  1. My brother just tested the sensors I had: Cold Hot (ohms) The 240Z water temp sensor 0.3840 0.059 The Bluebird water temp sensor 1.192 0.166 The RB26 water temp sensor 0.485 0.065 The other RB26 sensor (very left photo above) 2.23 0.55 So maybe I bought the wrong sensor as the Bluebird sensor which is the one I was told was the same as the 2.4 motor is miles different to the 240Z original sensor, yet the RB26 original sensor actually isnt that much different - see ohms numbers above. So question is - Is the 240Z sensor and gauge different to the 260Z sensor and gauge? Or alternately have I just been given the wrong sensor (Nissan Bluebird) compared to the one Careless has used? Any ideas Careless? Can you find out what the Nissan part number is of the models you mention - is it different or the same as the part number of the sensor I have bought? Anyone - I know the 240Z & the 260Z gauges are different in their look and body - are the sensors different - I have a 2.8 motor in my 240Z and the sensor is the 240Z one I think (has a blank sensor with a nut that slides over it and screws into the thermostat housing) In my 260Z I also had a 2.8 motor but the sensor which did run my 260Z gauge ok, screws into the thermostat housing but has a plastic like tube coming off the back of it? I will post some photos tomorrow. The plot thickens
  2. I had a look under the car at the sump and it is level so obviously they do sit at a slant, just to close the thread
  3. Nissan parts in Australia told me that the 2.4 came in the Nissan Pintara U12, the Nissan Navara Ute D21 and the Nissan Bluebird U13 in Australia I bought the sensor yesterday Nissan Part No 25080-89907, it has the number 7H stamped on it versus the RB26 one which has 9L stamped on it. The new sensor is the one on the right side (The middle one is the RB26 original) Hope I have the right one. I will check the impedance later and advise. See attached photos. The sensor on the very left is adjacent to the water temp sensor on the RB26 - does anyone know what this one is for? Is it some water temp sensor back to the ECU?
  4. Chris couldnt find a straight swap for the water temp sensor in order to use the original Z gauge. Below from another thread the answer is now available Quote: Originally Posted by getoffmyinternet I just realized today that Chris Rummel already discussed using the stock temp gauge for the rb swap. My hope is to figure out the specs of my l6 sensor and find an alternate sensor with the same specs but also the same size as the rb sensor so I can screw it into the stock port. If all else fails I can go his route, which isn't really bad at all. Just got my RB25 in and running a couple of weeks ago. Ran into the same thing with the temp sensor, but wanted a more elegant solution than adding an aftermarket temp gauge or inline sensor. I usually have multiple projects going on at once, and for the first time it worked to to be a benefit. Knowing that Nissan crosses over many parts, I scoured the garage for a similar sensor. By pure luck, it didn't take long - I had a '91 240SX KA24DE on an eng stand, and sure enough the sensor matched size and style. Taking a multi-meter to it, it had the same resistance at ambient temp and the orig Z sensor. Lacking time, I went ahead and tried it out. Just as I hoped, it read just left of center on the stock Z gauge with the eng at operating temp. It even ran midway right of center one time when I forgot to hook up the electric radiator fan. The toyota one from Chris R's install article (LOTS of good info there) was too small in diameter and wrong thread pitch. Hope this helps. 5. This is another fantastic find! Well done. This should be added to Chris Rummels thread for those looking in the future. I will try and copy across
  6. Imagine that, would be awesome for all of us to get together
  7. thanks everyone for your quick responses, mine looks the same as Joels. That gives me more confidence. Also I checked the sump and the pickup is on the LHS which means that it will always be in the deepest amount of oil. I am also fitting the accusump accumulator so hopefully no starvation. When are you all bringing your cars to Australia for a meet!!
  8. You dont need the O ring for the pickup. The pan bolts straight on, but you cant use the original RB26 windage trays. You have to fabricate the pickup - see my website below
  9. Those who have done the RB26Z or have a GTR - my engine with the mounts from the Castlemaine Rod Shop in Australia has a definite slant (at the top) to the LHS (driver side USA, pass side Aust) of the vehicle. In other words across the cam covers is not level, the LHS cam cover is lower. Is this how others are, or do I have a problem? If I bring it back to level the gear stick/tunnel will need cutting out as it is already to the RHS of the hole. With the slant I am just concerned as to whether the sump will not be level with potential oil starvation issues . Any feedback?
  10. Regards the temp sender - have you tried the original Z temp sender in the RB26 sender position or is it a completely different thread? I havent pulled my out to check it out yet
  11. Looks excellent. If you could establish what car it is out of - any chance the yard will know what it is? Regards the hoses - sre they the standard RB 25 hoses? regards Mike
  12. I have a friend doing the RB25 swap into his Z here in Perth WA. I am in the middle of the RB26 swap and purchased my sump and pickup through Nissan parts a couple of years ago, however they now say they are unavailable even out of Japan. Does anyone have a source for these any where? I 11110 - Oil sump 15050 - Oil pickup
  13. Please post the photos. Also can you try as per my email, to find out what model car it is out of. The B210 in Australia was called a 120Y and only had an OHV 4 cylinder motor with single carby - it is obviously different to what you are talking about
  14. Just remembered - for those in NZ or Australia with access to Holden parts - the VL Commodore (which had the Nissan RB30 motor) radiator and the V8 Commodore radiator have been used with the RB motor implant. You do however have to modify very slightly the chassis rail. Again the radiator identified by Jakeoster is a better option if it fits well between the rails
  15. If its the same as the Rb20 as you say, I have read that they already have a mechanical speedo drive. I cant believe that the speedo housing would be physically any different but rather mechanical or electronic, so the same issue would apply. I would not be going into such detail/concern about a minor item like this, if you have not even decided/started an RB swap. First decide if you have the money, the will, the expertise and the tenacity to undertake the conversion. This is your major decision to worry about. Speedo cable drive is a long long way down the track.
  16. What the thread is about is that when you use the RB25 gearbox it has an electronic drive for the speedo. If you want to use the original Z speedo then you need a mechanical drive to put in the RB25 gearbox. The part being discussed is a mechanical insert or pinion assembley that will go in the RB25 gearbox from another (Navara) Nissan model. Is that clear.
  17. Nissan Navara is what it is called in Australia, or Model D21 - check with your Nissan parts dealer
  18. For those who are interested I have found a mechanical drive for the gearbox so that you can use the standard 240/260Z speedo when putting in the RB26/25 motor and RB25 gearbox. Pinion Assembley Nissan Navara Model D21 Part No: 3270202G17 A$47.45 incl GST
  19. Hi RBS30 I live in Perth and am doing an RB26 Z (check out my website) The badges you have created are fantastic and something like I want to do but have not been able to obtain in WA. What I am after is a badge to designate the car as a 422T (see my explanation in Part 18 on my website). I have purchased the Fairlady badges for the back and sides of the car to replace the Datsun ones, but now need 3 badges with 432T on them to put under each of the Fairlady badges as on the original 432 (see attached 432 badge) I know this is a big ask but do you have access to some sort of engraver or something and do you think you could make such a badge for me (for money of course) Currently I hve just some individual stick on numbers form Bunnings but they arent really the go. Can you help? regards Mike Rowe
