  1. Well after we went to the strip last week, I decided to do the routine maintenace on the engine in prep for SEZ. We burned a couple of plugs not to long ago, then the next to the last time we burned another plug. Did a compresion check and cylinder #8 was down, way down. The plugs we burned were cyl #5 once and cly #8 twice. Pulled the engine and dismantled, found a very burned piston on #8 and some slight damage to #5. When we burned the plugs we did a nos shot, too lean, plus the hot weather made it more lean. Dropped off the block to the machine shop to have it pressure tested, cly #8 we were concerned with. Got word today the block is okay. Ordered new pistons, rings, main and rod bearings. The heads were checked as well and had a bad leak on the back valves ( this was number 8 cyl.) also found some warpage on one head the other side where two of the cyl. were not sealing good. Glad I checked or we would of had a big boom at sez. Took the nos system apart and found the problem, the back fuel nozzle for #8 cyl. was cracked, leaking fuel I imagine. It broke off, had to drill out and retap. Have to order a new nozzle come Monday. Anyway hopefully all the stuff will be in and the machine shop through by next Tues. or Wed. then put all back together for SEZ. The crunch is on. Took the blower apart and all looks good. No problems..... The bearings ( rod and mains ) looked new. We run royal purple and it shows (good oil). Here are some pics. Wish us luck and hopefully no more problems will arrise. See ya at SEZ... John
  2. We go that way I think, We hit I-20 heading toward Ga. I will check with my brother. We are only about an hour from Augusta Ga. John
  3. Our Z-car is a 280z, I put the 240Z bumper and grill on it. It was not to hard at all. I did it myself, would of been easier if I has someone to help hold it in place. John
  4. The Mustang went a 6.32 so you were very close. This was a HP run for us. Jerry.
  5. No we use a progrssive NOS system, you can turn it to like 20% of a 175 shot then bring it to 100% at what ever time intervil you want. We have always just set it to 20% and told it to turn on a 100% at 10 seconds. Thus we are over the run in 9 seconds. The supercharger is only 2% overdriven for now. Probably will be testing 8% overdriven at SEZ.
  6. Just got off the phone with BDS, probably the best bet is to do an intercooler that mounts under the blower, it is water cooled and is used mainly in Marine use. So I am going to start saving my money and go that route, if I decide to do Alky then the intercooler still would help. If we get blistered this year at SEZ, then we will have to come to the March event when the weater is cooler and take them on....... We always have the NOS we can turn up, right now just using 20% so we have room to go up. We will experiment at SEZ and see what we can do. Thanks for the help Dr-hunt.....
  7. Thanks for the info. Maybe next year I will make the switch.
  8. As you know we run a 6-71 bds blower on our 355 cu. chevy. We run 116 octane fuel. Has anyone heard of or have tried mixing alcohol with racing gas? I was thinkig if we mixed alcohol with the racing gas, we would get a cooler burn, thus more power. Would like to switch to alcohol one day. Will pursue this after SEZ. But until them thought I would ask. John
  9. Installed a alternator on our Z-car, Alternator came from a 300zx, 1986 model I think. searched this site and wired it up. Used 8 gauge wire from alt. output to fuse panel where it ties into the battery. Used the brown wire to lamp, black wire to ground. Went to the dragstrip last night. Fully charged battery. Tested it, read 12.97 volts. Cranked up car, read 13.7 volts idleing, reved it up some and read 14.7 volts. Seems like the alt. is working right. Well normally at the drag strip, we can go about three rounds before needing to charge the battery. Last night, we had to charge after the 1st pass. Could the alt., be discharging or shorting out the battery? I would think with it working we could go longer with out charging the battery. I know we draw alot of juice, electric water pump, fan, fuel pump, msd ignition, running lights, brake lights. Anyway cut the alt, belt and disconnected it. Any help please.......... John
  10. I here ya, I just hope the weather is decent and cool, thus we will give ya a good run. If not I guess we will have to turn up the NOS.......
  11. Posted a run between us and a mustang. Mustang using two step and transbrake. Shows us spanking his @zz. This is for rip and his zebra Z, crystall ball looking into the future of the match race at SEZ#7. Go to www.jnjdragracing.com/0819/rip.mpg NOTE: it is a 9 meg video file and will download, be patient. All in fun, just picking Rip.......... John
  12. Talked to M/T. They said lowest tire pressure to run was 12psi. Did that, plus they said a lite burnout, did that. Also it was the first run, and it was hot. Super Charger not leaving as hard. Actually we ran faster at the other track, so it was not track conditions, it was weather condtions.
