Fast Floridian's 240Z Track Build

Recommended Posts

I started tearing down the motor today. I’ll probably work on it some more tomorrow, would like to be painting it this month. Also starting to design and fab the fuel cell supports. Going with some 1” square tubing.

Cleaned up the block, got it primed and painted this weekend. Replacing pan and timing over, will paint timing when it gets in. Now I can get new parts on the engine, I’ll start with swapping the cam next weekend. Also ordered the TKX transmission should be here this week.

Got timing cover painted.

Spent almost half the day dealing with a bolt on the timing cover/water pump that had broken off in the block. Tried all types of extractors, ended up having to drill it out and re-tap it a size bigger.

Got the oil pan off and installed new pump and pick up for the new baffled oil pan.

Got the main seal on, set the timing cover on and called it a day.

Ugh...broken bolts in the block.  What a pain.  At least the motor was already out of the car!  👍

Making great progress -- keep the updates coming!!

Thanks guys.
I got the timing cover and water pump on, ordered a windage tray then I can get the oil pan on and start working on the top.

Mounted the fuel regulator started making some fuel lines. Need to figure out filter placement then I can cut and finish the rest of the lines.

I’m using black for fuel, red for return and blue for vent.

What oil pan are you using?

You'll have to set the motor back really far to get a front sump pan behind the front crossmember.

I'm using an Aviaid Mangusta pan on mine and I needed a custom crossmember to get the front sump to clear.

You caught my screw up. Unfortunately that oil pan doesn’t work, gonna have to replace it 😤. I ordered, basically the same thing, but a rear sump. Hopefully I’ll get it on this weekend. I went with a moroso baffled oil pan. I should be able to make this one clear the subframe.

Screw up fixed, new oil pan is on. Had to modify windage tray for rear pick up to fit. Started on the harmonic balancer, not sure it’s on all the way, hopefully I’ll get a little more time tomorrow.

Snugged up harmonic balancer and installed pulley. Water pump pulley doesn’t fit, hole in center needs to be slightly bigger, about the size of that indentation. I’ll get that on another day.

On my car, I am using the SN95 timing chain cover, water pump, and pulleys.  By doing so. I have a couple of extra inches of space at the front of the engine.IMG_20211104_091616386.jpg.ecc37b433db5d7796d33165c61cfb594.jpgIMG_20211104_091631782.jpg.59ccc0269047b5626dc762a864e81590.jpg

Thanks sharing the pics. How do your oil temps do? I’m thinking of going with 2 smaller coolers so I can mount them right behind bumper on the sides to get direct air. My 370Z over heats at the track with oil cooler, intercooler and radiator all stacked.

Without the oil cooler, my water temps were never an issue.  Never over 200 on track.  When I put the Aviaid Mangusta pan on the car it had a provision for an oil temperature sender.  Even though my water temps never got too hot on track, once I installed an oil temp gauge, I discovered that my oil temps were getting near 300F.

I added the Setrab 34 row cooler, and my oil temps stay below 250F.
