  1. with trailer it's not gonna be much fun..i towed my z from durango to denver...z weight around 2500lbs, trailer weight was 2000lbs (both wheels off the ground) and towed with my 04 xterra rated at 185hp 210lbft. had a class 3 hitch. it was hard for the xterra (full frame, solid axle, more power), i couldn't imagine a civic recreational vehicle CRV doin the job...not to mention the safety aspect.
  2. been workin on seperating the rear quarters i picked up...i got one side off, still need to finish the rocker before i can begin the plug weld all the holes drilled out from the spot welds...i will be welding the highest portion of the inner fender straight out to meet the quarter panel. start taking the lower rocker dogleg area apart...to use on the 72. i'm gonna media blast and por15 these pieces and then reinstall and weld in place. inner rocker where seatbelt mounts, lower portion destroyed on the 72..will be using this to repair here is the inner dog leg area...it's the part seen from the inside...and gets sandwiched between the inner and outer rocker panel. i've learned a lot over the years tinkerin with the old z....i should have it reassembled and look factory...without a spec of rust.
  3. i went 2 years ago when it was here...always a good time. i took a few pics and videos with my cell phone. this guy was nuts...he was drug behind this jet car...he was literally layin on the ground. the car ran like a 6.6 @ 260ish mph video some pretty impressive wheel stands video video video it was a pretty good time...always fun smellin the race fuel and tire smoke.
  4. i had my 73 stolen and the front end was lit on fire after it stopped running. i took in NADA and the guy is paying restitution to the tune of $10,000, this was back in 2003. i'm still receiving payments.
  5. i just cut some up and hauled them to the metal recyclers.
  6. hey bobby when would be a good time to get those parts

  7. i'm actually talking to a machine shop to have brackets machined so i can bolt up my z32 rear calipers...haven't quite moved to the front yet...nice aluminum calipers...only downfall is the e-brake....it'd have to be a line lock.
  8. congrats man! my wife and i had our second..a little girl on june 14....they are a blast...enjoy every minute, drop what you are doing when they call your name so you can watch.... and don't assume you can see it later...i'm workin on this...they grow up so fast!
  9. we talked before..i'm in littleton...southern part of denver...and sadly my z is no where near mobile.
  10. i have seen some pics of early zs that don't have the store area....the cut off was sometime between like 70 and 71 i think. prior to those dates there weren't any storage areas.
  11. i've been messing with zs now for about 10 years...since i got my first one at 17. story started with an 81zxt which i wrecked. i had a friend with a 73 with a blown motor...i picked up the shell for a few hundred dollars and swapped the motor in. i drove that for a few years as it would allow, and finally parked and started working on it in jan 06. i had been working on it off and on for the last 4 years, i think it drug out so long because there was so much wrong with it. it had been rear ended at some point and it rippled the back floor, stolen (while i had it) and then lit on fire, FD crushed the firewall prying the hood open. every part of the undercarrage had been used as a jack point, PO installed flares, but cut the inner and outer fender apart, it was cut too far and used some tar paper to fill the gap. sometimes i would just stare and it to form a plan of attack on some of the parts...i have some nice parts and i want the whole package to be equally as nice...and i didn't think that chassis would give it to me. i came across an ad on CL for 72 parts..i thought i'd snag some to repair my z. well it ends up the kid bought the car to drift..it had rust..and he couldn't weld...so i picked it up for $240. it had good glass, a nice interior, a hatch full of extra parts, and the rust was just in all the "normal" areas. i dropped all the parts off the 73 and scrapped the shell, minues a few parts id use for patches on the new z, and the roof and couple other little parts i gave to proxlamus. most of that time down was spent fixing parts that will easily swap into the 72. the z is running a l28et, bored .080 over and forged SDS6f with coil packs for fuel and spark powdercoated underneath with GC coilover, sectioned tubes with MR2 front struts and TTT camber plates. low pressure pump into a hand built surge tank and walbro feeding the engine. all SS braided line. no more fuel cell, PITA to lift the hatch and fill. surge tank will work with the stock tank..i'm keepin it this time. holset hx35 turbo (will prob change) and offcourse all the little pieces required to make it all work SVT 42lb hr injectors greddy boost controller autometer gauges z32 trans adapter (need z32 tranny!) pallnet fuel rail aeromotive FPR AN fittings throughout i'm pulling everything out of the engine bay, i will be repainting it the original 918 orange...engine bay will be a single stage i will be beefing these up anyway. battery tray was good on the 73...saved it to patch this. old z, i know some people will think i'm crazy...but this one is honestly in much better condition. i don't have to deal with PO fixes. i got some new rear quarters from a 260z, i will use parts from that to patch this area, it's literally the side of the car since the panel was cut on the inside up through the wheel well...that area was rust free on the 260z..im doing both sides. rear suspension the seams at the rear roll pan had rust, as did the orignal quarter fender lips. as i cut the lips off i saw rust up inside...it appears this car was not dipped after assembly. so i blasted the area clean and por15 it all, also applied weld through primer where i will be reattaching the quarter. i will be welding to the inner panel so it will go out straight to meet the outer fender where i will attach the fiberglass flares. same with the rear roll pan area..this had some surface rust...blasted and por15ed 4x4 stance the parts that are going in. i will be putting in camber plates. i used the top hats to mount them on the 73 so i could roll it. for now i will be putting in a lot of my time to get all my parts back in and car solid. theres not much money for the z now,but i did manage to get all the parts i needed over the last few years to pretty much complete the build.
  12. i had that issue...it was rear wheel bearings.
  13. the inner portion has the indent for the indent on the quarter for the bumper on 240/260 quarters, and as you said the door jam area is different. depending on the year 240...it might not have the vent behind the quarter where the emblem goes. and a minor part is the rear roll pan...the 260/280 hve the bumper support coming through the roll pan so it has the holes...if it's on a 240 you will have to do a little metal work to fil those in and have the little lip the rear roll pan sits in and is spot welded to.
  14. I used some from autozone....the taper was larger than the hex portion...it used a 19mm....but I did go to splined recently ....I've used them on ny subaru for a while and really like them.
  15. From experience....popping the hatch every time you get gas is absolutely no fun.
  16. if it were my car...and everything else was straight...i would pull the crack flush and weld it up...then put a plate over that and weld it up.
  17. iphone 4g definately taking some heat....it's a neat device if it weren't for AT&T...althought i don't think much of the 4g...miscalculated reception indication as well as having the hold the phone a special way, because holding it the same way you hold every other phone...is incorrect.
  18. i don't think it's steel...but shouldn't be that hard to repair...if he's set on keeping those then it might be cheapter to fix.
  19. hey bobby whats your number i could use your opinion on some things

  20. this thread is almost 5 years old. i don't even think thumper has a z anymore..or atleast not a l28et
  21. i've been reading online for a couple hours now...i'm going to be painting some polyurethane pieces...some people have said to prime, other to use an adhesion promoter, and others to just scuff and paint. the paint line up i have has a flex agent already mixed in. these are new bumpers out of the mold with nothing on them. the bumpers now seem to have nothing on them but paint...they aren't flaking and it seems adhesion was good. thanks!
