  1. I have arc welded and MIG welded, and have a Miller 175. If I were looking for a MIG today I wouldl probably get a Hobart Handler 140/180 because they have a better lower end for sheet. BUT I LOVE MY 175! Don't go cheap on welder - harder to use the cheap stuff, and resale is nil. Get a good one and you're able to w4eld better, easier, and can sell for a much higher percentage of what you paid for it.
  2. Why do you think you need to weld on the coled side, and make the turbo more unwieldy to handle? If it is a matter of adapting from the outlet of the turbo to the 90 degree bend use an appropriate coupler.
  3. Tube and fin highly efficient? Last I heard that is the oldest of intercooler technology and that Bar and Plate is more efficient - or else Corky wouldn't be using/selling them.
  4. Quotes To Go Down In History. And, if anybody thought that 'Dubya' was stupid........read on! "The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country." - John F. Kerry "If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." - John F. Kerry "One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." - John F. Kerry "I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." - John F. Kerry "The future will be better tomorrow." - John F. Kerry "We're going to have the best educated American people in the world." - John F. Kerry "I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." - John F. Kerry "We have a firm commitment to NATO. We are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe." - John F. Kerry "Public speaking is very easy." - John F. Kerry "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." - John F. Kerry "We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." - John F. Kerry "For NASA, space is still a high priority." - John F. Kerry "Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children." - John F. Kerry "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." - John F. Kerry "It's time for the human race to enter the solar system." - John F. Kerry
  5. So you're admitting the Democrats ruined a perfectly good economy in 8 years and can't give the same amount of time to the people who inherited the problem - sounds like typical Democratic thinking - little logic and lots of hyperbole to confuse the masses. We have already found trucks used to transport gasses. If we search long enough, or wait long enough, we will either find or have pointed out some WMD. By the way - Russia, Britain and Israel also had intelligence pointing to this capability. I guess you'll just have to mark me down as one of the 40% that support the war. I'll stand by what Zell and Dick stated about Kerry - they just paraphrased me elaborately and in Zell's case much more elegantly - or at least effectively. My last post on the subject because I won't debate with people that cab't use logic to support their rebuttals. I like Arnie's take on who is a Republican - If you think you can spend your money better than the government.... Democrats want to take more and more to make the people dependent upon them - that's where they get most of their support - the masses that don't want top think and just want to get taken care of.
  6. It has already been established why we attacked. We had reason to believe Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Saddam was a butcher and blatant supporter of terrorism - both in and out of country. With major caches of high tech weapons/delivery systems already being found I have no doubt that there is more. If you honestly believe that the world would be better off w/Saddam in charge of Iraq, you have a serious mental deficiency. If you want to blame Bush for the decision he made based on the intelligence received, then start spreading the blame on a few other presidents who cut back funding for intelligence - both Democrat and Republican. Kerry is a known quantity also - of low quality - he has managed to shirk his duties and resonsibilites in both military and political venues. Not only that, he shows a remarkable lack of insight into economic realities - which can be said of most Democrats. His voting record is pitiful, whenever he DID show up for them. Bush on the other hand inherited an economy which had already started its' downturn before he even got in office (thank you Democrats), and had to react to 9/11 in the manner he deemed most appropriate to information presented to him. He certainly didn't bury his head in the sand or try to cop out - he took action to protect the citizens of this nation knowing that there would be all kinds of recriminations - yet made the hard decisins anyway. I can't see Kerry doing this...nothing available so far has shown me that he has either the character, mettle or acumen to be President.
  7. Reminds me of the joke - you the two things meaner than a pit bull w/AIDS? A woman w/PMS and the guy that gave it to him...
  8. How can you talk about SLEEPING next to that/those? You must be one'a them funny boys....
  9. One winter in Hickory, NC I polished my aluminum valve covers for my '72 351CJ Mustang. Utilized sanding block, multiple grits of wet/dry and finished with SimiChrome. All by hand (too cold to go out) - boy did they look good!
