What don't you have to put back on an RB26?

Matt, sorry to use you as an RB26 encyclopaedia, however out here in Aust there isnt a lot of people to ask. I believe I will be in enough trouble trying to handle the power of a standard GTR motor in my Z from the point of traction etc, and really was just looking for similar to the beautiful smooth 8k engine that my mate has in his GTR, which is basically standard. I want it to be quick but am not going for enormous horsepower, probably 500hp would be perfectly fine I'm sure! As my "perfect engine" (crooked supplier) actually had a cracked block, I had to rebuild it totally, and at the same time to try and aid strength and reliability, built it with forged pistons, rods, N1 bearings, ARP bolts, comp head gasket, ball bearing turbos (but still bottom mount), N1 oil pump, tomei restrictors, accusump,, oil cooler etc. The head however I just had it fully serviced, 3 valves replaced, decked etc, but didnt change the cam, springs, or guides (which I'm a bit worried about now). After all that, my question is - without monster power in mind, will I get around the 450-500rwhp with the standard cam and injectors (I have Apexi Djetro), or do I have to change them and if so, what cam and injectors would you suggest are the best value to do the job? thanks & regards

What don't you have to put back on an RB26?
Mike Rowe replied to strokerzedd's topic in Nissan RB Forum
StrokerZ, I see you have found my site as you've attached my Part 12 above relating to the gearbox mount. I am at the same stage as you with the vaccuum lines wondering where they all go. A friend of mine Warren, sent me a picture out of his R33 GTR Manual which shows where all the lines attach (Collector hoses). This is much better than the R32 GTR Manual I have. As I am going to be running Aircon etc I am not going to remove all the lines at present as vaious people have advised on complications if you are running all the normal components. I am using an Apexi Djetro computer so I am not sure what can go or not so will leave relatively standard although I have removed the AACC pump thingmy. If you want the sheet on weher the lines go let me know if I am not successful in adding it to this post. I will eventually write it all up on my website as well. A question for you - where do you intend to route your two aircleaners for the turbos? regards iCollector hoses.pdf -
Hi, car has not progressed enormously but now have an aluminium radiator for the car and it is about to go in to have all the intercooler pipework fabricated, and the exhaust done, so getting closer! regards

RB26 with RB25DET gearbox - what R200 diff ratio
Mike Rowe replied to Mike Rowe's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Yes that is the confuser, in that the GTR is 4.11, but their gearbox ratios are different. It also looks slightly better with 225/50/16 rather than the 225/55 I used in the graph which actually was incorrect. When I looked at the 100kph speed in 5th with the 3.7 its actually about right around 2100rpm so maybe it will be ok. I do want to have a good standing qtr time though so will have to be in the middle somewhere maybe the 3.9. Joel if you go to this link you can get the graph in imperial as well, just tick the imperial box http://locost7.info/gearcalc.php regards -
I ran some calcs tonite on the current diff which is in the Z - 3.7 and came up with ludicrous speeds ie 351km in 5th gear @ 8000rpm - even with wind resistance and pulling lower revs still a little high dont you think?!! It almost looks like I have to go 4.375 or 4.1 at lowest. What have others used? regards Gear speeds 3.7diff.txt Gear speeds 3.9diff.txt Gear speeds 4.1diff.txt Gear speeds 4.375diff.txt

The original GTR ali radiator is about 1 inch thick so obviously it works for them

Cant see your aircleaners. Where are they routed? regards

Here is the new radiator just sat in for photos. Standard GTR hoses line up, radiator sits perfectly in between the rails and lines up with the original mounting points. Sensor fits to radiator & wiring harness

Not sure what round thingy you refer to? Do you mean the actual round cooler or the bolt thread for the oil filter that comes out the side of the oil cooler fitting? I have attached a photo of the oil filter sandwich plate that allows you to run hoses to a remote cooler and the threaded fitting in the centre that attaches to the filter As you can see I have removed the complete original oil cooler and filter housing

I picked up my custom radiator today and it is excellent quality. I will photograph it tomorrow and post some pics

RB26DETT into 240Z Beginner Progress

This is pretty amazing. What does the software cost? And does it come with a cable that plugs into the cars computer or similar? Can it be used with Apexi? regards -
I am trying to sort my slave cylinders out at the moment so this thread is very timely. The slave cylinder that came with my R32 GTR halfcut is I think for a push clutch and is the same as the one in your photo above. I could get it to line up with the pull clutch (my gearbox is supposed to be R34 RB25DET) but the bleed and feed in were between the gearbox and the slave in other words pointing towards the gearbox which obviously isnt right.(see first photo no bleed or inlet line can be seen) The engine is to the right of the photo so bolts are in a different position to yours Today I went to Nissan and brought a brand new R34 RB25DET slave cylinder (Aust$63) and it is twice as long which surprised me but at least is facing the correct way (see attached photo 4). I havent fitted it to the gearbox yet but will report back. What I can say though is: (1) Your slave cylinder and gearbox photo shows that the gearbox is not an R34 (2) On my GTR halfcut the clutch pedal and master is hooked up to a small booster like on your brakes, which is obviously to lighten the heavy clutch that you are experiencing. I am now wondering whether to try and fit the GTR master and booster?

Thanks Joel, I agree it seems to be a pull If I flip it over it will be facing the wrong way or too low to connect the other way. It's like I need a mirror image of it, maybe there's another slave cylinder to suit? regards -

When I was getting my GTR halfcut (R32) and RB25 gearbox (supposed to be an R34 but could be bulldust) I remember trying to sort this out with the seller and thought I had got the correct clutch slave cylinder, however having had it resleeved, I tried fitting it tonite and it all looks wrong to me. I didnt put the gearbox and the motor together so not sure whether it is push or pull. However looking at the clutch lever and the bolt holes setup on the gearbox I think it must be a pull clutch - the slave cylinder pushes the clutch lever forward which means that it must pull the release bearing backwards? Secondly to get the slave cylinder to line up with the mounting holes and face in the correct direction (forwards) the hose fitting and bleed are between the slave cylinder and the gearbox which cant be right, therefore I also seem to have the wrong slave cylinder (this came with the R32 GTR halfcut)? Can anyone verify from my photos attached: (1) Do I have a pull clutch? (2) Do I have the wrong slave cylinder? -
I believe around $380 Australian. Very good value I think, do you agree? regards

After a couple of attempts in China by his contractor, a local supplier here has been able to manufacture a radiator to suit RB motors into a Z. The radiator is the correct size to fit in between the chassis rails, has the hose outlets top and bottom on the RHS, has the RB fan sensor female fitting, and drain tap. It also has tabs to mount it in the original mounts on the side (but with flexible rubber mounts in between), and also some additional tabs to mount electric fans. Once I have fitted it I will publish some photos. Now that they have got it correct I am sure any future orders will be easy. If anyone wants to order the same one contact: Tak KH Imports [takticz@hotmail.com] Perth W Australia

RB26DETT into 240Z Beginner Progress
Mike Rowe replied to getoffmyinternet's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Regards this, on my 240Z wen I put the Crane (MSD) box on my L28 I also lost my tacho. Through a guy I know he took it to the Electrician who put a board in the back and an extra single wire coming out which attaches to the Crane and wo the tacho works again. I will find out if the same can be done for my 260Z and RB26 motor and advise the result and what he has done.
