  1. Got any idea of where the noise is coming from? Any videos? That would help.
  2. So your saying a maxima N47 head will get you that compression ratio??
  3. Well I'll probably end up modifying a P79 head as mentioned on the Datsun z garage website. Switching to MS and installing 36lb/hr grand prix GTP injectors my friend is giving me. BTW, how do you know it is over 11.5:1 compression, what did you do??
  4. Ah, good to know. I've thinking about going carbureted.
  5. I'm not following why that ^ was posted.... Please enlighten me.
  6. Post it, definitely interested in this idea.
  7. My great uncle installs hydrogen generators, for better gas mileage but I think it will work for higher performance too. I said something about gas mileage in my car (so much for that idea), and he actually built me one.I know how to install it and everything. Unfortunately, there is no documentation only word of mouth. I could do a write up of it when I am finished though...
  8. The pinging seems to be explosion of the gas at the wrong part of the stroke in the cylinder. So, to properly detonate it at the right time, I'm considering adding a hydrogen generator to it, see how it goes... The hydrogen is exploded along with the gas to mkae everything burn better, thus reducing or eliminating my ping. Also, I think I will stick with the stock fuel injection for now so no cam upgrades at the moment.
  9. hmm sounds good, let me know how it goes. I have some other ideas on how to deal with the pinging. Would cooling be an issue for this type of set up???
  10. I'm getting a block with P79 head with flat top pistons. I have an original block that is sitting in my '79 with an N47 head. According to THIS, putting my N47 on a block with flat tops will give me a high compression. "The N47 came on the '77-80 280Z(X). It has diamond-shaped exhaust ports with emission liners, which some feel reduce flow. Starting in 1977 Nissan heads came with steel valve seats for use with unleaded gas. Like the N42, putting it on a flattop L28 motor puts compression in the mid 10's. I believe this is when Nissan changed from external oil spray bar to internal (oil holes in cam lobes)" My question, will putting my N47 head on a block with flat tops give me "compression in the mid 10's?"
  11. Looks interesting, though I do like the look of the original dash. Do you have much experience with fiberglass??? Because my dash was/is in need of repair. Got any tips??
  12. Like I surmised, it wasn't the timing. It was the cold start injector just staying open. I removed the injector, plugged the line and the hole. Now, the engine idles like new.
  13. When I repairing the dash in my 280zx I had to remove the steering wheel. When I did so, I had to remove the steering wheel and all it's components. When I put the steering wheel back on, I could not remember how the wires were hooked up. Could someone please post of a picture of their 280zx horn button with the cover off..?
  14. When people wave you over, so they can check out your car.
  15. Ha ok, I'll see what I can do about a z31 blower motor thanks a bunch. "I am using the 280ZX (S130) blower fan in my 260Z (S30). Yes, the 280ZX fan turns in the opposite direction of the S30 blower fan, but because it’s a permanent magnet DC motor all you have to do is to reverse the power leads and it will rotate in the opposite direction. " I was thinking that that was possible, but wasn't quite sure. So if that is true, I could use a camaro blower fan as stated here
  16. HERE is a reference to the wiring for your car.
  17. Do you think maybe I could use computer fans mounted in a different spot? Maybe they would work better....
  18. I'm looking for a replacement for my 280zx. I again have to take off my dash to some wiring, fix the dash(because it re-cracked), and replace the watercock for the heater. I was wondering if there is a good replacement I could find for the stock 280zx heater fan. Any upgrade ideas?
  19. It should just switch right over no problem, but I could be wrong.
  20. That sounds like a fuel pump issue to me. Whenever I put a load on my old fuel pump going down the road the engine would stutter and stumble in gear. Whenever I took it out of gear it ran fine.
  21. The timing is right, if it hadn't of been right, then the high idle would have happened immediately after the timing chain rebuild. So, it must be something else. I have not yet confirmed it, but I do believe it is the bcdd as stated above.
  22. Welcome, sorry about the other site, ha. Looks good so far, tons of great resources and plenty of helpful people here. Would be awesome if you were in this area.
