RayG1988
Hey there, my name's Ray and I got my first Z a few weeks ago. It's a silver 1979 slick top 280zx (N/A). I plan on restoring it as much as possible before it's 30 year mark (when it becomes an antique) And once it dies I'll swap in an L28ET or an engine out of the RB series. Here's some pics:
Mike kZ
Welcome to the site! Looks like you have a bunch of rust repair to do, good luck, and have fun!
Chewievette
Is every ZX missing that upper windshield trim piece? My parts car never had one and one of the guys in the club had his blow off on the highway. Must need a little "help" to stay on. Looks like an excellent project! I wish mine looked that good when I started.

z_cars_rule
reminds me of my S130 when i first got her, i did the same thing, kept the stocko motor while i took care of the body, but it soon made way for an RB20DET. good luck, and enjoy the ride. My parts car never had one and one of the guys in the club had his blow off on the highway. Must need a little "help" to stay on. Looks like an excellent project! I wish mine looked that good when I started. All 3 ZX's I've owned have had that trim piece in place just fine. Strange. Don't have a whole lot of practical experience with the 280ZX but I don't remember ever seeing one with an R180 and half shafts before??? Dragonfly In 79'&80' only the manual 4 seaters and the GL models got the R200. 81'-83' the automatics (non turbo) still got spade and had R180. Its a '79 they got all the lesser things, the higher speedometer almost makes up for it. too true But MAN, I LOVE the black interior and that's in great shape RayG1988. I think you've got the best BASE to work on for the 280ZX cars. Rack and pinion manual steering, manual windows, slick top. Gosh, gotta be at least a good 100 pounds than the last cars to roll off the lot in 83.

I drove mine around all weekend and my arms are sore:rolleyesg

280zwitha383
Well, my '81 got none of the good stuff. No power locks, no t-tops, no R180, no speedo. It is noticeably easier to push (lighter) than my '82 before the engine swap of course.
