  1. Since I'll be dropping in a fresh engine, I will be sticking with the stock turbo, and stock injectors during the break in. Once it's broken in, I have some 42.5 lb (009's) injectors to play with. As far as how much power, well my buddy is really good at tuning these engines and has got a GN, which is ~1,000lbs. heavier, to run a 12 flat with little more than a chip, 110 race gas, turning up the boost and lots of tuning. This car should be plenty quick with the stock setup for now. With Desktop Dyno, my buddy and I figure that with a decent launch my Z will be mid elevens with the stock setup with the 3.54 rear end. When the summer is over and I have worked out all the bugs, then I will upgrade to a bigger turbo (probably a 60). I can't wait to take this thing to Road America and stretch it's legs! It's going to be so much fun to beat up on the exotics around here . !M!
  2. Sure do! I've had it for a few years and have recently rebuilt it. !M!
  3. Last night, I took my Z out for one last drive with the L24. My goal was to blow the engine like I have been trying to do for over a year now, but all that happens is I float the valves. Oh well, less clean up anyway. This afternoon I walk out side to see this: With a huge smile on my face, I pull out the knife and dig in . Whoa baby, look what I found! There is a whole bunch of cool stuff in there. Scottie's GNZ had run out of time, it's life was over. Being the good person that Scottie is, he was a organ donor. All the parts you see there are from Scottie's Z and make my swap sooo much easier. I will keep the updates coming. Within the next week or so, the L24 will get pulled, and the GN engine bolted in . There will be many pictures for all that are interested. !M!
  4. Nick, The engine does not suck! The web page you were probably refering to was Cadillac HotRod Fabricators, right? It's a awsome engine and there has been talk of it here. If you look at the top of the page, there is a "Search" button. Click it and enter "Northstar". There is 4 pages worth of information for you to read . Also, the weight of a SBC compared to the inline 6, isn't that much of a difference. !M!
  5. And I thought those white blotches on Buick Grand Nationals were bird crap... !M!
  6. I can't get the hazard switch out of the dash. I've tried everything except for a BFH. I've gone as far as unscrewing the retaining nut behind the knob, but then what? I have the hazard switch pushed in and have turned it left or right, but it just spins, nothing comes loose. Just so there is no confusion about what hazard switch I'm talking about (there are a couple designs), I have included a picture below. Also, where the heck is the flasher for the right turn signal on a '73? I can't listen for it anymore, because now the right turn signal doesn't even work. I have a FSM around here, but I've lost it. Thank you. !M!
  7. Ah, so you did finally get together with the owner and get some pictures of your old car? Cough them up Terry , we all want to see! !M!
  8. That is "nixcar" or "nixcars" Z if I remember correctly. He said that it took a lot of work to make that 240SX dash fit right in his 240Z. I'm not sure how well it will fit in your 280ZX though. !M!
  9. That was an oldy but a goody. My sister just told me of a joke I told her a few years back that I don't even remember telling her, lets see if I can tell it right... This woman walks into a grocery store. She gets a single pack of bologna, one loaf of bread, one pack of hot dogs, a six'er of her favorite soda and a box of Oreo's. She walks up to the check out counter and places her items on the conveyor belt. The woman scanning her items looks at the lady then looks at the items, again, looks at the lady then looks at the items. The check out lady then asks, "Ma'am, are you single?" The lady replies, "Why yes, how did you know?" The checker replies, "Because you're ugly." !M!
  10. Well, it doesn't cost you anything to pull it apart and check it out. Resurface the flywheel if needed (most likely) and check the clutch out. While you're in there, replace the throwout bearing. I don't think your $32 in your checking account is going to cover the costs, but don't you have access to a shop/school where you can resurface the flywheel? Good luck Mike. !M!
  11. It sounds like bad clutch chatter combined with original engine mounts and trans mounts. Your drivetrain is probably rocking around with the chatter making the sounds you are hearing. Clutch chatter is less noticable in the higher gears. Or, you are dropping a cylinder while taking off? !M!
  12. I have a Yahoo e-mail address, but I get an error message: "Error GROUP_CHECK" !M!
  13. Sorry to get off subject, but Terry, you are going to move the mounting points inward so the bar see's not only twisting, but more bending (up and down movement) to mimic a 1/2" bar? I had to sit here and think about how moving the chassis mounting points inward would make the bar less effective. Didn't make sense at first. Did you do any calculations to figure out where the mounting points should be or are you just going to shoot from the hip? !M!
  14. I have a couple pictures. They aren't the best' date=' but you get the idea. [img']http://5.pichold.com/rear_coilovers_1.jpg[/img] !M!
  15. Thanks guys. Spotfitz, my hazard switch is located right below the cigarette lighter on my '73, so it's difficult to get to it. So, I can just turn the knob off and push it through the dash? I guess I'll give it a shot. I just didn't want to break it. I did clean my turn signal switch and headlight switch not to long ago. Somehow the headlight switch had a melt down after I cleaned it . The turn signal switch worked fine afterwords, but now I have problems. I'll post about what happens after I futz with it a bit. !M!
  16. I have a different kind of headlight, but it is still the 7". It's made for a VW Jetta. A picture is in my photo album. Look for the user name "dot" that has the Jag' V-12, he has a different headlight treatment. There is also a convertible Z in the sites photo album with a different headlight treatment you might want to check out. There was also a red Z from Canada I believe, that had pop up headlights, like on a 'Vette. !M!
  17. UPDATE After much searching I was finally able to obtain the needed metric tubing in coated seamless steel for the sleeves. I have the sleeves available for the 10mm ring gear bolts to fit in a 12mm carrier. With the cost of the tube, cutting wheels, and time involved for clean up of the sleeves, I'm pricing a set (of 10 sleeves) at $20. The sleeves are a perfect fit . PM me if you are interested in a set. I need to sell at least 2 sets to break even on the tubing. !M!
  18. After seeing your previous work and now this, I have a feeling you will do very well. !M!
  19. No, no, it was 10:53pm Central time. !M!
