  1. I wouldn't even try a head swap in 4 days if I didn't have another car to drive. I know for a fact it's possible to do in 1 day. I know for a fact that a single "little problem" can cause a 1 month delay. I've been there. It sucks. In fact, I've had this happen every time I've tried something for the first time. Head swap on the Z (result 7 weeks), head swap on the TA (almost 3 months), limited slip install on the Z (4 weeks), it goes on... Edit: I'm going to go into detail on a couple of these: Head swap on Z: simple SBC head/cam install. "Very easy." Problems: 1) Intake was a late style bolt pattern, a few days to redrill the holes 2) Intake didn't line up with head ports, had to shave the base 3) New heads were angle plug, old headers didn't fit. Long delay - getting (and having to pay for) new coated headers 4) Intake leaked once installed, got to pull it and reinstall Head swap on TA: 1) Didn't like one aspect of the new heads, so I took it for additional valve work. 1 month. 2) Couldn't get the power steering pulley off. 3 weeks. No joke. 3) Headers were a ***** to work with. At least a weekend. Limited slip install on the Z: I forget, but it took a long time and cost more than I expected. Wait no, it was the CV boots were a freakin' pain. Makes me even now thinking about it and it was over a year ago.
  2. Did you see this? Same car http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=108546
  3. I noticed the problem and noticed that it was fixed.
  4. My location speaks the truth <----------------
  5. Did anyone notice the lack of side marker lights? That was one subtle change that I think reallly cleaned up the side of the car! Edit: Scrolling up I see J Taylor's done the same thing. Unless I was looking for that I don't think I'd ever notice.
  6. I'll probably do these with black centers, 17x9.5 back 17x8.5 front: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=108490
  7. Those are imported oem mirrors. Charlie at Zedd Findings got them for me. Mind you they are a good chunk of change, but with what I was already spending on the paint job I really wanted to have them done right. I don't regret it at all! They are my favorite aspect of the car. I haven't put it to the test yet, but I figure they are also what will draw the most looks. The gray is as subtle as a metallic paint can get. Sure it looks great once you see it, but from 20 feet away the average viewer's eye won't be captured by the color alone. For contrast, take Corzette's car. If mine and his were parked 100 feet apart in a parking lot, someone entering the parking lot would drive over to his first! Not saying this in a derogatory manner at all; there's no disputing the fact his car is loud! The mirrors on the other hand really set the car apart from others on the road... don't see fender mirrors... ever? I originally requested the satin gray/black color the originals had. The shop owner came back and asked if I really wanted my car to look like every other unpainted body kit car. The bolts holding them are black.
  8. Pearl and Kandy coats are applied like that. I thought about it with my car. We even shot a couple test panels, but in the end it didn't look any better to me (yes it was different and good but so was the "plain gray" I went with) and would just be a hellish nightmare if we ever had to match it later.
  9. They were on the car when I bought it
  10. I am --> <-- this close to getting 17x9.5 rear, 17x8.5 front Centerline Big Sirs with black centers...
  11. House of Kolor Galaxy Gray Metallic
  12. I would but it's got my name on it
  13. I haven't driven it since July! I know the tires are dirty We took off the plate holder on the front but I forgot to snap pics afterwards.
  14. My LM1 is black and doesn't have D2 (just opened it up)
  15. Hah thanks for answering. They came on the car when I bought it, I just assumed they were a gnose thing
  16. I have the special hinges. No gap (at least not like you're talking).
  17. It sucks in air. It's definitely...sucking.
  18. D1 is a 1N4001B diode. I can't read D4, but double check it since a 1N4004 looks identical. Pick it up at a Fry's or at Radio Shack (if they have it). Edit: You can use a 1N4004 in place of a 4001, but not the opposite. The 4004 just supports a higher peak voltage. Edit again: I just went to the garage and looked at them (gosh I'm a freakin nerd, huh?). The 4004 is the black ones D4 and D5. D2 is also a 4001. Mouser sells them, but you'll pay the minimum $3 or something service fee for a $0.03 part (literally: link) The resistor outlined in blue is the same, they don't make a difference which way they are inserted.
  19. You ran in U3, but I'll be forced into U2 from the motor Is the suspension I listed above reasonable for entry into U2? Or is it just child's play at that point?
  20. I'm not sure I want my car to see a season of racing. That might sound looney but hear me out. In the long run, the car's primary purpose will be selling itself. It's my development and testbed for the management system I'm building. I like it because it's unique, and it offers huge advantages such as emissions exemption, etc, while I develop the electronics. Due to the fact that I'm developing the electronics and I want to be the one to sell them in the end, I'm not looking for sponsorship in the build. It'd be awesome to try to have someone pay for it, but for me it'd probably be more hassle than it's worth. The car would make a fine demonstration with a racer driving it for a couple test days without any other cars on the track. A good performance there would build interest from outside. At the point the system was ready to see a full season of racing, a car would be built using my electronics for RACE with minimal concern for show. My car needs to "flaunt" this stuff. Bring interest by being different. That said, show is not only an important part of my build, but for time spent it will be the majority of what it does. Unfortunately, it's not all it has to do. There has to be something I can show for its performance, which means I'll need such things as demo videos and times that can be compared to other cars that ran the same course at different times. One of my key target markets is tuners. Many of their cars never see the track, just dynos and the street. They have money though, and my electronics have something to offer them that they don't already have. Things I'm working on to target them is things like the flashy paint and custom airbrushing. Also everything under the hood which won't be unveiled for a good while (you won't be disappointed ). The cage will be built with a modern feel such as wrapped to the shape of the interior. SCCA for example doesn't like that, but it's still very strong and looks better. Such a cage would keep the driver safe while appealing to a key audience, but would prevent the car from many racing classes. If in the end this car puts down monster numbers at the dyno, low numbers on the road [course] in time trials, and has enough bling to make people gawk and award it trophies, then the car will be a successful demonstration of an offering of everything my target audience wants in a car. I'm really curious about things like this: In time trials, how would a datsun equipped with this suspension and slicks perform next to the exotics? It's an "unfair comparison" since it's comparing a street car (exotics like the Porsche GT3 or F40/50) to a purpose built race car wearing slicks, but in the end, could the little old-school Datsun pull off times as good? Those things make buyers happy in their pants.
  21. 2.02/1.57 valves isn't everything. My ARE ported LS1 heads flowed 260 with them. My Patriot/Port Pros LS1 heads flow just over 300 with them. If you need heads, there's an excellent LS1 machinist here, Harold at Port Pros. The PS pump is nothing. **With the correct GM tool** you can have it off and back on in 10 minutes, no exaggeration. Having done the swap before with a Vortech on top of the engine, I'm pretty sure I could do a "regular" LS1 head swap in 1 full day. Aftermarket MAF sensors are looked down on by many LS1 tuners. I'm not the least bit surprised it caused problems. :dunno: Note from MIKE *Sorry, Thought I hit the Qoute Button and hit the "edit" button on YOUR thread... Multitasking sometimes isn't a good thing! Mike
  22. After seeing William Shatner's little kidney stone, I can see why they are so painful. (One of my coworkers is the guy who bought that one)
