Power Locks and alarm systems
lumberjackj replied to Kegworth's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Heres the deal....both of those systems shown are pretty decent...of course I would go with Spal over autoloc since spal seems to be a more "legit" company, but if u look close, most of the parts are the same besides the alarm siren and a few other small aprts... why not get the added convenience of an alarm with power locks instead of just power locks....because with the amount of work your doing to mount and wire the power locks, all it requires is an additional 4 -6 wires for an alarm. You can go with a proven company such as DEI for your alarm....they make alarms such as, Viper, clifford, pyton, or Avital. Personally, I used an Avital for years without any issue. You will need a relay for the locks, but usually Best Buy sells everything you would need....actuators are like $25 each i believe, they wont sell you an alarm without installation usually... heres a good cheap alarm i found quickly on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Avital-3100L-Auto-Alarm-Security-System-NEW-Viper-/250654344111?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5c29c3af#ht_800wt_700 This is something I want to do to the Z to bring some convenience to the classic daily driver, not to mention not have to unlock doors manually anymore and risk scratching the paint. Heres this "how-to" found on a celica forum.... relatively the same procedure...just on your Z http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=304677 good luck! -
that 240z is a real nice find, congrats! cant wait to see the progress!

Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels

My Hayashi Perrier Mesh after a polish and painting on my 240sx.They WERE gold, went silver. They have lost their luster on my Z, but here it is anyway in SF. -
you would be amazed if you knew that a lot of the aftermarket stuff from China (NRG, OBX, etc etc) does not have any "crash testing". Dont get me wrong....i LOVE that seat too, but what i would be worried about is having the back half of the seat snapping off in an accident then the sharp edges left on the bottom portion of the seat will impale your back.... I used to have a MoMo 4 PT harness in my 240sx, got in an accident (lady rear ended me) and i swapped the harness back to the stock one because a few people i spoke with had told me that the at fault parties' insurance company may not pay for my medical costs due to non DOT approved safety equipment. Just something to remember....out here in California theres more retarded drivers then just a little bit....probably 9 out of 10 drivers NEED to be reevaluated for their licence....

oh god thats horrible....outta all the people passing by and taking pictures ....NOBODY has a fire extinguisher... theres nothing worse then watching your pride and joy burn up before your eyes....

this is where im at now...I bought my lovely 1/1974 260z from the original owner...approx 50 year old lady...and its been painted a few times, and yes its got rusty floor pans too....but theres nothing more amazing then listening to the stories shes got with her Z. Telling me how much she loves it and about how its been to the east coast and back twice....and I wouldnt even want to attempt that with the 4 speed thats in it...holy cow... And not to mention the cars history.... receipts dating back to the early 80s....able to tell you reasons for painting the car and stuff that you would never know otherwise...may be useless knowledge for some, but adds to the cars history and timeline in my opinion. SO yeah, looking back, I may have paid a little much for the car, but its a champ, has NEVER let me down....and I hope in the next few years when I get the car completed, I could show the original owner all the hard work and dedication I put into her old rusty 260z and brought it back to BETTER then showroom condition....thanks to all the guys here at HybridZ!!

HAHAHA, was waiting for someone to say something.....the stock knob was stripped out and I had this newer Prelude knob floating around so I made an adapter from the Datsun threads to the Honda threads and put the Honda knob on, its a little tall, but im a big guy and was finding myself reaching for the stock knob at times. Itll change soon enough....thinking either this knob http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=18497 or this http://www.speedelement.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2458&category_id=139&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=38

Its so cheap and also offers a good "cushion" to the handle. Ive been using it for about a week now and love it! grretc-from the bay area huh? Cant find many bay area meets for Z's, or datsuns for that matter....any ideas?

I was thinking about a way to cover the ugly scratched up e-brake handle and couldn't find any ideas.....so this is what I came up with... http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-REPLACMNT-Handle-Grips-for-RAZOR-SCOOTER-Black-FOAM_W0QQitemZ370332147237QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5639841e25 $5 shipped All you do is slide it over the existing handle and done! I think it came out good for $5....and I also have an extra one incase it rips or something!

I have ordered 25 feet of part number 1120A33 from McMaster-Carr. This was the part number that was suggested a couple of months ago. The description of the item is as follows: Push-On Edge-Trim Rubber Seal Bulb Opposite Grabber, 3/16" Edge, 5/8" Bulb Width It was about $33 shipped. Install was a little time consuming as the edge grip is tight and a little small, but i am satisfied 100%

Its VERY hard to convince a large company like daystar to mess with a few hundred units for a car that is considered "historical".... BUT, give it a try, wouldnt hurt. Im still VERY MUCH considering making these, but dont have much time right now since were busy with a lot of other projects. If I could get someone to draw it up in solidworks, that would be GREAT. Just to give you guys a taste of some CNC porn.

Theres a few companies out there that make similar style gauges that "black out" when off....mostly cheap knockoffs.... if anyone has any first hand experience with these, it would be great to hear it
-
I have a 1/74 260z and im doing all autometer phantom gauges. 2 5/8 fit well in the top pods and I customized my center console and removed the switches under the radio and made a pod for 3-2 1/16 (oil press, water temp, volts) again autometer. I removed my Tach because it didnt work when I got it, but plan on 5 inch tach and speedo. Now for the turn signals....since ive lived without them for a few months (removed tach) I have since installed a "LOUD" turn signal indicator, which in my opinion is not loud at all....but I CAN hear it over my exhaust at lights which helps....My plan is to put 2 LEDs in the steel grill/heater finisher plate under the windshield ...one LED for BOTH signals that will flash when either of the signals are on, and another thats blue for high beams. Hope to get some pics in the upcoming weeks.. Nice accurate digital gauges are lots of money.....look for Defi gauges also....wouldnt hurt to SEARCH....theres a lot of info on this topic

These boom mats made by DEI help a lot with keeping moisture away from the speaker, as well as adding a small enclosure to get better response from the speaker. Enjoying the progress! Really like your interior!
