  1. Did they make a 280z and a 280zx in '81? I posted my response thinking he meant a 280zx because I didn't think they made 280z's in the '80s.
  2. You say '81 280z? I'm not sure if they're the same but my tach in my '82 280zx did not need a resistor (when I put one on in the first place it didn't work right so I took it off and it worked fine), just adjust the screw in the back of the tach. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  3. I get tickled when I spank the crap out of flashy Mustangs and the driver won't even look at you. I do also like handing it out to Camaros that have louder than stock exhaust (and usually nothing else) and go around revving on it all the time. It's the guys that don't show off that I'm scared of. In my mind when you got a little something you don't feel like you have to prove anything but you don't mind showing the little dudes who have put a muffler and a K&N on and think they have something what's up.
  4. Hot throttle cable huh?! Looks like I have some more grounding to do. I just thought it was from the underhood temps and scratched my head about it for a few and forgot about it. Hmmm....
  5. My fiance is looking for a new car.... But to have her car faster than mine... hmmm.
  6. Just FYI, (if you don't care to read about ANOTHER persons story please stop reading here) I'm planning my second swap which when all is said and done will be my daily driver. Fuel injection, overdrive, and A/C. Currently I have 2 running vehicles (one a hybrid) and between the two I have one vehicle with A/C (no OD or FI). At the moment I have the funds to do the project but not the time, hence the planning. I will have to spend a lot of time studying the wiring for the fuel injection and also buy and learn megasquirt which will be my biggest hurdle I'm afraid. Other than that I pretty much have everything down. mild fuel injected 350 vortec + 700r4 + 3.54 rearend = PERFECT daily driver, atleast in my book
  7. I learned how to drive a stick in an 89? LeMans that I bought for $250. Ah, the mammaries....
  8. You do have a point about the multi-weight oil. However, common sense will tell you that when metal is warm it expands which makes the clearances tighter and will result in less wear. That is fact, not just an urban legend.
  9. You should let the car warm up regardless of how well it runs when it's cold. When you start going immediately after you start it on, the clearances in the engine are looser and therefore wear much more quickly on everything. With that said, an overdrive is very close to a must in my mind for a daily driver unless you have atleast 3.54 gear because a V8 turning that many rpms is just busy sounding. It is however very responsive My truck has a 350350th with 3.73 gears and stock size tires and it is slightly busy sounding on the highway and of course the gas mileage is horrible. Anyway, I figure that with the small diameter of the tires on a Z and the 3.54 gear it would be similar in rpms to my truck which is bearable but not ideal.
  10. Well, this is my first speed related ticket ever. I was turning on a local street and maybe half throttled it with the music blaring so I'm not sure if the popo was telling the truth or not but he says I smoked em through first and then chirped into second. He was kinda a jerk but it was by no means an unbelievable story. SO, my question is, should I plea no contest at my court appearance and maybe hope that the judge is having a good day, or are there other implications to pleaing(?) no contest. I have heard that when they do credit checks they can see where you have plean (yea like that's a word) no contest. Advice? Thanks guys.
  11. How did this little project begin? Looks very nice btw!
  12. Crappy English in an understatement: -we have to pay too much money for register it here -I has the oportunity to buyit from there -The car was buyed from US -it´s perfect compatibile to your standards -you will don´t have to pay more duty taxes on it -I have to pay an very expensive duty taxes. -The car it is still register in States. -The original receipt and all remainded warranty information packet with enrollment number is included for you.
  13. You gotta throw in Grumpy and his completely unfounded advice.....
  14. Check this out. Kinda scary what you can find on the internet these days! http://www.license.shorturl.com/
  15. yeah, I've seen some of his posts but I'm not sure exactly what he does. I know they make sure there is little angle in the shafts by putting spacers on top of the struts or something like that. I think that guy should have his brother do a writeup and then someone should sticky it. :hint hint:
  16. I bought this '81 280zx off of a guy and started cranking on it because he hasn't run it for a good while (years). First thing I notice is I can't hear the fuel pump when the car is in run but when I turn the key to start it whines for a second and then stops. I took it off and replaced it with one I had laying around and the other one did the same thing so eventually I put the original one back and manaully ran 12v to it while I was cranking it but nothing really happened. Sometimes the starter wouldn't even engage and after I manually ran 12v to the pump everyonce in a while, without my wiring, the fuel pump would come on and seemingly run like it was supposed to but then the starter wouldn't engage! I have not extensively checked the ignition switch which I will do shortly but other than that this thing is pretty finicky. I swapped around all of the relays in the box by the front passenger strut tower and checked the fuses and fusible links and everything seemed fine. Anyone ever had this happen or have any ideas? I have an ECU out of an '82 280zx but I'm not sure if they will fully interchange. I know that the ignition module on the '81 is different than the '82 but that's about the extent of my knowledge. Thanks for any help.
  17. Also, there are a few reasons I run those tires still. The biggest being I am scared of the rearend. I have a different diff. and some 280zxt CV axles and I should really stop being a pony and throw the bigger tires on there and if it breaks then fix it. I'm also kind of tired of throwing money into this thing. I go through thoughts like that and eventually I will get the fever again and get it done but I don't see it happening for atlease a few months. :sigh:
  18. Wouldn't that mean you have to start paying taxes if you were to get a business account? You say start making money off of your friends but the hassle of recording all of that crap and paying taxes doesn't seem worth it to me.
  19. Interesting about the drinks. Neither of us drink alcohol but from what you say they charge for sodas also?! That won't work and if that's true we will definitely be buying the drinking card. Maybe we'll start up a new habbit..... I guess you can't hurt anyone on a cruise as long as you don't jump off.
