  1. my buddy picked me up today to go 4wheelin in hollister. We get there, no biggie, several jeep grand cherokees prepping to go out on the trails, airing down tires, disconnecting sway bars, etc. We're waiting for several more people, and this, of course, is a story of the friend of a guy who's about to show up. So the guy we're waiting for pulls up with his buddies following behind him. Two toyota pickups, one is the old school 83-4 toyota 4x4 with the 4 cyl. engine, dual live axles, and is beat to **** (one of the tires is actually flat like a slick). The other is a newer tacoma 4x4 with a v6 and independent front suspension. Let's jump back to the first beat up toyota. The kid hops out (looks about 16-17) with his friend, and they're start prepping for offroading. The truck is beat to crap , but then again, this is perfect for such conditions in case you hit or scrape something - not much of a loss there. I am walking up with another guy named Ryan to the truck. We both see fluid seeping out from the front of the car, and Ryan points to the puddle under the truck and asks the kid "So, do you need that?" The kid says "oh, it's no big deal. Our biggest problem was my CB wiring got fried, and we had to pull it out because it started smoking." Of course, the genius had the wiring running over a radioshack 28 gauge (really thin) wire straight from the battery's positive terminal. And no fuse in line. Meanwhile I am looking under the truck, and it reeks of gas. I touch the liquid - yup, it's gas. I tell him he's leaking gas all over the front axle, transfer case, springs, brakes, etc. He opens the hood, and lo and behold - the fuel filter is spraying fuel out! I look at the hole, and it's not a crack or puncture - it's a BURN!!!!!! The wire was running over the filter, and it melted through. I am surprised the kid was so lucky the filter didn't f#cking explode and his car didn't catch on fire from the amount of gas he leaked all over the front half of his ******* truck! I told him to jbweld it, or to run it straight into the carb without the filter, go get a replacement filter in town, and put it in. The kid took half of my advice = jb welded it, and decided to go offroading. I haven't seen him since, but... that was quite stupid. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4291782345
  2. hey hey hey, watch it with neon comments

  5. That dude is SERIOUSLY old school!
  6. http://www.babybuy.bigstep.com/generic12.html this video is freakin' hilarious, you guys HAVE to watch it! it's just.... man, whoever conan o'brien's producers are, they're geniuses. Along with Conan and the masturbating bear. That video is priceless, next up I'll see if I can find triumph the dog vs. bon jovi tour
  7. there were some discussions earlier on phantom grip lsd being used, cost factor vs. reliability factors (ie. most stuff that's cheap = not good). I was perusing neons.org, and one of the guys that has a 10 second turbo neon (he's the one videotaping) posted a video they shot of another guy's turbo stage 4 neon with phantom grip. It runs low 11s (one shown in the vid clip) http://homepage.mac.com/ndseat/imovies/iMovieTheater2.html notice that there's no clutch drop, it's all throttle from the burnout. I know of several other folks running phantom grip LSD in their neons without any problems - it's a great bang for the buck to get an lsd for under 300 bucks.
  8. we had a clubsi outing last night, and I drove a friend's '00 Si with header, intake, exhaust, typeR ecu, cams, and couple of other things. suspension was really nice = 24 way adjustable tien shocks on coilovers. he changed his vtec engage point to 6k instead of 5500, and i admit, his car started pulling quite nicely and had a nice melodeous tone to it, instead of the usual fart pipe
  9. just a newsflash for the "purist". You don't have much of a "nissan" engine in a 240z to start with, since the straigh 6 2.4 happens to be a MERCEDES motor. That's right, blueprinted and created after the 60s series of mercedes L-motors, aluminum head, iron block, ohc, the works. Nissan licensed the motor from mercedes and just reproduced it.
  10. I just had a crazy idea of swapping my motorcycle mirrors onto the Z. For some reason I think it might look ok, so tomorrow or the following day I'll see what a test fit will look like and take pics. If anyone's interested and likes the look, replica mirrors for crotchrockets go for about $50 a pair tops.
  11. well, a good friend of mine is sending me his spare rim from maryland, and i've ordered a replacement tire already
  12. police report has been filed, I have TWO sets of different wheel locks on the car now, so it'll be more of a hassle for htem. Not to mention that my paranoid ass just made 'rounds' through the complex. let's just say i was 'armed'. Anxiety isn't letting me sleep tonight, and coca cola stocks will go up
  13. I had stock r/t rims on the car. 14x6 5 spoke alloy wheels. I would never think that someone would go after stealing 14" rims!
  14. weight reduction by taking my front left wheel and leaving me with a honda jack holding up my car for irony. They even took the ******* lugnuts so I can't mount the spare donut on.
  15. does anyone want to hook me up with a copy? please!?
  16. in stock form it makes peak hp at 5800 rpm, if i recall correctly
  17. 305hp and 300ft lbs of torque, 9.85:1 compression
  18. checked your steering rack bushings? If they're shot, this could be a good reason to change them out to PU ones. MSA sells them for 11 bucks I think. Just a suggestion
  19. this thread got me really thinking about doing the sr20det swap instead of hte LT1. I love high revving engines (neon revlimits me to 7600, where the power exists, and the crotchrocket which has 13k redline), but the question is...has anyone on this board done this swap? how feasable is it? Should seem a tad easier with more room available - only shortcomings are figuring out hte best radiator (camaro one would probably still work) and fabbing custom mounts for the motor and tranny. 4.11 gears probably wouldnt hurt?
  20. Hm, I was up late typing that message, so I should rephrase that the car's not really stock weight SNAFU on my part. I took off the smogpump, there's no A/C on it, it has an r200 rear diff (about 20lbs heavier than r180), heavier toyota calipers (maybe 4lbs per caliper), heavier 300zx vented rotors, and a 1" front sway bar (maybe 2lbs more than stock).
  21. also forgot the r200 differential! the original weight was probably 2400lbs even.
  22. and the weight of the bone stock component 1973 240z with an l24 engine and 4 speed without driver is 2,427 lbs. thing slightly offsetting the weight are the new rotors and calipers (toyota 4 runner + 300zx vented rotors)
