  1. If cost is a factor i would stay with stock L24/E88 combo. If you go with N42/F54 and stock head you would need to put a bigger valves in it which will cost you more money during the rebuild. I think if the car is a hobby and cost is an issue you should stay with stock.Performance can be incresed by using 5 spd and 4.11 rear end. And also do the search you can find a lot of answers on your question.Good luck.
  2. There were 4 types of E88 head. Very limited run of first E88 had the same combustion chamber as E31 head, then in 71-72 second type of E88, '73 had different shape, and the last one in 74 wich was used on 260Z, the last one had bigger exhaust valve if i remeber correctly. You can read about it on http://www.zhome.com and they have picture too.The best E88 consider 71-72. I have E88 with N42 valves on N42 block. I like this combo, but with flattops you will have CR around 9.8:1 with no over bore and about 9.9:1 with .02 overbore. Depending on gasket this CR will be different. With FELPRO CR will be higher ( according to L series engine programm ) With dished pistons you won't have pinging problems. CR will be around 8.5:1. In my case i run into few problems. I had junk yard E88 which was shaved before i got it, and i never bother to think about it, assuming that the had is just a slightly used.So i ended up with CR more then 10 and i faced pinging problem,on 91 octane gas which we have in LA. So i had to take head off and put two head gaskets which cured the pinging problem. After all i am happy with what i have now. If you want to go with such combo you should think about CR first , wich one you want to have and then proceed. Also E series heads need bigger valves in order to work properly on L28 short block. Just my .02
  3. Hey Larry, welcome back !!! I was on a business trip and didn't check this site for few days. It's good that you have a place to stay and your wife is still with you and the dog remebers you now ))
  4. Brian, just curious what suspension/brake set up you have? And r200 3.9 is it LSD unit or open one. Sorry, just red this info on your web site. Are Tocikos adjustables or non? And which break set up did you use, also what about bushings rubber or polyurethan? Thanks Brian.
  5. The carbs is not mine, and yes, i am joking, the price just way too high. And i have perfect ZTherapy carbs on mine 73.Thanks.
  6. I was looking around and found the "best" carbs for my 73Z. It doesn't matter that they need rebuild, they are "very" "very" cheap, especially with "buy now" option .And you have only 10 days to buy, manifold comes for free !!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33550&item=7953425256&rd=1
  7. Well, it's been two years, Larry should be out by today.Any news from him?
  8. OK i did search on this question, and not much came up and i still don't understand it.Can you, please, expain to me is it bad to have negative deck height in n/a engine.I am thinking about combo L28 crank,L24 rods,KA24 pistons and E31 head with 1 mm HKS head gasket. In this case there will be negative deck height of 1.37 mm is this really bad? How it can affect n/a engine work ? Less HP and Torque ? And what about positive deck height is this affects engine performance too? I think that "0" deck height is the way all engines go in production, am i wrong? Can someone clear this for me,please. Thanks a lot.
  9. Well, if you planning to go turbo later i wouldn't do anything right now.Just save money for your future turbo set up and enjoy car the way it .Everything wich will be added to your n/a L24 won't be used on L28ET engine, so things like ZTherapy carbs for $500,headers $160,performance cam kit around $400 are basicly useless for the future plans. As soon as you start going fast with your current engine you will need the longer time to save money and swap turbo engine. But of course if the money is not an issue then go for it, do porting, polishing and 3 angle valve job too, but i think those things will be better on L28 rather then on your L24. If you absolutly have to be faster in your 240z i would simply add 5 spd ( you will need it eventually with turbo ) and swap 3.9 or 4.11 differential. I bought R180 for $150 and it was very good and inexpencive swap in my n/a 240z.So my advice, don't waste money, save up for turbo swap.
  10. Look what i found while looking for other hybrids on line. It's not a Z , but i like it anyway. Should be a good sleeper though. What do you think? http://www.volkswest.co.uk/vwproject.html
  11. Front :15/16 mc Toyota 4x4 ('80) with cross drilled rotors Rear : original drums with MSA shoes SS lines front and rear. Works really good for me.
  12. The car is definetly ugly, at least for me.What i wonder who are those people who bet on it? it is $14300.00 and reserve not yet met....gees for this amount of money you can get a lot of therapy hours and a better car.
