jeffer949 Posted September 24, 2007 Share Posted September 24, 2007 i had an idea like that.. i wanted to do it on my van (econoline 150 with a 351 windsor) i used the van for hauling my dirt bikes around to races and thought it could use some more umph but i was young and nothing materialized other than just an idea.... mario_82_ZXT Posted September 25, 2007 Share Posted September 25, 2007 Not only that, but if you control the bypass electronically (which most newer s/c have built in), you can accomplish the same thing. There's a twin turbo supercharged WRX that uses one of these electronic Mercedes s/c and switches it off once the turbos build like 3lbs of boost. I remember a thread about the car in Mad Max... where he "turned the supercharger on". People said you couldn't do that. I wondered why not ?? With the bypass you still get the drag of the s/c without the added boost. With the electric clutch you can drop the drag and the boost all together. There is HP losses on every pulley in a system. One more thing, all of you FI guys might want to look at his FI conversion on this project. SilentNight1647 Posted October 6, 2007 Share Posted October 6, 2007 The reason it wouldn't work in Mad Max is because it's a roots blower that have a boost tube that you can pull air though if disengage it. Believe me I thought long and hard about the Mad Max setup and why some stuff would and wouldn't work. It's one of my favorite movies.
