mark
Engine mount was reinforced with .25 inch plate mounting points need to be changed slightly for the rack to fit tightly. I'm sure you could just bolt in it is but it would not be stable. I know of no bolt in swap.
drunkenmaster
OK, maybe it is offset more for the RHD model. What year and model is your Subaru rack? Thanks for your help and photos, I will pick up a rack and take photos as well when I get back home from Japan next month. Thanks 8)
drunkenmaster
Also is it a must to use a matching pump to the rack (subaru -> subaru), or just an OEM pump for the motor (nissan -> subaru).
Tony D
hydxraulic flow and pressure are hydraulic flow and pressure. The 240 I know of used brand X rack, and the easily available and pre-made bracketry affordable 280ZXT pump to drive the racks internals. Worked just fine. I have seen GM pumps on Fords, Chrysler Pumps running snow plough cylinders, Nissan pumps converted into a PTO for a logsplitter on a front mount hitch, and GM pumps used as PRESSURE WASHER PUMPS! So the pumps are very versatile. Very versitile indeed!
drunkenmaster
Thats what I was thinking but I was unsure if different makes use different operating pressure.
Tony D
Pressure is usually adjusted by spring bias and you can adjust it fairly easily if you think it's too touchy or sluggish... Most Japanese Systems are all made by the same company anyway. Teh only time you would run into strange compatibility problems is seapping American and European, or Japanese and American, etc etc etc... Except for Jaguar---the old KJ6 and XJS had Saginaw Steering Gear power steering, my father in law was a foreman on that line. They distinguished the steering boxes by the size of the quill shaft connecting the wheel to the steering setion of the box. Corvettes had a very stiff and torsinally rigid shaft, so they had a touchy steering response. Jags got a soft shaft, which softened the steering response. But from what he said, everything they produced all worked on the same pressure, Response was dictated by internal parts that moved valves and etc.

zemus
Just going to clerf. If I am running a L28ET with a Powr steering pump already on it, it will be fine with the Impreza rack? Also how much do all of this run you guys (eather spectrum would be good, which would be new parts, and JY parts)

Workinprogress
There seemed to be a question as to which year's fit and which tie rods ends to use. I was wanting to know if these issues had been resolved and if it was compatable with the LS1 conversion (looks like its not, but willing to learn) Thanks,
mark
I have the rack mounted in my 72 with John;s cars ls1 mounts. I did have to use a smaller crank pulley to clear the rack but it will work. Mark
Workinprogress
Here's specifically what I'm looking for: Which year/model of Subaru is the donor car? Which tie rod ends to use? Any clearance issues? (looks like crank pulley is it as of now) Thanks

Guycali
Anyone know if Subaru has smaller turning circle radius than Mustang or Miata rack?
dot
When I turn mine real hard the wheels rub the frame. You can’t get any tighter than that.

I just go another 280z and want to do this conversion before I put it back together. the link from before doesn't work.
AK-Z
Oh forgot to ask if a 280zx PS would work on a 77 280z?
