Zmanco
I can't tell if the timing light is firing in the video. Was it flashing at all? If so, then try it with the pickup on sparkplug #1 and see if your timing is set right somewhere around 10 degree advance. If it's not firing, then it may very well be the coil driver in MS. naviathan
You telling me you can't see that nylon screw head is melted on the VB921? That thing got hot.
jacob80
So may we conclude that my VB921 is fried, and that it is safe to assume that is my problem?
Zmanco
There's no need to assume anything right now - install the new driver and see how it goes.
naviathan
Yep, I would say so.
jacob80
Okay, well, we'll see what happens. I'll let you guys know what happens when I put it in. I appreciate all your help. Obviously, if it wasn't for you guys, I would not have been able to figure this one out. Thank you

Matt Cramer
Here are photos of my board, doesn't appear that anything is fried, does it?? The melted screw on the VB921 is a classic sign you've overheated the VB921 and made it burn out. You'll like the new BIP373; it's nearly impossible to burn one out even if you try. (And I tried a lot of things before we brought them to market, believe me!)
BLOZ UP
You think that's burned out? I should show you my old MS v2.2 board...
naviathan
You think that's burned out? I should show you my old MS v2.2 board... I burned one of mine once. Actually cracked the transistor. Same reason too. I had the dwell set too high, then it stopped running and would fire intermittently like the video.
rvannly
I'm assuming the VB's burned out because of the dwell settings. Will it be ok to run the same settings, that made the VB's burn out, with the Bip3373?
Zmanco
Why would you want to run those longer dwell times? With a street coil you'll just generate more heat in it without much more spark.
SleeperZ
I'm assuming the VB's burned out because of the dwell settings. Will it be ok to run the same settings, that made the VB's burn out, with the Bip3373? No point. Optimize the dwell and keep the heat out of your driver and your insulation.
