Wrecked my Z 1 week after I'm back on the road

I've got almost the same setup except mine's stroked and it runs 10:1 compression. I couldn't tell you how close the cam is to yours; but the engine is in my 280zx with a 3.90 rearend and it's pretty ballsy. I don't know how well those heads are going to run on a 355 with 9.3 compression though. They're a bit much I would think but with the 3.70 rearend and an overdrive you might just love it. Let us know how it comes out!

haha, the only engine codes I've ever figured out is the L28 and I know that a "t" or two "t's" means it's turboed..... (Chevy guys only know engines by their displacement I guess)

HAHAHA, not thinking I copied and pasted Jersey's post into word to show it to my fiance. It thought for a second, spit out the text and then started underlining each word in red one by one...... Couple the information he had in his post and the fact that your brain flips everything you see because initially you see it upside down and you can see why some people are so stupid.....

I agree with the modern science part. Two of my relatives have had the 5-bypass surgery shortly after their heart-attacks and the hospital spits those things out like nothing. I believe the doctor here said he does 13 bypass surgeries a day!!!! Seven days a week! He flies between here and another larger city, and I think he works a month straight and then takes a week vacation. $$$$$$$$$

This subject reminds me of shaking hands. Most people around my age want to do the whole hi-five hand shake. I was not raised shaking poeple's hands that way and when people come towards me with their hand partially extended around their chest area I usually grab their hand and shake it. A traditional handshake just holds more dignity in my opinion. However, on occasion I will let loose a little and shake a friend's hand the more modern way. This same frame of mind applies to the grammar used in posts. There are a lot of respectable people here with more knowledge than most people I come into contact with day-to-day. Therefore, I approach posting in the most respectable way possible. I think that this site is and should be held to a higher standard than mosts forums (all that I've ever seen). However, once you deem yourself as higher than everyone else you have to be weary of being snotty. A kind request to be more grammatical in a person's first post is perfectly justified and that person's response to a kind request should determine how they are treated afterward.

I'll have to see what they look like in person, maybe I'll need some spares...

The more I look at it the more excited I get and besides the jacked up air dam the thing is surprisingly straight and in good condition. I go and pick it up next weekend. I'm pumped! Transportation is working itself out and hopefully I can sell one or two cars I already have.... hehe. I've really been trying to figure out what kind of drivetrain this thing is going to get. The first thing I'm doing is the body work so I'll have time to figure out the details. BLAH BLAH BLAH......

Right on, throw down some pavement. When I was going out with my gf in high school and it wasn't cool with the school (a very legalistic private school) one of my teachers said, "You know, I like what you're doing because I know there are a lot of kids here that want to have boyfriends and girlfriends but are afraid because it's taboo here; but, sometimes the pioneers are the ones that catch the arrows."

Z weight after R-230 conv. and other mods...

Is there a table somewhere about the weights of each Z car through the years? I've never seen one but I'd be really interested. -
GM 350ci/290hp crate engine
280zwitha383 replied to xxjoeyxxeb's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
First, let me say I don't have the 350/290hp engine in my Z. With that said I would encourage you to use the $2200 (or 1600 if you just buy the engine only and not the package) and put it towards something that you would like later. If you buy this engine and build it up later I guarantee you that the only thing you will use is the intake, block, maybe crank, and maybe rods. Besides the air gap intake, the heads on this thing are crap for performance. The compression (pistons) is crap for performance, you might be able to put 64cc heads on it and get it closer to the compression you would want. Lastly, the cam is crap for performance. If you have the money and you just want a reliable engine and don't care about modifying it in the future then sure get this engine. Otherwise I would advise you to look elsewhere. Actually if you have the money and want a reliable crate engine get the Ram Jet 502... BTW, welcome to the site. -
(Bump) Wondering if anyone has come to a conclusion about this. I've been through a handful of ignition modules myself and I would love to convert it over to the 4 pin GM HEI module. My module doesn't have the connection on the side for the advance but I've had some '82's that do and this would be valuable IMO if someone has done this.

Also, you should be able to hear the electric fuel pump when the car is in the run position or when cranking (assuming you haven't altered the wiring for it). I would hook power straight up to it (shows you the + and - in the manual that you can get to from inside the car pulling the foam thing, if you still have it, up and the wiring is sitting right there) and listen to it. Could be wiring and not the actual pump.

I run a stock mechanical fuel pump on my ZX (383). Works great and it's a lot cheaper. The only upsides I see to the electric pump is cooler fuel and possibly a pony or two from the lack of friction from the pushrod and not having to pump the pump with the cam. Paint the thermostat housing!!!!

This will be a long time in the making but I would like to eventually have a megasquirt controlled 5.7l Vortec engine in my '73 240Z. I searched for "Vortec" under the Megasquirt section and it said no matches?!!? So, I was wondering if anyone has done this here and (now I'm sure this is a shot in the dark) if anyone makes a pre-made wiring harness for using MS with the vortec engine. So far all I have is the engine with the intake. I atleast need to get a stock wiring harness so I can begin splicing this thing together. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ~Lance

Well things might be coming together a little better. I have a friend who will pretty much set up everything I'll need to get the thing back (as long as his dad will let him) and I know a person from work that will let me put up to 5 cars at her place which is a little ways out of town! Maybe I'll get to keep this thing after all and since noone seems interested in it. I've been playing around with three ZX's and I've never had a Z. And, of course, you always want what you don't have. I do think the older Z's look a lot cooler than the 280ZX cars.

So here's the deal. I won this car on ebay for a killer price (I think) but the more I look into getting it here the more I realize this is not a good time for me to get another car. So, as long as this is not against some ebay policy, I am offering this car up for sale for $500. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Snazzy-White-1973-Datsun-240z-Parts-Project-Car_W0QQitemZ8037361020QQcategoryZ6783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Please P.M. me if interested. If I don't figure out anything by Saturday I will just go and pick it up. Thanks. ~Lance

5.5 inches? Shoot me in the face. (We need a smiley for that btw). Any good suggestions for getting a car back for about a 7 hour drive. I'm thinking take something that doesn't suck too much gas down there and renting a uhaul. The alternative to that is taking my truck down there which will cost about tree fiddy in gas. I can probably find someone who has a car hauler. Hmm....
-
Funny that you should say that because I thoght they were ugly myself. While I was talking to the person by email they were talking about how nice the wheels were and how they were worth the price that I paid for the whole car. I think they would look really nice if they were painted a different color maybe. Who knows, maybe they clean up nice.

Well' date=' I'm sorry. I have never seen a point in jacking up the bidding price hours before the auction is ending just to get in a huge bidding war at the end. I still can't believe I got it for $355. I was getting cold feet in the last few minutes and I thought I would just put $375 in and see what happened. I just [i']knew[/i] I would be outbid.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I won!!! That is so friggin awesome. Thanks for the heads up on the car. I seriously can't believe I won it for as cheap as I did. Now all I have to do is sell 2 of my 280zx's so that my fiance won't give me such a hard time....

I'll tell you this much, I'm working on it!

Lube shop screwed me up... what action should i take?
280zwitha383 replied to olie05's topic in Non Tech Board
When all else fails, I usually use an adjustable wrench and a swift kick. Actually skip the when all else fails part . -
WOW, at first I thought she was doing the moving..... I liked it better that way.