  10. I just went to Customlock's house last night to look at his project, flip spit, swap lies and tell jokes. He has an '82 ZXT that has the Tokico package on and it is definitely slammed much more than my Eibach/Illumina setup...
  11. My brother had an Opel Manta that I always wanted to put a Boss 302 in - until he totalled it.... I used to work w/someone that restored BT's - had a few of 'em...
  12. jeremyvaldez - you didn't read my post (on ZCar.com) properly - you DO need to fabricate spacers...
  13. JTR offset is 3/4" to passenger side - same as stock engine location.
  14. Bolt pattern is same for all 4 bolt z cars 4.5"=114.5mm. Offset of 280 ZX is 10mm positive I believe.
  15. The NICO forums had a post about this:> The Q45 from 90-96 used an R200 (independent rear suspension) The 97 to 200x (can't remember when the 3rd gen came out) used the R230 (independent) as does the Armada - the offroad pkg gets the 3.35x ratio. The newest (3rd gen) has NON-Limited Slip rear end!
  16. Marcus: What size rims are you using? 225/50's will work on 7" rims but will probably not handle as well as 205/55's. Better ride, more consistent behavior near cornering limits, less rim damage from potholes, fills up wheelwell better - plenty of reasons to go higher sidewall/aspect ratio. I really wish I could get good 15' tires - I'll probably go w/16's for my V8 '75. I have an '83 ZXT with swaybars/tokico/eibachs and 7" wide 16' wheels that I run 205/55 on front and 225/50 on the rear. The rear is a little squirlier than when I had 205/55's on the rear too, but it does ride a bit better. Had Goodyear F1 Steels which you can't get any more and one caught a nail (warranty was worth paying for!), had 2 replaced with the 225's - latest and greatest Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. The F1 Steels were much loved by the Impala SS crowd as long lasting. They certainly had stiffer sidewalls than the GSC's I had on the car before (that only lasted 10K miles). I had the same setup with the GSC's as I do currently. I almost wish I had gotten 205/55's to compare against the F1 Steels. It is my understanding that the sidewall of the F! Steel was steel too, which would explain why they were stiffer than the GSC's. The current rears have a nylon sidewall ply. I went back to 225's because it was too easy to spin the tires w/the 205/55's and I'm not gonna autocross the car.
  17. I once read a magazine article that ran some tests on a much-modded Eclipse w/8" wheels. They had 245/50/16 tires on it, then swapped to 225/50/15 (same manufacturer/model) and it cornered and handled better - the tire didn't wiggle side to side as much and had a more consistent temperature across the tread (meaning more of the tread was working more often withe the 225's). FWIW...
  18. If you have lowering springs, the warranty (KYB) is void...
  19. Nope - input shaft is different.
  20. Main reason for 2001 or later is intake manifold from Z06. Great price if both engine and trans are good - you can buy the manifold and STILL be ahead....
  21. The L88 is a cowl induction hood. I guess if you leave it open at the back at all times, at no/low speeds it would definitely vent air out, but at higher speeds it might not help and maybe would do the opposite *lower floq theogh radiator to engine compartment) AND cause front end lift (high pressure from the cowl).
  22. personally have no problem keeping the cat on my ZXT - when I went to 3", I did a 3" cat too. I may lose 1-2 HP, but feel better about not polluting as much. Of course in order to get registered in the Metro Atlanta area, you have to have a cat, but I'd do it anyway. I read somewhere that in the case of the LT1 (and probably the LS1/6) engines, that the use of EGR allowed advanced timing and better fuel mileage while cruising. Under full throttle applications, the EGR didn't work. To my mind, with (factory) computer controlled cars, you don't lose much and in fact gain a lot with the standard emission controls. I'm not saying they can't be improved on for better performance (tweaking ignition and fuel maps), but don't think the trade-offs in removing emissions is worth it. JMOHO
  23. If you're going turbo, ubless you go radical w/the engine 4.11 is too high (numerically). Many would say 3.54 or 3.7x is good for turbos.
