Yep thats right, we have been called upon for a match race. We have a 355 cu sbc, blown 6-71 in a Zcar, stock suspension. A guy named Rip has a 260Z with a fulton 468 cu sbc, 18 degree dart heads and a fogger nos along with a plate system. Wants a match race with us. Should be interesting, I know we better run our best. Come and see it, we will be running at SEZ #7 Shootout September 10th at Silverdollar Raceway. It should be a good show, might have to change some blower pulley's or spray more than 20% nos to be able to out run him, we will have to see......... We are pretty evenly matched, he is running a turbo 350, us a glide, same gear ratio's, same suspension setup with cv joints, I guess we weigh the same. He is just pushing alot more cubic inches..... He said it dynoed at the flywheel of 1040HP, no NOS... Should be awsome to see, so come out to SEZ and joins us and welcome our new friend Rip and his Z-Car. I was told it was painted with a paint scheme like a zebra? I think Zebra stripes...... Anyway wanted to let everyone no about it, come out and cheer us on, we will need it.... John

Timing question, just checking my numbers
jnjdragracing replied to deja's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Deja, On my Monte Carlo, which is mainly a street car. I run a msd dist with locked out advance, you can take the hei dist. and weld it up so you have no advance. Set your timing to what is best I would start at 36 and work up to 40. You will have to have a seperate starter button with a seperate ingnition. Turn the engine over and then throw the ingnition to it. Of course you will have to listen for spark rattle depending on how much compression you are running verses octane level. To make sur the dist advance is locked with a timing light check your timing and turn the roms up and make sure it does not advance on you, if so then the advance is not locked. It should run strong form idle to high rpm. John -

Hey Curtis, We went from a 3.90 to a 3.55 and picked up a better 60ft. We left the rear sway bar in, was not hurting anything. Since you have it down now, try the 3.55 and see what it will do. It might surprize you. John -

No problem Curtis and congrats on your time and 60 ft. Glad we could help. John -
If your engine will be stock I would use the mechanical fuel pump, no need to mess with the electric one. John

What to do w/water pump holes? Help please!
jnjdragracing replied to mason4300's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Use helicoils, you can purchase them from most automotive shops. You will drill the hole out and tap it, then with the helicoil tool you will install the helicoil, use thread sealer (red). This is the best way to fix striped holes. Works in aluminium and steel. They come in various sizes etc.... John -
New PIctures of MY car.. wheels, bumpers etc... :)
jnjdragracing replied to 240hoke's topic in Body Kits & Paint
All I can say is AWESOME , the car looks Great, were did you get the bumpers from? I know you made a commit about MSA. Where is that located at. I want to order some bumpers for our cars. Thanks Jerry. -
Just finished installing the extra pieces to complete the 10-point roll cage, added window net and my brother bought some ET Drag Radials. We already had an 8 point roll cage, but added to it to make a 10 point cage. We bought the extra pieces of Jegs for a 73 240Z and they worked out great. Had to trim to fit and notch, no big problems, added roll bar gussets to joints for added strength. My brother ordered Friday new Weld rims to mount the ET Drag Radials to. So at SEZ we will give them a try and will also have the slicks for backup. Attached are some pics. John

Am I under carbed for this cam
jnjdragracing replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I think the dissy is advancing to much at 3000 rpm. Can you lock it out and set the total timing to around 36 to 40 total degrees. Just my thought.... -
Want to see more, I like it..... John

How far does the drive shaft yoke go into the trans? If it goes into the trans but you have almost an inch out from the seal to the drive shaft then you should be okay. John

I guess these are stock valve train items, like rocker arms. If so I would let the engine idle and loosen each rocker up until it starts to click. Do all of them that way. Let it idle awhile about 10 minutes if possible, this will allow the lifters to pump up, Then tighten them one by one until the clicking stops. Once you go through all of the rockers that way then tighen to 1/4 turn. You will be able to tell because the engine should slow down some. If you continue to hear clicking make sure you installed the rocker arm assembly correctly. You should have a cup that goes in the rocker, tappered side down, this is if you are using stock rocker arms. How is your oil pressure ? I assume okay, idling around 30psi? If it was mine I would of bought anti-pumpup lifters, they do not need to be pumped up. Hope this helps...... John

I would mig it, come on if you burn a hole in it, mig it up. This is a lot better than putting a bandaid on it. The worse that will happen, is you burn a big hole and will need to replace the oil pan. You can't go through life scared. John

Make sure you are pulling enough vacumn at idle to keep the power valve closed, if it is an 8.5 you need at least 9.5 vacumn. Also check the power valve to make sure it is not busted. This would cause rich condition if it is broke. John

The only time I go to Advance Auto parts is when my other store I go to is not open. I use Car Quest Auto Parts. My brother is the rep. for Filters. They have never done me wrong. I do not know if you have them but they are a dependable / know what they are doing parts store. Give them a try, you will not be disapointed. John -
I got a 240 air dam for $33.00, but....
jnjdragracing replied to big-phil's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I hate to hear that big-phil, maybe he brought it to a shipping company and they folded and shipped it. I would email paypal, they have helped me in the past. I would email the seller 1st to see waht he has to say, then if he will not do anything, email paypal and explain the situation. John -
All I can say is Ahhhh, unbelievable that is very impressive for a 4 cyclinder. You beat our times for now. What is the temp in Australia ? How much boost you running ? All I can say I am glad you are over there in Australia.... John

I just read jmortensen comments and have not thought of it that way. We would be Mighty proud to display a HybridZ vinyl sticker etc. on our car. We would be willing to help another HybridZ team member or members with a car they already have Like Zgad, etc. Who go around and race at events. The only problem with our car is we are basically a Grudge car / No time car. We are no where close to getting NHRA certified for a big event, IHRA no problem. With the present Zcar we have. In the future I do have a tube chassis frame, that I am planning on putting a 240Z body on. It does ahave a NHRA rollcage, it will have a Dana 60 rear eand with ladder bars, full 12 point cage, etc. Plan on streaching the wheelbase and setting back the engine some. PS: If anyone has a HybridZ Vinyl decal for the back window, or side glass ( x2 ). Please let us know, we would be glad purchase it and will be honored to put it on the car. Just an idea. John

I am with the HybridZ team what ever they decide. When I first saw their was pinks build I was excited. I do not really care too much for pinks, like it has been said before it is the sandbagging and negotiations that when the race not necessarily the car or driver. But I do watch it when it comes on most of the time. I did contribute to the pinks build as far as a donation of money and I hate the build turned out the way it did. I was excited about seeing the car on pinks and I think the guys represented us well as could be expected. So if the hybridZ team or group decides to build a car I am in, weather parts or money, labor or time. I do think it should be a drag car, and it would be nice to get back on Pinks and hopefully show them what it is all about. John

I agree, only have to shift once. John

I like the scoop also, Hmmm I wonder why.......Good luck on your goal.

The turbo 400 is more heavy duty than the turbo 350. Also if my memory serves me right the turbo 350 and the powerglide are the same length, the turbo 400 is longer. I also think the input of the drive shaft is different for the 400. I personaly like the two speed powerglide for racing. If it is for the dtreet then I would invest in a 200r4 or 700r4 to get the overdrive, but they will need to be buily up some in any horsepower / torque was put to them. John PS: you can search the site for this information as well.
