  1. You're talking concave pieces of metal to fill the holes in the opposite direction?
  2. So here's the carnage. I may have gotten a bit over-zealous, but I think I left enough metal to ensure integrity. I misinterpreted my markings on the piece and accidentally cut the wrong area on the passenger side, so that's why so much is missing on that side.
  3. I think I'll grind the crossmember, I still have a decent amount of work left to do on the car before mocking engine/tranny fitment and I want to be able to put wheels on it to roll around. If it really becomes an issue, I'm sure I can find a used crossmember on the cheap.
  4. My bad, I was just going by the number stamped into the mount. I am pretty sure 3-1108 is what I bought, though all I can find in my records is a PayPal payment for 33.16 to ES (over a year ago), which sounds about right.
  5. Cool, thanks. Any idea how dsommer did it, as evidenced in the 2nd picture I posted stolen from this thread (56k beware!): http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/63391-resurection-now-becoming-1tufzg-z/page__view__findpost__p__809921 Also, what is the best way to cut it to retain structural integrity?
  6. I have a GM 3201 tranny mount bolted to the top. I think you are referring to the stock configuration and not the RT config?
  7. Correct, I circled the first offending area where the bolt hit it in the 4th picture. There was still a good 1/4" left to tighten on the lower mount when it hit.
  8. So I finally got around to installing my rear suspension and found that the bolts holding my diff up are interfering with my lower diff crossmember now. I was wondering if it is necessary to notch the lower diff mount as is illustrated here: And, if so, I was wondering how some people manage to sandwich the stock diff mount underneath and not notch the crossmember, as is illustrated here: For illustrative purposes, I have attached pictures of my setup and the trouble areas. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. You can actually already do this: As a bonus, it is a 6 speed, re-sells quite well, and was built to be a sports car (ie it isn't as tall as it is wide and/or long).
  10. So, a few days ago I got to test drive a rather fun car. I brought along a car mount for my own reviewing pleasure and I thought I'd share a cutdown of it with you all. Obviously, everything you see was performed by a professional driver on a closed course. Oh, and a gratuitous picture of the car:
  11. Crap, so I just rebuilt the OBX and had the bearings rebuilt and bolted back together by a diff shop - but I checked the pic's of my teardown and the gears are in the wrong direction. How bad would it be to run with the gears turning the wrong way? I actually tried to remove the carrier since the shop put it in, but could not get it out (I forgot to put the circlips in, but I managed to get them in from the sides).
  12. I forget how I found them last time, but there are several kits out there. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is this one: http://www.jcwhitney.com/vehicle-keyless-push-button-start-and-security/p2021117.jcwx?skuId=552642&TID=8014524F&utm_source=Google_Product_Search&utm_medium=CSE&utm_content=product-540166&zmam=15972153&zmas=21&zmac=141&zmap=540166 Looking up RFID technology on google, this appears to be another option (not sure why it is so cheap though): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220459427473&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=M*S%3F&GUID=92323d361180a0bae154ff44fffbbc6f&itemid=220459427473&ff4=263602_263622#ht_1522wt_964
  13. An article posted when this was first revealed. Apparently this got the full Gallardo drivetrain (read: "new Lamborghini Gallardo" - I hope they're talking bodystyle and not age of donor car). It also got the interior (pretty cool!). Bringing about another point, it is one of the few (if not only) 4WD mustangs now - talk amongst yourselves.
  14. I seem to remember this pick-a-part having several S30's when I was there many months ago: http://maps.google.com/places/us/los-angeles/blinn-ave/1232/-pick-your-part?hl=en&gl=us This is a good sized pick-a-part also, but it didn't have any Z's the one time I went: http://maps.google.com/places/us/los-angeles/pendleton-st/11201/-pick-your-part?hl=en&gl=us
  15. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/1537434759.html Don't know that I've seen a blow through 2bbl weber turbo setup on a z-car before. From a brief google search, it seems that bug guys like to do it, and there is a kit for Corvair which modifies the carb quite a bit to get the jetting to work with boost. Cheap car though... (sorry if this has been posted already)
  16. Looks like a newer Mitsubishi Eclipse to me.
  17. Stock, 2003. Just bought it for next to nothing (relative to what they went for new). The torque on it is insane from about 2 grand up, but you can really feel the weight of the car going through the corners. Still, quite fun to commit late night speed infractions in, if one were so inclined.
  18. I'm quite happy with my Mercedes, though it could stand to lose about 1500 lb's and the mud/snow tires the p/o paid way too much money for.
  19. S30's look small next to pretty much everything... Oh, and check out the parking job too.
  20. The big deal is that Skylines were never imported to the US by Nissan, and as such they did not undergo crash or smog certification for the US. There was a company that was legally registering Skylines in the US, but they had to provide a Skyline for crash testing and then perform modifications to the car in order to make it legal for street driving.
  21. It seems they are going to increase reflectivity towards non-visible light.
  22. streetfire.net used to be a good place to watch the entire episodes, as their limit seems to be 60 minutes as opposed to youtube's 10 minutes. But, I just checked the guy who used to host all the episodes including the new ones a few days after they air and his have been removed.
  23. Unfortunately, I think the market would be too small for something like that. Besides, most of the time would be spent on tech support calls ("Hello, which one is the fuel line?") Just take a look at the freeway and come up with a ratio for pre-1996 cars to post-1995 cars.
  24. Unfortunately, I am not that good. Lacking mechanical knowledge, I purchased the car done and due to neglect and electrical demons it has since stopped running. I think I am actually going to pull the drivetrain and throw it in my 240Z so I don't have to worry about work out the electrical demons and avoid smog at the same time. Anyways, while it was running this was a very fun car to drive. The output of the engine is just about right for this size car without being too much. If it weren't for smog and a bad donor chassis, I would definitely keep it 280ZX.
  25. I remember reading recently that the only difference between the HO and the standard 5.0 was just the cam, intake, and injectors. There may have been something else, but I think it was just the top-end of the engine that was different. And, speaking as the only person I know of with a 5.0 swapped S130 that runs (ran, at least), I'd say do it. The 5.0 is a good engine, and the S130 is a good chassis - so why not?
