  1. ok it is pretty simple...I will post three words and you continue the story with three words, no double posting, wait until someone else has posted. this makes an interesting read... One day I...
  2. I have "The Metal Fabricators Handbook" that was first published in like 1985 and it has a lot of info on fabrication in terms of doing a car. they show doing a 1 piece front end on a race car over a wooden buck and all sorts of stuff. Including roll cages.
  3. ok...why doesn't someone make a daytona kit for a Z? maybe when I open a shop in a decade I will convert my Z... That is soo cool. Thanks for posting that. Look at the other video that that user has at a track day...oh it is pure in-car glory...
  4. how old are the illuminas? I am about to purchase some and just wanted to know. I'll send a pm...
  5. try it flux core with gas...that will weld nicer than straight flux wire and you won't have all of the spatter...
  6. 2200lb with a Dana 60??? the dana 60 weighs like 350pounds!!! at least!!! My buddy has a full width one and he dropped it on his garage floor and removed a huge chunk just dropping one end like 3 feet...
  7. what y'all don't know is this is the guy we are probably racing ...and we just don't know it...
  8. that is why you don't lower your car more than an inch without urethane...It has saved me...
  9. I have the ss lines on mine with the solid rotor toyota calipers and they don't even mount to the strut...I'll probably just cut the old mount off since I won't be using it.
  10. that is what I was thinking...using a part made for compression in tension...not a good idea... ok we can delete this thread now...lol
  11. oh...well I was just looking at the rear...I wasn't thinking about the front. That would definitely not work on the front. I was thinking of the rear where there is no pivoting.
  12. well as I dissassembled my strut assembly and I had parts just laying around...I had this idea. My Z is the early 260 so it has the 240 type suspension... so I thought why not just take the top hat mount and mount it inside the car? I am doing coilovers with 225f/250r,evil-bay illuminas(most likely), poly bushings... well just for kicks I put the cap on the inside of the car and stuck the insert through it and I think it could possibly work...would just have to figure out the upper spring mount but that would extend your struts like an inch and a half or two inches... The only problems I could see is that you are pulling on the mounting studs rather than using them to hold the whole thing in place... I would probably end up better fabbing some camber plates but I was just wondering...can something be that easy???surely there is something wrong with it...
  13. he has almost the same wheels as me...I have the 15" version that I thinks looks better. Those look weird and look like there is too much backspace at all because of the weird shape of the outer shell... it is a cool car but he has invested too much I think and now needs to bail out of his project... there are my 15x8's (4 in backspacing) under modified stock fenders...
  14. yep...there was a discussion about it on zdriver a long time ago...
  15. wow I never realized how big bumpstops were for a Z since my Z doesn't have them and never bottoms out even with the stock springs...now I am doing coilovers with 225f/250r springs and about to order illuminas. I wonder if I will need those monstrosity of bumpstops...or if I can make my own...
  16. thanks for that link...that is a very useful program...
  17. it is probably faster to spray it but the roller method is better for us that can't spray paint...I don't have an air compressor or any experience with any air tool except a few minutes with a die grinder...so this is turning out pretty good. I am thinking of painting my Z the petty colors with light blue and then a rich orange stripe down the middle...I think that would look awesome on a Z!!! I saw a pic of a Z painted those colors and it looks really good. I like really black but maybe it is time for a change... *edit* here is the pic of the Z I was talking about
  18. I just went out into the garage and tried the fingernail test on my fender with gloss black professional rustoleum and I have one thin coat on there...I thinned it out about 35-40% low odor mineral spirits and it is ROCK SOLID!!! I am now going to strip the whole car and begin the process of painting the whole thing!!! it is more scratch resistant than the stock paint!!! I just did a thin coat in about 55 degree weather and left it with a light on the fender for a few days without touching it and then I let it sit another few days...ROCK SOLID!!! nothing else like it!!! I am really excited that this is going to work!!!
  19. there is NO sanding time on my hood...I just scruffed the paint up and rolled over it...just to see how it would do. I have stripped the left front fender and applied one thin coat... it seems to be doing very good...and thinning it ALOT more helps...like 35%...or more...and doing very thin coats...
