Guest Rolling Parts
Here is a picture of the piston set BEFORE re installation into the block: Here is the problem assembly (swapped into #1 hole as sugeested by jt1) where the problem followed the assembly and not the crank location. Since a penny is about 1.5mm then I was guessing that it's about 2mm "short" after installation: Here is a picture from slightly askew to see the curvature a bit better than straight on: Here is a picture of the problem assembly (left) beside the "spare" rod (right) that I will be harvesting from a long forgotten short block I had stuffed under another workbench:
Drax240z
Oh wow, no mistaking that once you are looking for it!
Brad-ManQ45
Guys: Glad to see you had a rod problem, but it definitely wasn't because of a 240 rod - it's LONGER than the 280...
Tony D
No photos for me... >:^( Damn computer. I'll look on my kids with the new big LCD screen, he's hardwired to the router and not experiencing the issues I have of late on the work laptop... johnc
I've seen a L6 engine where the #1 cylinder had a piston with a higher pin then the other five but that was a cheater ITS engine designed to fool the SCCA "whistle" compression check. L28 crank in a L24 block.
HowlerMonkey
That is funny....I've heard of that too. What's amazing is those cheater engines ran fine with an obvious difference in compression in one cylinder. It kind of makes you wonder why you would spend the time CC'ing combustion chambers after seeing that.
