What Would Make My Z Perfect?

Phantom

Recommended Posts

Mike Kelly brought this up on another board. What would each of you do to your Z to make it perfect for you? Don't go nuts, keep it within reality of what can actually be done with equipment that's actually available.

In my case I would take my current car and:

1) Upgrade the brakes which I'm in progress on now.

2) Redo the interior in a custom color combination leather and carpet.

3) Install a nice sound system and about 50lbs. of Dynamat.

4) Get it repainted to freshen up the 6-yr old paint.

5) Chrome plate and/or powder coat many of the vbare items under my hood.

-getting it running would be a good start

-I would love to have it stripped down, cleaned, and painted the chassis so it's like new

-better fuel cell and surge tank

-better chassis reinforcement

- pair of saw-249 machine guns on roof or fenders

1) Right now I am installing willwood 13" 6 piston brakes

2) Interior is on the list

3) I have 2 layers of dynamat in the car, I even have it inside the door. This is a must for a Zcar

4) Paint--- I will have this done in a few months--A must

what would make my Z perfect for me...

would be to get it out of the 1.7 year sentance its been serving in paint jail.

-then it would be to install a vintage air monster AC system

-programmable EFI

-Leather and suede interior with colour matched stitching (actually half done on this)

-Tokico illuminas

-Giant brakes

-18" gunmetal 3pc. Watanabes

-install my Alum. radiator

-tinted windows

-lojack W killer alarm

-super nice LCD screen that controls the nice (but subtle) stereo and

Displays all of the engines vitals

-a climate controlled garage for year round storage

-Monterey California climate, with San Antonio Prices

-My girlfriend in the passenger seat holding a sack with dollar signs on it as we travel across the continent just wasting time taking photos of the worlds largest frying pan.

-A trunk monkey

ummm, and thats pretty much it.

Ive already done the sound deadning and heat sheilding making the car surprisingly quiet and comfortable.

-new front air dam (good luck with color matching.. 2 body shops laughed at the idea)

-rims and tires

-piping for my intercooler

-stop it from running rich (10 mins. to install fpr  )

-enough time to install what i've bought (boost gauge, z31 seats)

-rolled wheel wells, zg flares

-front carpet (back looks great, but i can relate to ghetto jobs!)

-winning lotto ticket to make it run 12's

Well, I've driven my Z once, so the road to perfection is going to be a long and winding one. So far the only thing keeping me from driving it is that the brakes didn't work when I bought it.

Right now I am working on:

1) Brakes, suspension, etc. All parts have been ordered.

-- 5 lug all around (duh)

-- 4piston in front

-- 240sx in back

-- tokico struts

-- Modern-motorsports coilovers.

2) Wheels. I NEED WHEELS.

3) Dash, interior

-- Autometer Sport Comps, six of 'em. speedo, tach, water, oil, fuel, amps

-- stereo. I need to figure out how to build a preamp for my iPod.

-- seats?

After that's finished, I'll be able to drive it (if it passes inspection.)

Now to really answer the question:

4) Paint/Body work. shave everything. reconstruct rear light panel. (mine's dented). remove all rust. really.

5) 450HP L31 Twin Turbo. (and necessary upgrades.

That's it. My guess is three years till completion.

Pete - guy - you got to settle down and focus on one car if you're going to have it ready by the 2006 convention! :D

You going to be at Christy's on Sunday for the Cowtown party?

Agreed 100%. Finding the mis-matched chassis numbers on the car really threw a wrench in my plans. My attitude about it changes daily. But you asked today, so I gave you today's attitude.

I'll PM you for details about Sunday. I've misplaced the info.
