I believe the problem is my LSD. If I grab the halfshafts near the diff side bearings I can get some up and down play-worse on the left side. Never changed diff side bearings-is this difficult?

A little background; My 9/71 is just getting finished it's resto mod. I have only 200 miles since the resto and things are pretty good. The car drives wonderful and the engine runs super. Pretty much everything is new or rebuilt on this car-new tires, wheels, brakes, rebuilt motor. My noise sounds like a tire out of balance or something that rotates is out of balance. The noise starts in about 50-55 and goes away towards 70. This is strictly a rotational noise, with no shimmy or shakes-nothing is felt while driving. The noise sounds like it is coming from the rear tire area, but it is hard to exactly pinpoint. I noticed that while driving in 4th gear at around 60, the noise is very prevelant, but if I shift to 5th gear and maintain the same speed, the noise about goes away to nothing(I have to struggle to hear anything at all). Go back to 4th gear and there it is. I realize that all things should remain constant at speed from the tranny back, but would the gear change invoke a torque change that would change something in the driveshaft angles to cause an out of balance(long shot-I know). It is fustrating to have this car run so good and drive so nice and to be paranoid about this noise. The main driveshaft was balanced when shortened for the btw5 swap. The half shafts had the u joints changed 5k ago. I have an RT mount on my LSD. Any ideas what to check? I had the tires balanced and rotated-no difference.

Wilwood brakes bledding techniques
madkaw replied to J240ZTurbo's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Never touched the bottom bleeders-just the top ones, inside and out -
Well i thought I had tamed the wild beast, but I had to do some additional work. The resonance at 2500 was still really loud, so I ordered some resonators and slapped them in-quite easy infact. Now I getting to the place I want to be. I think the car sounds amazing. The resonance is now doable with just some slight crackling around that magic number 2500. I am still in the break-in period on the engine, so 4000 is about all i'm doing for now. I could cruise around all day at 3200 because it sounds so sweet. 3200 in 5th will be about 75-80mph so highway speeds will be a pleasure. It sounds very beafy at low end and starts to scream as I climb the rpms. I will try to make a recording if I can capture the sound well enough. If I had some exhaust tip resonators I imagine it would be perfect for me, but it will get me to Zcon in style for now.

AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! That's better. Got the magna flows installed and definetly a better sound. I can't say anything about cruise noise levels, but I hope it will be tolerable. The magna flows took the "crackle" sound out to make things more mellow. Let me know what you think. http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/_mad_kaw_/?action=view¤t=MVI_2290.mp4

I believe i have a 73 rear light panel and the access panels are NOT flat. Please send pics of what you have.Color is not an issue sfinnerty@indy.rr.com

I have a hood, hatch, drivers door and of course fiberglass fenders. I'm in indianapolis-don't know how far that is for you. The hood has some dings, but not rusty. The hatch has minor defects and some rust-but no rust bucket. Driver's door is very nice. I'd have to shoot some pics if you are interested.

) I kind of let this thread go by the wayside, but progress has been made. I finally got to hear my exhaust run last week and all I can say is--TOO LOUD guess I should have figured that 12$ glasspacks wouldn't do much, but combine that with headers and it's too much for this old man. The magna flow mufflers have already been ordered and delivered and hopefully will tame the wild beast. I will get out of the highway and have a little fun with the 'race car" before I change the mufflers over Enjoy some pics and sound video http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/_mad_kaw_/z%20exhaust/?action=view¤t=Zcar001.flv

I am missing 3 cables from my heater panel. Top right and lower 2 cables and CLIPS. please e-mail me at sfinnerty@indy.rr.com ---paypal ready I guess all I need is the clips if anyone has them

Did you watch the video, how does your exhaust compare to mine as far as volume? Do you have a header on your car? Do you have any resonators on the pipes?
-
Yeh I'd like to hear it revved up myself but that motor doesn't have 1 hour on it yet. I need to drive it around and break it in. Yes that is just 12$ glasspacks, might as well be just straight pipes.

Sorry I just kind of threw that link on a post with no description because it was so late. I finally have my car running and got around to putting a video together of the exhaust. It sounds cool, but too loud for this old man, so I have my magnaflows on on order(back order actually) and hopefully will have time to installthem in time for Zcon.I haven't had an oppurtunity to drive the car down the road yet,but hope it runs as mean as it sounds

I have just learned recently that true duals coming off of a header with a pair of glasspacks is NOT enough noise suppression. My car is so freakin loud that i am ordering different mufflers ASAP. I would have not guessed that it would have been this loud, but the glasspacks do nothing, so I am basically running dual straight pipes. I am going to fit the biggest magnaflow mufflers i can fit under there(which won't be very big) and hopes that this will be sufficient. If that isn't enough, then i will add resonators upstream. And I thought my crossover pipe would help with the noise-yeh right. The only reason i say magnaflow is that the one I put on my daughter's car-- zxt and it sounds awesome with her 3" exhaust.

As the topic says, I need a oil cooler line(upper line) that rins from the oil filter to the cooler-mine is leaking. Thanks Steve

I started a thread just on this issue of Zeds Findings Floors. I even e-mailed Charlie. The floors are made to deep up front and thus don't line up with the frame rail. So your choices are tacking it higher on the rocker or leaving it alone and not having a perfect level floor. It's a shame because it would be nice to use the outer flange of the floor as your starting point, but it isn't made properly. It is doable, but a lot of work for not so cheap panels. My solution of a not perfect floor should be masked by the carpet and is hardly noticable from the outside.

The Rota RB-R (seeking advice)
madkaw replied to lorenzo's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Lip size is the same on the 8.5 and the 9 and the 9.5. (99% sure of that) 8.5 will fit up front with 235/45 17's, but it is tight on the strut/tire clearance(100% sure of that) The color is strictly subjective By the way-those are 245/45-17 all the way around. Somewhere I posted a thread on the fitment of these 8.5 4+ offset on my car! -

Search in suspension forum ----poor mans toe adjuster- or something like that. There are quite a few ideas there to use, Probbaly something you can fab up if you have a welder. -
Where you should buy your hard lines
madkaw replied to z2go's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I just bought the kit on ebay. The fittings were correct and the lines were very maliable. -
Okay, I'll admit that I like the old format better, but I'm not the type that adjusts quickly or easily-but I LOVE this site and thankyou for keeping it alive-sincerely. Now, why can't I see how to post a classified ad in the parts for sale. My profile still shows me as a supporter(albeit-- it was a long time ago), so what am I missing. I don't get the "start a new topic button" thanks Steve

I tried to PM you , but can't get that to work. Glad to hear you nailed down the issue, I thought it might be that valve. I have one off of my car that looks brand new that I will sell for 25$ plus shipping. You can e-mail me sfinnerty@indy.rr.com if you need it.

What I would suggest would be to disconnect the octopus(see pic) on top of the intake and cap all vacuum lines and see how she runs. Between the AAC and the vacuum port valve behind it you have some large internal vacuum leak possibilities. This would eliminate the whole VCM system and you could truoble shoot from there. Don't forget the EGR too. I don't run any of these items, but I don't have inspections to worry about. The biggest issue that I have is a slight surge at idle and that's seldom.
-
I would take the vcm and all the components out of the system and see how it runs. Soundslike the AAC valve is stuck open so you have an internal vacuum leak. I don't run any of those components and my car idles fine. It would probably idle good when cold, but it sounds like something is stuck open to atmospheric air
