  1. if it wasn't so loud with the side-pipes that would definitely surprise a few
  2. hehe, yup that's perfect when you don't have A/C in the Z. It's funny because for me winter is the time the Z comes out alot. In the summer it's waaay too hot.
  3. This is another post in the non-tech board (Check out the bottom of the bottom link..... might be good for a few laughs): Check this car out, its super fast what you guys think? would you buy it ? hehe http://autobytel.espn.go.com/conten...icle_id_int/916 http://autobytel.espn.go.com/content/shared/articles/templates/index.cfm/article_page_order_int/3/article_id_int/916
  4. It's exciting to see how excited you are If you want to hear the thing run for a little longer hook up a hose to some sort of cup and gravity feed it. Be very careful pouring gas straight into the carb because if for some reason you backfire out of the intake fun things start to happen. I wouldn't know from experience on that one or anything....
  5. yeah, I think in a heavier vehicle vacuum might be the way to go, but in a Z(X) with 3.90 gears the darn things just don't seem to work well. If you have too light a spring in there it's fun once the engine catches up though.
  6. I don't know what to tell you about the problem you are having, but if you take the module off and have it tested make sure and put the dialectic grease on it when you put it back together otherwise it will burn up for sure (assuming you didn't already know that). You should probably check and make sure your rotor isn't loose because a loose rotor will always stir things up a bit.
  7. I've finally got my 670cfm street avenger close to being tuned right. The biggest mystery to me is that the idle mixture screws don't really affect the vacuum, anything less than half a turn and the thing won't run right, but anything more than that and my vacuum is pretty constant.... Needless to say sometimes I still scratch my head over it.
  8. Part of me is disappointed and part of me is not. I just ran Spybot for the first time (first time ever running an anti-adware program) and it found nothing. Hmmm
  9. yup, that's usually a good sign you're about to totally screw something up
  10. If I had to guess I would say firing order. Usually firing out of the intake is a sign of bad timing... I wouldn't think that a bad wire would cause the problems you are desciribing, but stranger things have happened.
  11. Getz, are you referring to a small block in a 280zx or in a Z? I have already done a carbed small block in a 280zx and I'm just wondering some general things about the vortec. I haven't seen the engine yet in person and I don't know about hood clearances with the intake of the throttle body being toward the front of the engine. I would be curious to know if the stock exhaust manifolds will fit but I pretty much assumed that I would run some headers (probably the ones for the ZX from JTR).
  12. Interesting point' date=' I haven't thought of that. That reminds me, I was going to ask what is a good book to get. Do you have the JTR book and if so what is your opinion of it?
  13. Well, I'm about to get a 350 vortec engine from a guy here on the forum and I need some advice. I've looked through a good bit of the old threads and it seemed noone posted about their vortec swap after they had already got it running so I'm hoping maybe this will become something of an updated vortec thread. Anyway, my plan is to build a nice little daily driver, keep the fuel injection (which I don't have a wiring harness or computer for) and run a overdrive tranny of some sort. I have a 700r4 sitting in the garage but for a daily driver and something that I don't need to complete anytime soon I would love a manual tranny. Driveability, dependabilitly, and initial cost of the swap are my biggest concerns. What I would like to do is rebuild the engine to stock specs not even worrying about replacing the pistons unless the compression is junk (basically new bearings and rings), and maybe find a T5 that I can use as is. I'm not planning on putting this thing through much abuse. I would love to find a t56 but I don't want to shell out the cash for one. I think I'm going to fabricate my own mounts because the stuff from JTR is nice but very simple. Some of the things I don't know about are: - Does the vortec 350 clear the hood (this is a ZX)? - Should I try and find a junkyard wiring harness and computer or try megasquirt (I know next to nothing about either one and I'm definitely going to have to do some homework in this area) - What have others done as far as the cam? For $250 for a new roller cam I am very inclined to use the one that's in there but I realize the cam is for a truck and probably not best suited for a light car with 3.54 gears. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  14. I feel better about myself after reading all of that but I know that mine is coming. Probably the worst thing I've done so far is not bolt the shifter cable in right on my ratchet shifter so I was stuck in 1st gear after a hard launch racing a camarao dude and taking it up to about 7.5k (too much for a 383 with stock roller valve-train IMO). Other stupid thing I did was set my hood up against the fence only to have it blow down and then I ran over it late one night after coming home from work.
  15. that's where I take all the things I want to get running, to the commuter geek...
  16. He did it on purpose?! Holy crap, if that was me once I was big enough the old man wouldn't have any hands to worry about ever getting slammed in a car door. That's personal right there.
  17. The thermite is cool and all that bit but what caught my attention was that 8 gallons of gas has the little car on a full tank. Sounds like a keeper, be it French or not.
  18. absolutely not, I have a pair of center bolt heads sitting in my attic and they are definitely NOT vortecs. I forget the casting #'s and years they came on but do your homework if you're going to a junkyard. A local machine shop here sells a set of worked vortec heads for $350 which I think is a pretty good deal (just an idea), they might even be cheaper now since all this ls* craze started.
  19. peanut port is of the devil 305 is of the devil Invest some money in cylinder heads. If you can afford it, buy some BB heads. If not, I agree with the idea of vortec heads.
  20. 5 liter chevy or ford? BTW. Hi and welcome
