  1. Heck I paid 850 something for a lightweight flywheel and strong clutch for my Z...
  2. Well I know I won't starve it for oil... *turbo oil pump* The rod bearings are brand new The gaskets are all new The valvetrain is cobbled from my Z's head and valvesprings (a low 90k miles) and 200k mile Maxima cam and valves... Another odd parts combo on my engine...
  3. nope! My motor has deemed fairly bombproof in the past... (i.e. blowing past 8500 RPMS when my tranny went out and it still ran fine and didn't nick any pistons or blow a headgasket!) I need to see how it holds up now with a couple nicked pistons. (Kids, put your motor back together properly when you aren't falling asleep standing there and take your time!) Oh well...
  4. Yes this rustoleum doesn't lose it's color like most paints do! That makes it really awesome! I just don't have the time now to paint the whole car with rustoleum and polish the thing.
  5. LOL... So we race until one of us busts a motor?
  6. Thanks! It definitely sounds a lot different than any other first gen Z I have heard... I'm also trying to find a set of mikuni or similar carbies to free up my top end power since I don't have much low end power anymore from the light flywheel and raised compression. I'll do my own porting on the MN47 intakes as well. Exhaust liners can stay as-is. Need the bigger valves and a good valve job... This MN47 head will be used on a turbo build down the road too so it will probably get a turbo cam regrind...
  7. I'll have my car back running by the end of the week...and I think you are going to blow out a head gasket with all that turbo mumbo jumbo.. Your car will probably pop something trying to run this thing called boost who needs that anyway I'll just twist mine up past 7k like it begs for where most EFI Zs fall flat on their face at 5500. To be fair I have a better electramotive suspension (that is what the PO said)while you have big(er) motor... I do have slightly nicked pistons though so my motor could pop...
  8. Careless: Thanks! That sounds like the stuff! I skimmed the article in Hot Rod magazine and they did a pretty good job with it. Just basically the stuff you would find in the HBZ threads or the moparts thread(s) condensed down into a 5-6 page article with all the nonsense taken out.
  9. Doesn't MSA sell the xenon urethane air dam? there should be a stamping on the inside right near the middle.
  10. Jason: That sounds like a pretty good combo. I'm just worried that you may not have enough carburetor for that much motor. Then again it sounds awesome for a strong street motor that won't be living above 4k... I am running an L26 with L24 flattops (9.2:1)and it needs more fuel... I lose a lot of power above 6000 and I think it is because of the fact that I have a mild cam and the carburetors are too restrictive. Looking to get a big cam and 40-45mm tripples. I have a stripped MN47 (39cc chambers) just sitting there begging for bigger valves and a HOT cam... That would get me to 10.2:1 unless I got the Nismo .6mm headgasket. That would get me into the 11:1 range. I just don't think the ol' SUs can provide enough fuel for my RPM and compression aspirations... Maybe if I got my hands on some better needles...
  11. Alright if I don't say something now you are going to get yelled at... do a search to find out good combos and read the FAQ secton of this site. Great info... What are your plans? do you want something quick to ride around backroads or do you want a fire breathing track machine? You can build a fairly cheap fun motor from junkyard parts for under $1000 with new bearings and gaskets and such... good read: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116680
  12. Yes he did. He sprayed his rustoleum onto his car. He does have the problem of the black showing all of the billion of the little nitpicky defects...
  13. I say that if you are using any rustoleum on your car don't mix it with anything other than mineral spirits. Nismo280zed: Not yet on HBZ... Bartman: Thanks! I'll pick it up! Rustoleum is LEADED paint so I'm going to have to be careful stripping it back off. Probably some kind of stripping liquid... I'm not really going to do much more rustoleum except to cover up rusty parts... I'm going to be getting a real paint job in the next year or so (after new fenders are made). Looking at the Z32 pearl white or a similar pearl.
  14. The problem with anodizing is that it is very thin and scratches easily. Either Jason above or Mike (2003z) at www.thepowdercoater.com can do powdercoating... Both do excellent quality work as I had Mike powdercoat my engine block and valve cover in prismatic black.. Mike also did my Dad's 944 turbo intake and it is a perfect match for the guards red that the car is painted.(engine bay is dirty) If you are building a HIGH HP car that the turbo is going to get really hot then I'd get high temp powder or ceramic coating.
  15. So what do you do with the carcases of all these cars? pile them up in your back yard or something?
  16. Thanks for the help guys! the oil pump/ distributor shaft was off by two teeth. Fixed now and the thing is running awesome! I just need to get the exhaust remounted and it will be streetworthy! Tomorrow I'll be having that done and I'll also probably be getting a supertrapp muffler to replace the gutted turbo muffler. I gave it a good rev toay to about 6k and...IT IS A BEAST!!! Can't wait until the end of the summer when I can put my MN47 head (maybe a huge cam regrind and shave the head a little? ) on there!
  17. saweet!!! how much power do you think you are making? 300hp? 350hp?
  18. I saw one at the "tail of the dragon" yesterday...you could fit 2.5 of those things in the length of a first gen Z!!! rediculous!
  19. It is a problem called neighbors... the thing is WAYYYY too loud. I'm going to drive the car to the muffler shop this morning.
  20. wednesday night (yes two days ago!) My maxima head that I am going to build (before I stripped and cleaned it, 210,000 miles!!)... my setback a couple days ago... This is also sort of an experiment to see if polishing the pistons will stop carbon from sticking to the piston. If these pistons explode then so be it...I'll roll with the punches and start my turbo build...
  21. What is cool is that I've never heard another L6 that sounded like mine. Sure it is normaly a 2.5" pipe and a turbo muffler but the motor is a hybrid between an L24, L26, and a bunch of L24e parts... L24 pistons and main pully L26 block L26/L28 crank and rods E88 stock head, valve springs, retainers MN47 valves and cam 240Z roundtop carbs prismatic black powdercoated block and valve cover Mallory 6a ignition (as of today) MSD 5900 as a backup mystery header... oh and an 11lb flywheel and SPEC stage 2+ clutch... that is how it revs like it does... What a mix of junk!! It sounds good though!!! The open wires in the engine bay are whats left of my old wiring harness...just there to have the motor running I'll get a pic once it is done. It is going to ook CLEAN when it is done...
  22. Just got it running but can you answer the question in the video?? weird... I fixed the leaky smoke btw... and valve adjustment tonight...
  23. yep! I have just completely rebuilt my L26 and spent a ton of $$$ and didn't even touch the internals except for bearings... Should be cranking for the first time in about 15 minutes...
  24. 280zforce: Imagine how far ahead you would be if you started with that...