  13. Well we made one pass with the M/T DR's. Did not spin this time, you could feel them quiver bad but they held. 60ft. was a 1.52, 1/8 mile was a 6.62. It was hot as hell and that really affected the super charger. Super chargers like cold air, not hot. Put the new slicks back on, 60 ft. was 1.42. Not giving out the time with slicks due to our match race with Rip at SEZ, want to keep some things a secret. I hope it is going to be cooler next month. I am going to under drive the Super Charger and test it at SEZ, I think we are making a lot of heat and with it being hot is bad. I plan on posting a video tomorrow showing us racing a Mustang. This is a glance of the outcome for the future for Rip and his Zebra Z at SEZ. Just doing some smack talking, all in fun Rip......... John
  14. We are going to Carolina Dragway tonight in Jackson S.C.to test the M/T Drag Radials again and the new Slicks tonight. Gates open at 5:00pm - 11:00pm. They have a Pro-Mod race so the track should be prepared pretty good. Testing 60ft. times and 1/8 mile. Might shoot down the 1/4 if all goes well. Wish us luck, hopefully all will go good and this will be the last time to the track before SEZ7. I will post result later on tomorrow, for those who are intrested. John
  15. You can check out our website www.jnjdragracing.com. I did not think the Z frame would hold, but my brother Jerry proved me wrong. He did finally upgrade to cv joints and we are running a r200 cv joint upgrade / adapters bought from Modern Motor Sports. John
  16. My brother Jerry had a set made / machined when he was running the 300zx 15" rims on the Z-car 240, when we first bought the slicks. I think they are about 1 inch thick. They are machined in such a way the go on the drum brake and the ridge sits in them, kinda like help locking it. We used long studs 7/16 1/2 pitch racing studs to hold everthing tight. They worked for us. He is not using them any more. Pm him and see what he would want for them. I can not remember what he paid for them. A local machinist made them for him. John
  17. Warren is interested in them, my brother Jerry will be taking some mesurements for him. I am just not too sure if the 300zx rims with the offset how they will fit on Warrens 280zx. I guess we will find out. John
  18. My brother Jerry is planning on keeping the new weld rims drag lights with the M/T DR's on them. He decided not to sell them. We will bring them to SEZ#7, and will give them a try I guess, just not while we are racing Rip and his Z-car. I am sure if some one wanted to try them my brother would be okay with that. You will just need lug nuts that will fit these Weld Wheels with your application. We use I think 7/16 1/2 pitch extra long racing lug studs, plus we only have the one set of lugs that we will be using. Again the rims are 7 inches wide 4.5 inch back spacing. We use a 1/4 inch spacer with also just to get a little more clearance. The M/T DR's are P275x60x15. John John
  19. My brother Jerry bought a new pair of slicks, we have the old slicks 28x9x15, still have a lot of use on them. Just not for us. Thought about bringing them to SEZ#7 mounted and balanced with tubes and screwed to 300zx rims 4 lug ( 85 model rims will not work on 240z with out spacers I believe 4.75 rear spacing ) . Wanted to take a poll to see how many people would like to use them / try them or purchase them. Can use at SEZ#7 and if you like buy them for a reasonable amount of $125.00. ( only for SEZ#7 we will bring and to be picked up ). Can not be shipped for this price. Or we could try to find 5 lug rims if the poll suggest that. Just do not want them to go to waste if some one could use them and plus help off set the expense of the new slicks with mounting and balancing cost of about $340.00. Just let me know if anyone is interested, if not then we will still bring them but they will be mounted on the 300zx rims. ( Free for anyone to use and try ) Would mount them on rims that would work for 240Z, just do not have any 15†rims, just 14â€. They would need to be 4.5 rear back spacing. I think or pretty sure the 300zx rims are 4.75 back spacing thus requiring at least a ½ spacer. John
  20. Mike, I wanted to try them because I have a friend (Chris Tuten) that runs the NMRA in the drag radial class. He has to run the BFG Radials, but he tried a set of the M/T 325/50/15 and he went a 5.21 in the 1/8th with a 1.31 60' . I was hoping to run in the low 9's or maybe the 8's in the 1/4 on street tires. I talked with M/T today and they gave me some information to try. Chris told me the drag radial were more stable at high speeds. The track we went to this weekend had been hit by lighting the first part of the week, so we did not get 60' or mph every pass which was not good, when you are trying new combinations. We will try and go to a good track this weekend. I will have my trusty slicks with me . Jerry
  21. Well it was something my brother Jerry wanted to try. I guess he wanted to see how fast he could go on 275/60/15 ET Drag Radials. He still has not giving up on them yet. He is going to try them again, but at a better track. I will keep yall posted on his success or not. Oh I remember now, he planning on putting it back on the street, street legal and wanted to find out what or if they would work. Probably will be driveing it around at SEZ#7 on Saturday some to go out to dinner in etc. John
  22. Yes they are 4 lug. I think they were made for a mustang but the other pattern fis the 4 lug datsun. I will let my brother Jerry know you are interested in them. John
