Brad-ManQ45
What is wrong with the server setup on the hosting site that causes such slow response times?
calZ
Seems fine to me. Must have just been an intermittent issue.
flatout
it didn't occur to me that it could be something specific to this page but mine has been painfully slow for at least a month. Just assumed it was something to do with my internet.
Brad-ManQ45
Today is the first day in over a month with no problem. No slowdowns on other sites. Just left and came back with same problem - took over 1 minute to load, 15 seconds to go to particular forum.
calZ
It's doing it today. It's never been this bad for me before, but I see what you mean now.
Leon
I just got a bunch of timeout errors today. Interestingly, the site also no longer remembers where I left off on threads I've read before.
jhm
Ditto. Seems slower to load than previously -- I've also noticed it's worse with some web browsers vs others, depending on what operating system you have. I'm only guessing here...but it may be due to the fact that our hosting site has certain updates available, but they all cost $ and we don't have the funds to pay for them. Dan's been running the forum on a shoestring budget for several years now (often paying for operating expenses out of his own pocket); and as a result, our software's not fully up to date. rturbo 930
Seems like half the time the site isn't even accessible. What's going on here? If money is needed, then I would suggest starting a fundraising campaign with its own separate thread. In the past, they've done well. Maybe another merch run if Cockerstar is up to it. The site is slow as it is due to the decline of forums. If this site becomes regularly inaccessible, it's probably going to kill off the remaining activity it has completely. Forums these days are mostly running on momentum, site problems kill that.
Brad-ManQ45
A slow-responding forum is commonly caused by high server load from excessive traffic, inefficient database queries, too many active plugins, unoptimized heavy images, or poor caching strategies. Other factors include network congestion, inadequate hosting resources, or unoptimized JavaScript. In other words, unless the forum owner owns the server - money ain't the problem - it's the server connecting to the internet.
