280ZX turbo's yoke. I have both of these trans from maximas in my garage right now. I used up the one that takes the 280ZXT's input yoke and it chewed my rear housing up. If I replace the turbo's yoke on my drive shaft I can put the other auto trans in my 280ZXT without having redo the driveshaft. I might do this in the future who knows. Good luck. Vinh

Hi guys, Anyone used MM CV adaptors with the 280ZXT CVs? I am having some problem installing the driver side CVs with the billet MM adaptor. I put the short CV on the driver side and it doesn't look like I have much room for compression.
-
You will need the maxima fly wheel, torque converter and flex plate. There is no magic how to hook up the o/d switch. If no voltage then it's in O/D. If there is voltage then it's not in O/D. This means you don't even have to hook up the switch. I put the maxima trans into my 82 280ZXT once before but because my driveshaft was a bit long and it chewed up the rear cover of my trans. I haven't found a replacement since so I put back the 3 speeds auto. GL Vinh

which clutch master? wilwood, tilton?
VinhZXT replied to that240guy's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
What did you 2 do to connect the GM master to the Datsun pedal? I haven't seen anyone mention anything about that. I will attempt to adapt this thing tomorrow so I will find out. -
You should have all the info in this thread alone http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114311 . If not search then look on my web site. GL

which clutch master? wilwood, tilton?
VinhZXT replied to that240guy's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Guys, I am in the process of buying the clutch master for my LS1 swap also. Quik240Z told me he used the clutch master from http://www.sdpc2000.com PN# 15033924. I got the part and the hydraulic line looks long enough but the push rod on this thing is too long. I wonder anyone used this clutch master cylinder. If you do then what did you have to do to the push rod to get it to fit in the Datsun clutch pedal? I was successfully swap out the Datsun push rod into the Camaro clutch master cylinder. However this new clutch master cylinder's push rod is a lot smaller so I am not sure the Datsun rod will fit. Here is a picture of the new clutch master I am talking about. Thanks for any help. Thanks Vinh Here is the pix of the camaro clutch master that I swapped the Datsun rod in. But the problem is the hydraulic line is too short. -
First congrat on the completion of the swap. I see you got it done in a short period of time too. So what is the total cost for the swap? I am doing a speedy swap for my friend's Z also and my receipts add up roughly 8K not including my labor. Thanks Vinh

I got the radiator with all the hoses connected. Here is another longer video of the car running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjhKdh7reHQ I hope to finish up the exhaust system this weekend. I am thinking of putting 2 flex pipes before the sidepipes. What do you guys think? Either that or I have to put some hard rubber mounts on the side pipes to allow them to flex when the motor twisting. Vinh

We are trying to get my friend's Cobra done during the winter months. I would love to come to the SEZ to check it out. My friend's just open up a business this week so I doubt he will go any where but I definitely talk him into going to the SEZ. Mike, If you need help with the wiring let me know. If not just send me your harness and I can redo it for you. I also have Jesse's info also. GL. Vinh

Clive, Here is a picture taken awhile back when it still got the L6 in it. Those side pipes got to go BTW. I ordered the sidepipes from Summit last week. They should be here very soon. Yes money is an issue for everyone doing this swap. You can find out how much we spent for this motor swap on page 9. Not cheap. I told my friend to expect to put in 20K to get this car completely done. I can see a big smile on his face after a test drive of this car. Only then he would be glad he spent the money to do this swap.
-
Clive, 3 weeks to be exact. But it I think I put in around 60 hours into it. Not including running around getting parts lol. I am waiting for the driveshaft, clutch master cylinder and side pipes to complete this car. It will probably takes another 20 hours to finish up the exhaust system and gauges. Not bad of a swap at all.

Silicone, I don't have any experience assemblying these motors so I am not going to mess with it. I can add a few more grand to the 6200 and get a full LS7 drivetrain from a corvette junkyard near where I live. Fparts from Ebay is 1/2 hour from me and they got plenty of low milage HP motors there. I already bought a couple of motors from them so the next deal I will get more discount from them. Thanks for the info though. Vinh Clive, Sorry for hi jacking your post.

Hey, I am right around the corner too. I am hoping to get my friend's LS1 Z on the street next week. I just got it running this past weekend. We gotto have some kinda celebration here on HBZ for all the LSx swap. I am already looking for another LS1/2 for my other friend's cobra now. I am going to shop around for my LS7 to replace my LS1. GL. V.

Mike, Keep checking page 8 on my homepage. I put everything on page 8 for my friend's swap. Got the car running this past Saturday. Here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDTTHLnHkv4 I also received the radiator that afternoon. We installed the radiator and electric fan today. I should finish up the radiator hoses tomorrow after work. Hope I will receive the sidepipes by tomorrow so we can finish the exhaust up before my brother going back to VietNam. After that just hook up the gauges and some small stuffs and I am done with this car. Here is a picture of the radiator installed.
