Z-TARD
I haven't handled one of the newer Sigma pistols, but a friend of mine had one of the early production versions back in 98, that gun was total crap. It was reliable, yes, but accuracy was totally unacceptable. That was one of the first gen Sigma's though, the newer ones are supposed to be much better. The light rail on the front of it looks like it will only take lights/lasers made for the Sigma, it lacks the cross slots found on the standard picatinny rail most lights and lasers are made for. Personally, If I were buying a S&W auto pistol I'd go with the M&P in either .40 or .45 ACP. http://www.xdpistols.com/item.aspx?PID=67346
wigenOut-S30
My first pistol was a S&M SW9VE 9mm.. It was dead set reliable.. but yes I was not very accurate with it. The trigger pull was just too much for me. I had it for about a year and sold it. Now have a CZ75 compact and freaking LOVE IT!!
Z-TARD
I've heard a lot of good things about the CZ75's, although I've never had a chance to shoot one. They have a pretty strong following among target shooters, like the 1911 and Glock. Here's a 1911 that's in the same price range as the Sigma: http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=8108844 And it's even approved for sale in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia too: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov (Search for "Armscor Precision")
Forrest
That's at least 50$ more than they're going for around here. I don't like the gun, but then again I don't like shooting polymer framed guns period. On the upside, everyone I know who has picked one up has said they haven't had any real issues with failure to feed or extract.
TravRMK
I would steer clear of the sigmas. They work fine, but the trigger sucks, and are far from accurate. Springfield armory has a polimer framed line called XD, and I have a XD-40, it is close to that price, and is a great gun. If you are really into accurate autos, 1911's are hard to beat. I have one of those too, and love the feel, and accuracy of it. Good 1911's are spendy though.
MrFancypants
Springfield armory has a polimer framed line called XD, and I have a XD-40, it is close to that price, and is a great gun. I have an XD-9 and it's lightweight, low kick, nice action and most importantly very accurate. I havent had better accuracy (but a lot worse in some cases) with any other handgun I have fired. Last I checked they run around $450 for a kit with magazines and case, though. - Greg -
NCchris
I agree with most of the feedback so far. Do you reload? If so you might want to consider a larger round than the 9mm. Seems that the "good" loads for the 9mm are usually a compressed powder charge. This makes it a pita to get all the powder in, move to the seating station and start the bullet without spilling powder everywhere. I have experience with .380, 9mm, .38 Super, 38/45, and 45 ACP in my autoloaders and the 9mm is the least favorite. I really like 6-shooters best, don't have to chase brass. chris
G.I.jonas
Id have to agree with most of what has been posted. My friend has that same gun in a .40,he likes it quite a bit..however he likes my springfield xd-40 a lot more, for good reason. As far as accuracy i feel like im shooting a rifle with my xd. capt_furious
Aux, you should handle my Witness a bit and see if you like the CZ75 design...ask Don about the Sigmas. And I'd cast a vote for the XD, as well. ...I'm still looking for a cheap pre-'60s Colt Detective Special.
auxilary
Wow. On multiple forums everyone replied about the same. Guess I'm not touching the sigma Z-tard: yeah, local shop has RIA filipino 1911s in stock for about 400. The handgrips are a bit thick for me, but it's a good starting platform. however, I don't know if I want a .45 yet. I'd love a 1911, but not yet

Since I got into 1911's, I can't bring myself to buy anything else now, especially plastic framed guns without exposed hammers. However, the new HK45 is tempting..... capt_furious
Makarovs, TT-33s, and CZ52s are always fun budget guns, as well. 7.62 x 25 is a HOT round, and all three of those can be converted to 9 x 19(Mak from 9 x 18). They'll go with the rest of the Eastern Bloc collection.
Mikelly
Pretty decent gun. I've owned two of them and my business partner owns one. They're not a glock, and aren't as accurate, but the fit and quality is decent and for the money, you won't go wrong. Mike

No point converting a classic to 9x19. honestly, if i can find a decent cheap beretta or taurus 92fs, i'd probably be happy

I'd thought I would share it.http://img.redwolfairsoft.com/upload/bullet/53/PMS2-L.jpg Uhmmm, don't get cought with one of those home brewed silencers, unless you are OK with a felony, and a prison sentence. Not to mention no more guns ever (legally).
datsun40146
Just out of curosity, but does the felony only appy to firearms or do things like paintball markers, airsoft rifles ect. fall in that range as well?
capt_furious
Man, it's probably not even a good idea to ask, as that indicates a desire to explore the idea further. *waves to the friendly BATFE agent now brought here by an NSA sniffer program*
Z-TARD
Just out of curosity, but does the felony only appy to firearms or do things like paintball markers, airsoft rifles ect. fall in that range as well? If the device looks like it could in any way be attached to a real firearm, I'd rather let someone else get caught with it. I'm pretty sure the silencer itself, regardless of what it is attached to is considered illegal without the proper BATF permit and tax stamp. Packing with cotton, probably not the best idea either as it will probably just light up like a tiki torch after a round or two. This is probably a better place to talk about silencers and related topics: http://www.silencertests.com/
