  1. I'm almost ready for that first fit of my LT1/4L60E. JTR's website and manual call the part numbers for the passenger side and drivers side different, he should fix that. The manual (seventh edition) isn't clear at all on how to install these things and the only picture appears to use different mounts altogether page 3-10 & 3-11. And after the post last week about the JTR mounts I am a little confused. But after reading everyone's comments on that post I think I have it right. Is the attached picture the correct order these go together? I'm assuming the set back plate is bolted to the engine using the non-threaded holes, then the spacer and the motor mount are bolted to the set back plate using the threaded holes. Next question before I head out to the grade 8 bolt store is what length bolts should I get? Assuming my configuration is correct I'm thinking 3" for mounting the driver's side motor mount and space to the plate, 2" for the passenger's side and 1 1/4" to mount the set back plates to the engine. The one bolt on the passenger side that goes though the motor mount, spacer, the set back plate and into the block will be 2 3/4". The bolts to mount the motor mounts to the cross member will be 2", these will have nuts too. Everything will have washers and lock washers. Locktite????
  2. Nice and compared to some I've seen not all that horribly expensive.
  3. Kind of what I thought. My long term plan is to build another engine with a bit more bite, I'll change the converter then. Thanks for the cam spec info.
  4. Since my car had a carbed 350 with a truck 5 speed transmission before I started this swap starting out hard and sideways is normal. Thats assuming it moved at all, most time it just sat there and spun. I don't know what the 1st gear ratio of that tranny was but lets just say granny gear! Thanks for the input, we'll leve it stock for now and see how I like it. I don't plan on any drag racing, but I say that now, LOL. With
  5. Did you get the driver's side compressor mount from Vintage? If not what setup are you using. I understand the compressor for a Z28 will it in a Z in its stock Camaro, lower passerger side position. Your engine is a thing of beauty.
  6. LOL, you got that right. I think he may to have to make a coffee table out of that hood!
  7. Cool, pre-bent, that will certainly help.
  8. Thanks, I'm scoping options at this point. I plan on running it stock for now.
  9. I am installing a stock '94 LT1 and 4L60E in my 280Z with a 3.54 rear gear. This car is quite a bit lighter than the Z28 the engine/transmission came out of . I was wondering about the torque converter. Is there a formula or software to choose the correct torque converter considering the car weight, rear gear, HP and use conditions (street, race)? I believe the stock Z28 torque converter is a 1200, not positive about that, don't have the shop manual here. On several Z28 message boards they talk about anywhere from 2500 - 3500 but that's in a Z28.
  10. Saw this on EBay today, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160069843715&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RUPX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=160084496098&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=UpSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget
  11. Congrats, that first ride is always the best. The image I have in my head of you sitting on the floor peering over the dash is just too funny. Your neighbors probably are just shaking their heads in disbelief!
  12. Precisely why I'm going with 3/8" brake line for my fuel. Bit of a PITA to bend and adapt to the fuel rail but pretty cheap to buy and in the long run safer than braided hose or as my old setup had, just rubber.
  13. According to Black Dragon they are different. http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0010.asp
  14. I've sold some of the Z28 already. Some on EBay, some on craigslist, some on fbody.com. Problem with the big stuff is shipping. Ls1.com, CamaroZ28.com and several other boards require 50 posts to sell anything.
  15. I'm not that far along yet. But I was told that a T56 won't fit with the stock mount flanges and the 4L60E ia bigger so there's no way. Cutting those out is my next project. I also have that paddle shifter in my long term plans. But that's going to have to wait, AC is first.
  16. Yeah, we're not as smart as you are I guess. Must be nice to never make a mistake!
  17. Sounds like the three of us are at about the same place. Good luck with the swap, sounds like its going to be nice.
  18. I got a little rushed on the LT1 conversion since I sold the SBC and tranny that was in my Z. Two weeks ago we pulled the engine and tranny and carted it off to its new owner. He's going to install it in a 260Z, don't think he posts here but has visited. Last weekend I tore my Z apart. I am using the Camaro fuel tank, gauges and complete wiring harness, yeah gutsy I know. So everything came out of the Z including the dash. Stepping back and looking at the car with only the suspension left is kind of frightening. My dream of being back on the road for SEZ8 is totally unrealistic at this point. But this is the way I want to do the car so it will take a bit longer than I had originally planned. My JTR mounts and headers have arrived and the radiator and mounts are on the way. I've spent a good deal of time fighting through the Camaro wiring harness, eliminating what I don't need, which is a lot. I got my Camaro computer reprogrammed as a favor and some parts. This week I hope to get the engine bay and tranny tunnel ready for the first trial fitting, keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have to beat on the 280Z tunnel too much to accept the 4L60E. I will post some more picts later, don't have them uploaded yet. Anyone need a Z28 front and rear suspension, LOL?
  19. Try this one. http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html BTW, on DIY yesterday they were talking about paint matching. They siad go to any auto paint retailer and ask them to scan your car. They'll take scans from several places and the computer will average the scans to come up with a near perfect match, if that's your goal.
  20. Yeah they don't warn you about that in the shop manual.
  21. LOL, damn near, one strut will not hold up the hatch. Thank goodness I had a long 2x4 handy!
  22. Awesome, looks like you might need new tires too, LOL.
  23. Very nice, clean and functional.
  24. Ok I got the damn thing out. Once you see the nut that holds on the strut its pretty easy, at least on the driver's side. The passenger side has a plug you have to pop out to get a socket in there.