  13. It was interesting, i bet they will rerun it,so you will be able to watch it again, just follow the scheduale of Discovery channel for Monstre Garage. It would be more interesting if they put VQ in 240 Z though
  14. Are you guys watching it? Monster Garage, they took new 350Z and B210 Honey Bee and want to swap engines.Interesting That's a hybridZ right???
  15. David, welcome abord.I think the best way to answer all your questions is to do a search, there is tonns of info on this side and many question which you asked already were answered, also look at sticky, at top of the forum. If you don't find info here, do search on http://www.zcar.com. Trust me,you can read for days. Good luck with your project, David
  16. Hello everyone.I did 79-82 Toyota 4x4 front brakes swap.It works great, i really like it and recomend to everyone who still have original brakes on 240z. But i run into one problem, right pads time to time develop rattle noice, really annoying. My car was checked by two shops, noone can find problem, they say it looks and works normal. As soon as i drive few miles from the shop rattle starts, when i push break it goes away. Then starts again. I did install springs but not shims. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell what's going on ,also i wonder if it's safe to drive like that. And yes, i checked archives but didn't find answer on this topic. Thank you.

Welcome abord! If you have time, then look around, sometimes you can see nice 240z with turbo L28 swap for sale. Those cars sometimes have updates like suspension,LSD,t3/4 turbo.Plus asking price is not that much.If i would do my project all over again,i started to look for a nice car with updates.Don't buy cheap,it will cost you more on long run. Good uck with your project!
  18. Hello,in my 240z i have 2 1/2" pipe size, this is turbo exhaust system from MSA, i want to change muffler to Magnaflow 14829 but it has 2.25" inlet. Should i have different muffler with 2 1/2 inlet or it doesn't matter. By the way, does anyone has this 14829 on 240z ? Thank you.
  19. Hello everyone.I have 240z which i use just as fun weekend ride.I need advice on cam selection.Currently i run L28 .5mm overbore,E88 head with N47 valves, head was ported and polished, valves have 5 angle job,SU ZTherapy carbs,280zx ignition. What i have in is .480 lift and 274 duration made by Schneider. I have 280zx ( tranny and 4.11 R180. Car runs great, but i am planning to install 4.37 R180,and i wonder if i need to update my cam to one with .460 lift and 270/280 duration. With lower gear i will accelerate faster and i will be spending more time in higher RPM range. So what do you think is it a good or bad idea? MSA catalog has this description for this cam: "rougher idle, exellent performance, pulls hard from 3000 to 6500 RPM. With all new cars comming to market i see that 0-60 mph time is going down and right now for sports cars is around 5.4 sec maybe less.I don't have ability to change my n/a set up to turbo or V8 right now (this probably will be my next project ) but i still want fast Z and keep up or try to keep up with all new cars out there.I know this set up won't give me average 0-60 times, but i said at least try to keep up.... Thanks,David
  20. I was reading article in Motor Trend about Ford GT, and i though that those tail lights will be looking good on 240z,downside on this those light will be expencive.Maybe anyone can use photoshop and create such picture?
  21. If you are new to motorcylce, then 900 Ducati will be too much bike for you.I recently bought Kawasaki Ninja 250 and i am very happy. Before you consider buying i'd suggest you spend time searching on net what's is best for you.Try http://www.beginnersbikes.com there is a lot of info on all bikes for newbies.Do search for Kawasaki Ninja 250. I'd say buy Datsun it's better for everyday use, plus what you gonna do when it will be raining or snowing? MSF course is a must for new riders for sure,so maybe you go to the course and decide after it what you really need.Just my .02
  22. Z3 M couple is more of an exception, i don't argue about it, it's looks really good, maybe there is couple more examples, Volvo P1800 on of them.I should say these cars look more like hatchback rather then station wagon. But it is my opinion, that in general sports car and stationwagon won't give nice curves and looks.I can't imagine Camaro or Mustang or Porsche in station wagon form.Hatchback maybe, but it's a different type of body though.
  23. I don't know WHY people come with such ideas. I think sports cars and station wagons don't mix.I saw pictures of 66 Ford Mustang station wagon, and i saw one on the streets of LA, still original is much better car. Guess it's just a desire to do something special. But i want to buy station wagon i'd look on volvo first.
  24. I think the back of the car looks like Volvo P1800.
  25. Use search option in this and turbo forum, you will be reading for hours and get a lot of info, more than you asked.Good luck and welcome to HybridZ.
