  2. For 120,000 I would expect some more pictures, but that may just be me... Think it would cost 50,000 to rebuild, too? Pat
  3. 75 since '99 http://visitmt.com/tripplanner/transportation/safety.htm Yeah, 260K also buys a lot in IL, but not THAT much
  4. I'd say Dan J's setup is mean like that because of the tpi and manual tranny. That makes a huge difference as per my experience. Pat
  5. Funny stuff. I read some of your website after this thread and we have something in common: toggle switches for the backup lights. The switch on my b&m shifter broke, so I just put in a toggle and you know what? I really like it that way because you can flash the white lights at tailgaters and they go WTF? Let me tell you, the difference between your current 305 and the upcoming 350 will make you happy. I've had all these combinations of trannies and motors in my Z (all 600cfm carbed): 305/T350, 350/T350, 305/700r4, and 350/700r4. The 305/T350 combination is just sucky. Then, with the 305/700r4 it will get out of its own way off the line, but not much else to speak of. Of course, 350/350 is decent, but has no O/D. Best of both is definitely 350/700r4. Anyway, you should look for about a 50hp increase (stock) and a disproportionately large increase in fun factor becase the torque is higher earlier. If you build up your 350 as stated you will be all grins for sure. For me, the gas mileage stayed about the same with about a 1mpg drop at cruise with the change from 305/700r4 to the 350. Cheers, Pat

    Broken R230

Someday, when I grow up, I want to launch like that... Seriouly good looking car, it's about the same color, etc. as mine. Pat
  7. PrO: I hope you are kidding that your instructor allowed you to land with G30 crosswinds, the poor little 172N is only demonstrated to handle 14kts! If so, then good job and I'm glad you didn't damage the airframe. That said, I have been in a similar situation and still continued to land. You just come in hotter if you have runway to spare for the float. I know how scary it can look when you have that crab in until about 200' then bring in the rudder to line up with the runway only to see that it is going to be a close one. Remember, the two safest words in a cessna are GO AROUND, LOL. You just can't do it as easily in a 747 or a B-52 because of their hugeness and a whole lotta lag between you telling it to climb and it actually rotating back up then finally climbing. Hell, a C310 (smallish light twin) takes appreciably longer to rotate than does a C172N. I guess the B-52 (747's swivel a little) has to have the swiveling landing gear like that because they do eventually have to land and since they use up a lot of runway, they might not have many options! Pat (<-CFII)
  8. Here's a shortcut to the Canadian page for this service. It will save you time. Cheers
  9. TTT Thanks for reading, hope someone can chime in!
  10. Hey all, My dad just got his tranny (a first-year electronic 700R4, M20) rebuilt by a friend and now it does NOT shift into gears 2 and 4 It used to before the rebuild, though. Now it will just rev way up in 1st until you let off the gas then it goes to 3rd and won't go to 4th. Supposedly this is because of a bad seal somewhere?? or some electronic component in the valve body, but I don't know which one that could be. I have rebuilt a THM350, but never a 700, and it was cake for me. The thing is, this guy will not be available to work on it for a while and I would rather just do it myself to help the old man out. So, if anybody has expertise on this I would like a point in the right direction as far as parts purchasing and repair goes. Hopefully it is something that does not require a complete teardown to repair! Thanks! Pat
  11. But das' only in the mo'nin. You should be up makin' some breffas o sumpin'.
  12. All I have to say is: D'OH!! Yeah, I bet those Tokico's sound pretty good now. Pat
  13. Sure it would shift through the gears, it would be the same as if you gunned it on ice. HOW it shifted would still depend on throttle position even with no load. But, it would probably puke ATF like said. Pat
  14. My first engine in the 77 was a freebie 2-barrel 305 with a th350 tranny. This was with the stock 3.545 rear end. The combo had like 152,000 miles on it. While the car was NOT slow off the line, it really sucked past around 3K rpms where the power just seemed to level off. It had no problems at all pulling itself up to the redline of about 115 mph even with the crappy powerband. Anyway, I don't have slips, but it would do 0-60 in around 7 seconds and probably 1/4 mile in the 16's. This was very close to the stock L6 engine's performance and just motivated me more to get the "good" mild 350 engine in it. So do I win for my (formerly) slowest v8 Z car? I want to see someone else chime in with slow times. Seriously, the only way one could be slower is with a 283 or something else that is tired and smaller than the 305. By the way, that engine had 145 horsies and 240 torque from the factory, so I was somewhere around there power-wise. Pat
  15. 270,000 on an 88 chevy tbi 305 Silverado without anything more than changing oil and tuneups, brakes, shocks, exhaust, etc. But, it is definitely not on its first 700r4 tranny, more like the 3rd...And it still gets about the same gas mileage it got from the factory. I seem to like it.
  16. WOW Don't know if that's luck or good driving, but that looks like me when I'm playing GTA. Good stuff. Pat
  17. Yeah, it sounds like the black permatex form-a-gasket stuff. True, it never really dries up. Also, I don't like the stuff from personal experience. Who needs a goopy gasket? Not you. Has anybody found an acceptable use for that stuff? Pat
  18. You should be fine. I have RH threads all around on my 77 and it works just like it used to. Pat
  19. Chaparral2f: Ha! I was worried big time that my th350 rebuild was not going to work if I had somehow forgotten a seal or clutch somewhere, but I got lucky. I have only rebuilt the one. I once replaced the alternator, tensioner pulley, power steering pump, and water pump before figuring out that the clunking noise was actually a bad harmonic balancer. But that was mostly ignorance at play. Also, stripped out two of the internal motor mount threads while trying to attach my home-made JTR style mounts that didn't quite line up perfectly... That sucked, but I fixed it (bigger holes and bolts). Lesson learned: don't force it, if it isn't right it won't work. Yeah, I was 17 at the time and impulsive. Pat
  20. Hmmm, Modified string theory employed to describe an easily diagnosed problem. I'LL BUY IT! Actually, there is no RPM change and you are bull$#!%%ing us. Right, ZR8ED? Otherwise, you def. changed something else other than just the exhaust if the rpm's changed and you have a manual tranny with a good clutch. What you suggest is unpossible IMHO...
  21. Z0wner, So, you're in the area of Chenoa, El Paso, Gridley, Secor... cool. Trust me, you can say the name of the town and I will definitely know its location. Maybe you live in Kappa and don't want to admit it LOL. I have a 77 280Z with a JTR sbc. SiL-LadY, Never heard of Garage Kwai. Sorry! I have been to the Woodfield mall, though, if that counts for anything. Pat
  22. Hey, I spend my time between Champaign, IL and Pontiac, IL. It don't get no more central IL than that! Where are you? Pat
  23. Sounds like you might have seen this page, but I'll post it anyways... http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1314&prmenbr=361 Pat
  24. Mommy, make the bad man stop! Poor lil' 360... It really does look like the F150 was launched somehow, but how? Think if that had been someone's S30, it would have gotten even more squished. MiKelly, does this bring back some memories? OK, I'm done, been up too long today... Cheers, Pat
