Mayolives
I need to replace the oil pan gasket of my 78 280. Can this be done by unbolting engine mounts and whatever other items like perhaps rad. hoses, etc up top and then jacking the engine up a bit? HuD 91gt
I did mine on my 240z without removing anything. Wasn't as bad as I had read it can be.
HuD 91gt
I should say I didn't have the rad in at the time either. Not sure if that would have gotten in the way. No crank pulley either.
Dat73z
I removed my pan in my 240z and installed the AZC pan as well. I recall pulling the pan was fairly straightforward. I jacked the engine up a bit after loosening the front mounts and tied the engine off by the hood latch. From there just carefully maneuvered the pan out around the pickup. Installing the AZC pan with the engine in the car was a different story though but also doable.
blue72
I believe that I've done it without removing anything but the pan bolts and the perhaps the pickup tube bolts. Remove all the pan bolts, wiggle and position the pan until it either comes free, or you can remove the pickup tube bolts with an open ended wrench. NewZed
There are threads about it. on the Hybridz site. Apparently, positioning #1 so the crank weights are out of the way is important.
grillhands
I did it with the engine in the car. If cylinder 1 is not TDC then you won't be able to maneuver the pan away from the block.
Mayolives
Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about the crank shaft position but it makes sense. I'll give it a shot and then post just how well, or not so well it works for me.

Mayolives
Easy------Peezy....................I removed the motor mount bolts then jacked the engine up a few inches. After I removed all the pan bolts, I had to reach between the block and the pan, remove the two bolts that secure the oil pick-up, and then was able to remove the pan. I have the AZ pan and don't know how this would work with the stock Nissan pan. Having to replace the pick-up bolts was a bit of a challenge. It just took a little patience. But really not that difficult.
