  1. also if you notice that on the airplane stuff that the vortex generators are mounted on either the leading edge or on the outermost point on teh airfoil. I think if the VGs were mounted on the center of the Z's roof it would be more effective by cutting into open wind rather than wind that is flowing DOWN the back of the car already. Maybe VGs mounted right at the rear of Ryan's moon roof would be cutting into clean air a little more. It just seems odd that the airplane guys are mounting these where they can be seen from a straight-on view and we are mounting them rearward on the roof where they can't really be seen from straight on. Just my 2 cents on the aero subject...
  2. Awesome video Phil! That motor looks killer!!!
  3. Yeah I thoght the same thing. I'm working on making it to look more S30 with a better roof on the side profile. I guess I should delete the rear bumper in the side profile too...lol
  4. I took a stock Z that somebody made and modified it...using a very complex program that almost nobody has... Called MSpaint... Save your files as a .PNG if you are doing to do pixel cars...
  5. These inline 6 nissan engines are stout little things!! I pulled a cylinder head that had 210,000 miles and it looked great!
  6. I'll add a L20B valve cover and a perfect drivers side window to replace my dinged and scratched up one. Also have an extra cam gear...
  7. The 74 260z stuff will work *IF* it is from an early 260z. If it is from a 74.5 260z it may not work. The late 260z was basically a 280z with an L26 engine. Lots of suspension stuff changed. The early 260z was basically a late 240z with a 280z crankshaft and connecting rods. It had the 240z suspension... Hope that helps
  8. weird...You would think that would slam the piston against the cylinder head and flat out mutilate everything before the cap came completely off. That must have made one heck of a racket...LOL
  9. Did the rod bolt break or did the threads strip off? Weird... Never seen that with just bent rod bolts... BTW if you want to ship that to me (I'll pay) I'm looking to increase my "wall of Z shame" collection. I already have some bent valves and old stock Z brakes to start the collection.
  10. So after the second aero test is done I'll be completely reworking my Z's aero. I can get my hands on a slightly dented 240z hood that is at the JY right now. If y'all would like me to make a vented hood for the next aero test I'll do it.
  11. Ouch!!! What rod is that? stock L24? EEK!!!!
  12. I have been wanting to build a roof rack for my Z for those camping trips...Just push the coilovers up to 4X4 level and illuminas to "1" and hit the trails!
  13. That is the idea. Full blackout. Thanks! That is the one good road around my place. I found it when I was delivering pizza in my Z since it was a shortcut with less traffic. The car will be getting a complete makeover starting this summer. I'm thinking I'll use a Z32 pearl white or VERY close to it. the coachwork should be similar to the pixel car that I made(modified): Also I'll have a good little motor to go with the new body. ~Dan~
  14. No wonder it overheated on TV...lol Or someone was too cheap to go get a $3 thermostat... Look how much the thremostat housing is eroded. EEK!!!
  15. Schematic? Haha... We just took a piece of paper and listed what all needed power and if it needed it's own fuse or not. Then we ran one wire at a time until the car was done. I think the solder will be fine. We used a 40 watt soldering iron which was a little slow at heating up the wire. Hooking up the horn was interesting. Since I'm not going to be using the combo switch I cannibalized it for the contact to the steering weel. I also have to figure out what to do for a turn signal switch. Undecided on that one. All of it's wiring is ready but it just needs a switch. Well we spent a LOT of hours working on the wiring... Maybe 100 hours?? We made plenty of trips to go get parts and MORE CONNECTORS.
  16. I considered several of the universal systems. If I did it myself I'd know the whole system a lot better. I probably spent the same amount as a regular universal harness but it was worth it to get the experience wiring a car. The local guy that completely rewires cars said he would do the same thing for about $2,000!!!!!! And that is using crimp connectors! We soldered ALL of the crimp connections so that oxidation won't be as much of an issue for corroding the wires. It took at least twice as long to solder everything but I think it was worth it. I could do a similar wiring system to mount in the same place as the stock system. I just had extra space to mount it all by eleting the heater and fan. I put in an extra fuse block to allow me to add on some stuff in the future such as an EMS, extra gadgets and widgets, and maybe even a small ultra lightweight radio! Thanks for the link on the polarizing film!
  17. Wel a little progress has been made this week. Got the servos for the guages working and calibrated. We are still working on finishing the wiring for the car. Everything is wired but I think weput some relays too close together (magnetic) or there is a bad ground somewhere or a bad relay. Should get that figured out today. I got 75% of the wires loomed up but have to redo some of the zip-ties. The others should be done soon. It all fits nicely under my aluminum dash and no wires hang down when properly tucked up. WOOHOO!!! We used an ENTIRE 500ft roll of wire in my car...and then some.
  18. bwahahaha. you now have 1000 posts... here is the newer driving video...
  19. I downloaded it too. Really cool. If you like those kind of games check this out... www.ragdollsoft.com VERY addictive...
  20. And 6 months of that I haven't had access to hybridZ!!! You got me BRAAP... That is basically because I am too poor to be out in the garage too much installing cool Z stuff. (saving up for a cool motor though ) You know how that goes.
  21. Happy Birthday!!! May you get a motor together soon for your Z!!! It is always cool to know other young guys with Zs...
  22. This is the 10,000th thread in the NON-TECH forum... Y'all need to get back out in the garage!!!! ~Dan~
