  1. I had to dig, but I thought I would provide what information I still have on the swap. If "Zcar?" can get the adapter plate in 0.5" aluminum (I think that was the thickness of my old adapter, Spork can verify) you can then use the following information. I used the following company to manufacture the flex plate adapter from steel as well as the ringless flex plate...http://www.wilcap.com/ Below is a picture of the flex plate adapter and here is the drawing file name "flexplate_adapter.prt.4" in the following folder...http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/3liter/pics/trannyadapter/ (please verify it is the same dimensions as the picture below) Use the above folder to see the pictures for how the setup was installed, which I will show below... Flex Plate adapter First step was to install the adapter... Next install the OEM flywheel, which I think was from a maxima I then installed the flexplate adapter I then installed the Wilcap flex plate At this point the back of the L28 will mirror a Chevy engine so you can use off the shelf converters and transmissions.
  2. Here is a back to back of the GTX3076r(green) vs the GTX3576r(red) on my EVO IX, which is a 2L. The turbine housing used for this data is the ATP 1.06 a/r T4 TS units and these results are on 93octane. You can see the larger turbine wheel resulted in no lose in spool and an increase in hp at the top.

  4. I would recommend that if you are going to think about a GT3076r then you actually should consider running GTX3576r. The GTX compressor wheel has similar inertia to the old wheel, but flows considerably more. From my experience on the EVO there is no loss in spool going to the larger turbine wheel (35r vs 30r) and gains of 30-40hp can be achieved. I am not saying the stage III to4e is a bad option and is definitely more cost effective, but there are better options from a performance standpoint. If possible, I would also try to utilize a twinscroll setup to maximize spool.
  5. 4N71B mods Get the maxima bell housing I used a tranny from a starion because it held more clutches, but perhaps the 300zx unit would as well. biggest problem is getting the proper converter built Ran 11.2@129 with this tranny
  6. The GTX3576r is likely a better choice as opposed to the GTX3076r. Better match of the turbine wheel to the engine and compressor wheel. Please reference my results between these turbochargers. GTX3076r vs GTX3576r
  7. I made approximately 10 of those manifolds and sold them for ~$300. This was more for fun and to support the community. As far as the tapered runner manifolds I only made one of them, but I did also make one with velocity stacks. Velocity Stack Manifold Ebay Intake TwinTurbo Intake RickBower Love For the manifold on ebay, I took a stock manifold and then cut off the runners about 1.5" off the flange. I then overlaid the stock gasket and traced the port size. Using a boring bar I ported the runners to match the stock head gasket. I then took a similar ID aluminum tubing to fabricate new runners and then made the plenum. I think Rick is correct that we leaned out AFR by ~0.6. However, I think the car also picked up 4mph in the 1/4 during the SEZ event. Good Times!
  8. Is that pan one of the ones I made a few years back? Funny, I have about 10K in RB26 parts sitting in my garage that need to be put to use. Perhaps I should sell the NSX and give the Z one more try.

  14. Wow, my own thread! For the past several years I have focused my efforts on work and home, which did not allow me to focus on cars, selling turbos and custom fabrication. I started SpeedShopThagard to highlight my projects and to sell good quality turbocharges to my fellow Z brothers. This was fun and gave me a bit of extra cash to support my hobby and at no point did I rely on this for my family and is the reason my prices were always cheaper. With that said, I believe I have reached a point in my life that I want to once again pursue my passion for cars, which drove me to purchase an Acura NSX. This is good because it forced me to hook up my welders in preperation for my Turbo NSX project, but it is bad in the sense that I no longer own a Zcar. Anyway, I will make it a point to at least post pics of my new project and perhaps i will purchase another Z in the near future.

  20. I don't get much time these days to do anything but work. At present I am in Holland for 2 weeks working. As Tim said the material was Hastoloy X and was chosen for its high temperature performance. At the time it was just an experiment and I had much more free time and complete access to a machine shop. That piece took quite some time to make as the flapper valve, shaft and even the bushings were machined from Hastoloy X. It was also a pain as the tolerances needed to be kept in check so the exhaust wouldn't leak past the bushings. I also think the other design might work, but does not package very well. As far as it flowing better I would doubt there is much difference. Perhaps one day I will have time again to enjoy my passion for turbocharging.
  21. I ran a 60-1 P-trim .58 and the spool was very good at ~3600rpm
  22. Such a nice setup and you skimp on the oil filter. Use the WIX brand or the NAPA Gold. You can also use the K&N, but it is just more expensive. FRAM blows!
  23. It should and for 800hp you should be using an air cleaner rated for ~1200cfm. I am glad to see that you ran such a large air cleaner as such attention to detail for your project will make the difference. Too many folks choke themselves by running an air filter that is not rated for the numbers they are trying to make. BTW, I saw the pics on the other forum and your project is impressive. Good Luck.
