  1. I bought one from ebay, user name was dirttrackthunder. It is a small balancer external balanced. I ran it for about 2 years with no problems. I was turning about 6500 rpms in my 412 cu. Check them out. John
  2. Yeah he sold the car for 12,000.00 and the Pace trailer for 3,000.00. The valve covers are diffirent, other than that it looks the same. We really never ran 1/4 mile only 1/8. On motor it ran a best of 6.30 and on the fogger with small jets it ran a 5.70. 1/4 mile times would of been around 9.30's or so. It is a nice car, i block sanded it smooth as glass before painting it. John
  3. Hey Guy's, This is the Z-car I built. If you go to my web page you will see it in some photo's. My friend Steve and I were in buissiness together and this is the car we built. Had a fallen out and he sold the car. I guess this is the guy who bought it along with the Pace trailer it used to be ours. It is a good car. We even have some video footage where we out ran him a couple of times. I built this engine, did the body work, paint etc. Installed all the electronics too. Steve sold it to this guy with the trailer for 15,000.00 about a year ago. Just for your info. John
  4. Go with the 421 CU. There is no substitute for Cubic Inches. Unless you are talking about Boost. I know you said only a 383 or 421 CU. But if you are building it I would go with a 434 CU. Just my input...... John
  5. Thanks, I will try it again once I figure out my performance problem. John
  6. Thanks, As soon as I get the Engine running right, I will pursue the Alternator again. John
  7. Did compression check last night, all was good. Tonight doing leak down test, We are kinda thinking the MSD unit is not up to par. Tonight will tell the tale, if all checks out, then I will replace the MSD box and go try it out at a local track to see. If you notice the video Deja posted, it was balls to the wall in the 1st burnout and then it petered out? Time will tell..... Iwill keep you posted. John
  8. Similar condtion as mine, when we ran at sez7 the engine was strugling to turn rpms under a load, water box heating up the tires it was awsome. We normally shift at 7500 rpm, but you could actually watch the tach move up. Normally it turns up so quick you have to pay attention to driving not the tack. I plan on doing a compression check 1st, then a leak down test 2nd. I think our problem is a warped deck or maybe valves not seating or head gasket leaking just enought to affect compresion, etc. No water in oil, but under high rpm we were blowing water out of the radiator, we noticed this on the dyno. When your engine gets hot metal expands, so you could have a vaccum leak, or something not sealing well. I will let you know what we find. In your case I would double check valve adjustment, intake gasket ( seating ) maybe even a compression check would not hurt. John
  9. The way we fixed ours was to pop it out, take a punch and hammer and tap around the part we poped up, this will shrink the metal to be worked. Contiue doing this until it is rigid again. Then of course we air filed it, not getting it to hot. Then applied bondo with fiberglass resin so we could work a lot at a time and make it smooth as silk, then worked this with the air file and sanding block. The key thing is not to get it hot, this will cause it to warp. Then prime and paint it. It tooks us about three nights work to finish the job. John
  10. Yes you can. But remember if you take it down to much you are stuck. Then you will have run a thicker head gasket. You can also have your deck cut. I had my 70cc heads cut down to 64 cc. Some of the turbo heads back in the early years were 58cc. Hope this helps. John
  11. You can call MSD to make sure, but usually they will connect to diffirent boxes and coils. I run the MSD pro billet dizzy. John
  12. SBC 400 is a good motor, we have a couple. Actually the 2 bolt main is stronger than the 4 bolt, and if you have a 2 bolt main then you can always add splayed caps. It sounds like a good deal if it is the oringinal 400, then when and if you rebuild it, it would probably need to be bored 30 over - thus a 406. I turn mine to 6500 rpm with no issues, I have stock rods and crank in that engine. Of course I do have good heads, roller cam, etc. Around here generly a good 400 block will run you about $400.00, this is used, no machine work etc. They are getting to be a rare breed. John
  13. Scottie, is this your new secret weapon? It looks GREAT! Look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Jerry:2thumbs:
  14. David if you lived a little bit closer to S.C. I would let you borrow mine, I tell you go to some welding shops and ask what they preferr. That is what I did, saw the one I bought in action. It is a heavy duty monster, came with foot control, torch, and supplies. I only had to get the tank. Maybe they would let you try out the tig and get a feel for it also. See some in action and make a decison. I almost bought a tig from cyberweld. But I lucked up on this one. John
  15. Something similar has happend to me and it was a worn out dizzy. Remove cap and lift the the rotor up and down and all around, see if there is any paly in the dizzy. I would also check the advance, springs, weights etc. Do not know what you have just some ideas. Also have seen a bad ground do symptons similar. John
  16. Not bad larry, It is probably like mine, all from the get go. At wot it is instant power, no lag. My setup 6-71, the harder I turn it the more power I make. Thanks for the info.
  17. Larry what were the dyno numbers, just interested. John
  18. I have used Comp Cams, and was very satisfied with them. They have reground the cam I am running now. John
  19. M/T ET Slick 28x9x15, Weld rim 4.5 back spacing, also we use a 1/4 inch spacer. Note the wheel well was opened up some closer to the front area towards the door. John
  20. I will let you know after SEZ#7, but we are using a R200 rear end with 3.54 gear ratio, so far our top speed has been 154 mph in the 1/4 at 9.21 seconds. John
  21. You have that right it is going to be fun, the weather bothers me some but hopefully it will be gone by Saturday and especially Sunday. John
  22. Well you are going to miss out on some fun, but as long as you are coming. Look forward to meeting you guys.. John John
