z2go Posted September 19, 2010 Author Share Posted September 19, 2010 While waiting for the car to come home, I went ahead and did some work on the differential. Opened it up, cleaned it up really well, and painted it with some POR-15. I also got bored with it and decided to polish up the cover, and cleaned up the fill/drain plugs. Absolutely not necessary... but I think it came out really nice. Now, it's filled up with oil, has a new breather, and is ready to go in when the car comes home. I just got a call from my guy last night, he said it will most likely be going to paint on Wed or Thurs, and should be ready for drop off within a week after that. z2go Posted October 5, 2010 Author Share Posted October 5, 2010 I stopped by the shop today to bring the motor back home, and took some pictures of the car with my real camera. Most of the parts are ready for paint, only the hood and one door have some issues to work out. He estimates it should be done by next week. I also took the Supertrapp muffler out that I've had forever, with the intention of taking some pictures to put on Ebay... but then I feel back in love with it again. I just got a call, it's going to be sprayed this evening, and then likely home by the middle of next week, if everything goes as planned. z2go Posted October 17, 2010 Author Share Posted October 17, 2010 I'll get some good close ups of the lizard skin too. There is some over spray from the primer, but I know some areas still look like it did when I sprayed it. One thing that we found was that nothing sticks to the lizard skin for some reason. Masking tape, painter's tape, even duct tape doesn't stick for very long. It might be because of the texture. You will see what I'm talking about when I get those close ups. I didn't use lizard skin for the undercoat, I used Duplicolor professional rubberized undercoating/sound deadening spray. I sampled a few different ones, and I like it the most because it had the most flexibility, stayed dark (didn't turn light gray like others) and seemed to be the most rubberized. The body isn't 100% done yet, mainly the bumper needs a little bit of work for fit and the grille needs to be painted and put on, and small touches here and there, but I have it home now to start working on getting the project going again. I tried to snap some up-close pictures of the lizard skin, but it is kind of dirty, mainly from dust in the shop, water spots from wet sanding, etc, so it's not so pretty anymore. I'm going to try to clean it up, vacuum it, and see what it looks like. It's really tough stuff, after it dries it really seems like it would take a lot to chip it off. It has a really rough but fine texture, and it grips onto microfiber cloths like Velcro. It's really interesting stuff. I'm going to see what it does with water, too. Anyway, here's the pictures. In different lighting the paint really reacts differently, I'm going to try to get some pictures with natural sunlight tomorrow. These were taken halfway indoor and outdoor, and the sun was just barely still up. It's also very smokey here right now, there's a fire somewhere that is killing visibility. I pushed the car out into the sunlight to take some more pictures to try to get the full effect of the color. I couldn't really capture it on the camera, I don't know why but the metallic effect doesn't show up as pronounced as in person. Here are the best shots that show the range of the effect, you can see the green and yellow flake start to come out on the corners. In person it's a lot easier to see. Me likee... If I hadn't already chosen my color I would seriously be considering this one. But you got it first anyway! Are you going to put the original chrome bumpers back on it?
