LT1 oil pan choices for 280Z and JTR
gvincent replied to gvincent's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I just emailed the "Motorheads" at Hamburgers to see if they make and LT1 pan. Thanks, Greg -
I searched and found where some people are using the Canton oil pan but in 280ZX's and plenty of discussions on other motors. My oil pan bottom is crushed and I was going to replace it but I figured why not go for more capacity. I mean more is better right? But before i put down $250 for a Canton LT1 oil pand and a new pickup tube I thought I would check here about clearance issues anyone has, I am using the JTR setback and the Sanderson headers and a T56 will I have exhaust clearance problems with the Canton pan? Are there any other pans I should also consider? Thanks, Greg

Thanks Dan, I think I understand now, the pictures to posts aren't deleted they are no longer linked that is why you can't see them anyore? I have more searching to do especially on LT1 wiring and custom Pulley mounts so when I come across a missing picture I should either contact the individual to see if he still has the pics or is even still an active member or start a thread to see if anyone has the old pictures or any new ones? I don't want to create any unnecessary new duplicate posts if I don't have to, searching is hard enough weeding through posts that I don't want to add to the weeding for the next guy to search after me. Thanks, Greg

YEAH! it worked! Here is a sample/test Pic of the LT1 removed from the donor car. Now what about the threads with pictures removed because of the Limit for non contributing members? Is there a better solution? could the Admins deem a picture has suffiecnt value to a thread that it doesn't count against their quota? That way when we search and find a thread the pics aren't all gone?? I would really like to work on this, Should I bring this up as a separate thread and maybe we can ask opinions or suggestions for a solution that is good for the site? As an Administrator can you get a general consensus from all the Admins on how this problem should be addressed, unless they don't see it as a problem???? Thanks Dan for finding the problem. Greg

I tried attaching picture to this thread we are currently on twice tonight as the test. All different pictures as a test as well. The first time I was trying to attach pictures to this thread four days ago: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117407 it was post #8 no link, upload straight from my hard drive. Thanks Dan, Greg

Hi Dan, Nope, no go, I get the same error message. I even double checked to make sure I reduced the picture to 96K and that it is a .jpg file and not a .jpeg file. I am using a Mac on OS 10.4.9 the most current version. My browser is Safari V2.0.4 What about the disappearing pictures in the threads and this quota thing? I would hate to have to post a brand new thread with the same question of the old thread asking all the members who contributed to the thread to repost their pictures for a few days at least so I can print the thread out with the pictures before they have to remove their pictures again. Is this a question I should be directing towards the Administrators? Thanks, Greg

Hi Dan, On the Manage Attachments window, the "upload errors" says: "Exceeds your quota by 2.16 MB" "Sum of all attachments owned by gvincent: 3.02 MB" it is showing a big red bar completely filled. But what about all the threads with pictures that members have had to remove in order to stay within their "Attachment Quota"??? Isn't the whole idea of exchanging information with other members on this website by answering questions and posting pictures on these threads the whole purpose? By having to remove the pictures from a thread defeats the purpose of the whole thread especially if they are refering to a specific picture that is no longer there? I don't understand the reasoning behind the Attachment Quota limits. If a non donating member that has contributed information and pictures to threads for everyones benefit on this site but has to remove pictures in order to upload any more pictures isn't this harming everyone that needed the information from his pictures? Please explain how removing pictures from threads that people have spent considerable time searching for helps this site. I don't want to sound nasty or negative as I do love this site and think it is the best site on the web and I could not even attempt to build my HybridZ without the unselfish and very knowledgeable members who take the time to contribute their expertise to this site. Am I the only one who has noticed or complained about the disappearing pictures from threads before? I always thought it was because of expired links to pictures outside of the site but this is not the case in all instances. Members having to delete pictures because of the Quota seems to be the real culprit it seems. Thanks, Greg

Nobody seems to want to answer my previous post but I think this is important. So does your donation does time out? I guess that members have to delete pictures they have previously attached to posts in order to attach to new posts? doesn't this take away much needed info from the thread if the pictures are deleted? Why? It is frustrating to do a search on a topic and find all the pictures gone. I am doing an LT1/T56 into a 1976 280 Z and a lot of the LT1 threads are a few years old and the pictures would of really helped me understand what the thread was about and I wouldn't have to post a new thread asking the same question again to try and get the pictures reloaded again. Something is wrong here, is it a space problem? I will donate more money if we need to buy more hard disk space. Anyone care to try and answer this? Thanks, Greg

Did my donation run out as well? I just tried to upload the usual 96K sized picture attachments and could not. It says I am over my Limit, Has it been a year since I donated already? Now I am beginning to understand why when I view posts so many pictures do not show up but show as ?? question marks as the ownwer of the pics had to delete them to free up some space?? Too bad because I definately could of used some of those pictures, it is tough when search a subject or someone refers you to a thread only to find the thread no longer has pictures associated with the text!!! Do I have to ask the original poster to put his pictures back??? I seem to have no problem with posting to my gallery though. Thanks, Greg

GVincent 280Z SBC HybridZ project
gvincent replied to gvincent's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Well I had a good father's day weekend and got the chance to really spend some time on the project. For the past month I have been slowly prepping the donor car by removing parts and tagging all wire connections. I did not cut a single wire and have removed a lot of parts. Yesterday I started at 10:am and dropped the driveshaft, disconnected the brake lines and removed the ABS module. I then jacked up the rear of the car and put a pair of my son's mud truck tires and wheels under the rear wheels of the donor car. I then lowered the front down with no whells on to blocks just low enough to get a couple of dollies under the trans and motor. I then removed the trans mount and the strut bolts and engine cradle bolts. I then used my engine hoist to lift the front body of the car high enough to clear the engine and propped some tree logs and blocks under the car to hold it up. I then pulled the engine and trans on dollies with a come-along wire ratchet. Once clear I hoisted the engine and trans, loaded it onto the back of my truck and drove it to the garage where I put it back on the hoist and sprayed it with degreaser and hosed it down. This took this old geezer a total of 8 hours with no help to do. So those people who say you can drop one of these engine and trans in 4 hours had to have had help and be a lot younger! Check my gallery for the pictures, for some reason I guess I am over quota for posting pictures?????? Thanks, greg Greg -
