2/70 240Z found in field

VIN on this car ends in 1749 and data plate says mfg in 2/70.  Has a valve cover that says "Datsun 2400 OHC" and an intact pointy top radio antenna.  Some rust in rear fenders and along bottom of hatch opening.  Doors good. Interior a mess but mostly there. Minor body dings.  Bumpers are straight.  This car is going to a crusher unless someone wants.  PM me if interested.

The car appears to be restorable. I need to correct the valve cover - it says "NISSAN 2400 OHC", not DATSUN.  the car also has dealer installed air conditioning which was very rare in the first year 240's. The car is not free.  Owner is looking for $1k for it.  It has no title - he lost it - but it is possible to obtain a new one.

I'm considering buying the car, stripping it of the good parts and then sending it to be crushed but the VIN number is low enough that it bothers me.

How are the framrails and the floors? seriously interested, the model year makes it alot easier to modify and register over here and i am having trouble with the one i have(73).

 

Do you have more pictures? Are there any major issues that are easily identified? I wont be using the engine, gearbox or diff so theire condition does not matter. The interior is of little interest as well.

I could use a helping hand getting it to either of Newark NJ, Baltimore MD, Charleston SC, Brunswick GA if i where to buy it(obviously to the closest port).

Need some papers with it(title) as well.

The closest port is Seattle! Or LosAngeles. Or Oakland. There is absolutely no eason to Trans-ship the car to the east coast for shipment to Europe. The cost is cheaper to ship from west coast port than the Trans-shipping to East Coast USA!

 

Frank280ZX & I generally ship to Rotterdam a container in April. Six cars $3,500 TOPS, but packing stuff is around $100 per car and you gotta have someone to pack it. A shipping company can do it. For $1,000-1,300 and in some cases come pick it up within a given distance from the port.

 

Peter Smits Global (?) a part of CRS handles individual cars when we only need to ship one. The 85 Mercedes 380 SEL we shipped in April has been reprinted and went through Dutch Inspection three weeks ago. Top down cruising till the end of summer as planned!

 

Don't limit your shipping options to he east coast, you CAN ship out. Of SEA-TAC easily!

Aha, My shipping company wants 2700$ for taking that car from Long Beach to Oslo for me... that seems a bit steep if you can get a car over to Rotterdam for less than half.

That looks like it's awesome shape compared to  my # 5832.   Really though the low vin is noteworthy but doesnt' really add much value to the car in a non-restored condition.  We've had that discussion before.  That being said $1000 is a great price if it's not all rusted out.   Sounds like you need to get Tony to ship it out for you. car hauler to seattle... Seatac to Norway, Oslo home, that shouldn't be too bad right?   Oh, be sure to label it as misc auto parts.

Yup, IF it isn't rotten, and IF i can get a reasnoble shiping deal i am on it :)

A problem solved for me, the other shell can og into storage for future use or become a flower box or what not...

I hope this works out for you.  Series 1 240Zs are getting rare.  Hell even that valve cover is worth a few hundred bucks to the right buyer.  It would pain me to see this go to the scrap yard!  I just came back from ZCON and I was able to see #13 in person in original condition.  Some people say it needs a full restoration but I like the originality of it.

Really? 1500$ Jetcarrier has online prices on their pages, they ship from the east coast and take 1460$ from a US port to Norway, 1000$ extra for crosscountry shipping from California. They where cheap when i shipped the Stroker over by rowboat. On top of that com expedition charges and taxes.

 

I might need to talk to my relatives who import directly from california.

 

Still, I need to know more about the condition of the body.

This is awesome that it might get a new exotic home. I really loved Oslo when I was there. A Zed would be a lot of fun out there, though, I probably don't have to tell you how much fun they are on ice. I don't know how strict the training is in Norway, but if it's anything like Finland's driver training, then you're in great shape!  Rear wheel drive, no ABS, no power steering. Though I'd imagine you'd use it as a dry weather car...

Z on ice? not in this country I would't :P The roads are salted during winter to a such an extent that the roads are dry at -10C sometimes. Mostly snow and ice turns into super corosive slush. My 73' hibernates from October to April when in use, it has been sleeping for two years now wich may be enough to declear dead ;) it will rise again, but likely not as a roadcar.

On the otherhand, we do make ice tracks on frozen lakes and rivers for fun and games. Skinny tires with "swede" rally spikes and you are on your way ;) cooling won't be an issue at least.

 

Does anybody know any good shipping companies based in the area where this car lives?

Calship.com is getting a quote for me now.

Jetcarrier is stil an option as they will delivere to my doorstep.

OK, Here is the scoop on the car.  It has no title - the owner lost it.  It can be retitled here in WA if the car is running and can pass a state mechanical safety inspection.  That will add cost to the car if I have to do it. I'll add several pictures but here are some bullets:

VIN HLS30-01779

Mfg 2/70

Color code 901 - metallic silver

Black interior

4-spd

Dealer installed AC

No radio

Dash is cracked but not decimated.  Could be "preserved" and look ok.

It has a complete center console in decent shape

All gauges but don't know if they work or not

Battery is dead

Mechanical fuel pump has been bypassed and the car has an electric fuel pump

Gas tank is fouled so fuel filter plugs almost instantly

Front fenders and hood are original and undamaged with only ome light supervicial rust in some areas.

Front bumper is straight and shiny

Rear bumper is straight but "carbon monoxide oxidized"

All glass is in grate shape

Gas cap has the chrome locking lever

Frame rails, floor pans, spare tire well have light surface rust but not rusted through.

Bad nes stuff - someone put a sunroof on the car, both rear fenders have rust through spots on them and the lower sill of the hatch opening has rust.
