brianZortiz Posted October 9, 2014 Share Posted October 9, 2014 Hey hybridz. I just picked up my 16x10 rs watanbes from Eric Vaughn machine out here in SoCal. I had him widen my 16x9 -13 and add 1" more lip. I will be using 16x9.5(stock) in the front and 16x10(custom wide) in the rear. I then had the lips mirror polished. Removing the previous machined lip. If you guys have any questions, feel free to shot them at me. As many of you know, Watanabe only goes up to 9.5 in their 16" wheels. I needed more lip and aggressive style to my wheels so I decide to invest some more. First Pic is stock 16x9.5 and the rear is custom 16x10. The second pic is after they were polished. I was too impatient to get mine to wait the months it would take to get it done at the factory. I also wish there were more tires for a 16" wheel, I have 16x9 F and 16x9.5 R wats and could only find decent tires (BFG SportComp) in 225/50 and 245/50 They look awesome in the rear, but a little too stretched up front. brianZortiz Posted October 10, 2014 Author Share Posted October 10, 2014 Thanks s30z aficionados. I will be using 245 45 16 fuzion zr1 in the rear and 225 45 dunlop direzza up front. The 225 will be replaced after some driving to 245 45 all around. It's true 16" tire options are not good. I will be using bridgestone potenza re-11 or Toyo Proxes T1R. Both come in 245 45/16. I think a big push from porsche guys has increased the demand for 245 45. A lot easier to find than before. Polishing cost $30 per wheel Widening cost $220 per wheel. CarolinaTZ Posted October 14, 2014 Share Posted October 14, 2014 I just found an old receipt from 1984, when I had the stock 14" steelies widened 2" front, and 3" rear on my 77 280Z. Had it done at "Rim and Wheel House" in Spartanburg for $25 per wheel. Also found the receipt for the tires that went on them.....BFG T/A's.....245/50/14 front, 265/50/14 rear. I did this to fill out those Bob Sharp flares! Forgive my reminiscing. Did he have to heat treat or do anything special to keep the strength in the wheel? Nice work on the Wats! They are beautiful! Eric cut the wheel and got another half and heat sunk the wheel onto the wat. He insured that it would be strong. He said he welded it to make sure no air leaks.
