here is what I did today...
I stripped the paint to bare metal and put down a line to paint to for the two tone red/black
for some reason it looks orange but it is actually very red. I probably just need to change the settings on my camera
I need a new window regulator that is not bent...I went through several Z's at the junkyard and they were all bent. Then the Manager at the junkyard pulled about 3 out in 20 minutes...all bent...lol we took the regulators out of every early Z there (like 30 first gen Z's and about 10 with the 240/early 260 regulators)...
I just painted over it...I scruffed it a little but not much. I know absolutely nothing about bodywork so this is my learning experience. I'll key the paint to see how it holds up.
I just got the diamonds because of the great price and the fact that they are black. and they weigh 18 pounds...not bad for steel.
I just don't like aluminium rims that much...just not many that suit my tastes within my very limited price range.
yeah I saw the new trucks where they started the $10k project or whatever...that is what happens when corporate hears about a show's sucess and wants to make it better...whatever.
saw a little of muscle car and it was ok...extreme 4x4 is cool but they don't do much with real world jeeps and trucks...they did a CJ5 and put revolver shackles on it...so what... then they get a poison spider chassis and put crappy welds on it...The girl (jess?) on the show can actually weld fairly well...
some people have had problems with that but I haven't had one bubble. just be sure to thin it out enough. When I started painting with this method I was puting it on really thick and it looked decent but it took forever to dry.
I could if I owned a welder...I am in welding school currently...
What I am going to do is cut out the whole outer part of the inner fender and replace it with a custom piece. I am going to take a round fender for a trailer and slice it down the center and use one for each side of the car to allow more tire clearance inside the fender.
I am planning on puting one of those Zena welding systems on my Z hooked up to the unused A/C pully so I can make money without too much of an investment.
well there was a picture of it on MSA's website...but their gallery is down. it was a red 240 that was really clean. I think it had T-tops as well. It had fender vents, power windows, A/C, and a lot of other performance stuff.
well if you can put an L6 into a 510 you should be able to put one in a pickup...I think I have sen a datsun pickup with an L6 in it before somewhere on the web...
slownrusty: nice pic...and yes it would take a bit of fabrication...but it is worth it.
have you started dissassembly yet? I need those illuminas and sway bars soon and need to know if I should just get them somewhere else. I am in a time crunch here. My Z is ready to have the suspension put back in and I need the stuff soon!
well it is not much different...with just painting over paint you don't have to worry about sanding very close to the time you paint. I usually strip the surface of one panel and puit the first coat on that night. the first coat will not completely cover the metal so it will look like there is little spots of bare metal but it is protected from rusting until your next coats.
the first thing I thought when I sat in a 350 was "this is barely largerthan a miata!" and the miata was a tight fit for me at 6 feet tall. the Z is very spacious for my size with my crushed down seats.
in styling. I like the miata vents a little better than those huge ones. but neither are big enough to cool brakes or anything.
and good photoshop there Boobala....that makes it presentable. now just lower the whole car an inch and shorter tires and it would be sweet.
you could just duct tape it and then if you have a MIG welder just tack it on or you could rivet it. I'll put more ideas up tomorrow. got to get ready for my college classes tomorrow.
you CAN do anything...but it would be much easier to use 4 rear fenders. the front ones odn't leave enough metal to go under the rocker area. the rears have plenty of metal to work with.
yep...do it. Or you could go to www.ZENA.net and get one of their 150 amp GENERATORS. It's not an alternator. It is built inside of a GM alternator housing for ease of mounting but the interior is completely redesigned
we could do a Z with 2 civic drivetrains in it...lol or 2 v8 front wheel drive cars...lol
It should not be that hard. he did weld galvanized steel though...
sorta dumb. That can really do you in if you are exposed to those fumes too much.
this last coat the roller was a bit hard from there still being a some paint on it from the last coat.
I painted that left fender bare. you don't want to see what I found on my rocker part of the fender when I sanded the bondo off...
I'll get a picture tonight.
I also did not use an exact percentage of mineral spirits...Just applied it until it felt right like 69charger said over on the moparts website.
