I think i saw him run his first day with the turbo, because he was working on the launch technique - he started out with 12 sec passes, and by the time i left (at 9, grudge match was until 11pm) he was clocking out at 8.98. He probably got even better. There was also what looked like a white datsun b210 with a smallblock that made low 12 sec passes

and you ride a hayabusa... you're definitely a freak ever seen the turbocharged one with the extended swingarm run passes at sacramento raceway?

So today I yanked out the gas tank on my 240 so I could replace the cracked fuel lines and such. I've pulled datsun tanks before, so this wasn't a complicated procedure. However, the complication came that the tank i've removed before had new lines and mounts, not everything being 30 years old as it is on my car. My fuel lines were so gone and dry that they stuck to the metal pipes on the gas tank. When I pulled out, I noticed that one of the return line (i think that's it) metal connectors could somewhat freely travel up and down a little bit. It looks like a somewhat tight seal, but I'm uncertain. Does anyone know if I need to get this welded, or if this is normal? The other one doesn't move, but it looks like a swivel was integrated into the design...unless it's a rivet-style plug that came loose? Someone help me out and hopefully save me money! (being unemployed is showing its limitations). I've included a picture with detailed outlines of what's going on... copy/paste url into a browser window, imagestation doesn't allow direct linking. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid5/p8990e713ac725c5e8bbdcab0516a8ba7/fde2af09.jpg.orig.jpg pardon the gas tank being filthy...the picture was shot 5 minutes after i took it out of the car. thanks a lot!

phantom grip is a pretty good alternative to something like quaiffe by price comparison. the unit is sturdy, but definitely not designed to withstand metric buttloads of power. on a lightly to moderately modified car it should serve well without any major issues. I've known several people who have used them in neons, and they have nothing but praises. For the neon, the unit retails for about 280. Just my 2 cents. I do know that my friend's neon dynoed 197hp/150tq @ wheels has a phantom grip, and it has made over 100 passes at the strip, clocking out 13.5 sec runs on an n/a neon

3250 for manual tranny, 3300 for auto

Nah, that's BS. At least until one of the guys releases it on video so we can see for ourselves. The guy I was talking to was standing right there, and said Hennessey was the one winning (unfortunately).

I was talking to a buddy of mine from texas the other day... and turns out that hennessey got into a brawl at a local star bucks with a member from f-body.org who was trying to stir up a fight because of the recent bad rap that hennessey got. They should have a video of it up soon. personally, i think hennessey is a joke. What you guys didn't see is the earlier post on corvetteforums. Hennessey posts on the forums himself, and he claimed he would take the administrator/owner of corvette forums to court because of slandering and defamation of character. now, in my opinion, the stupidest thing any business associate could do is start a verbal fight on an internet message board that everyone and their mother can see. You can be that thread went around clubsi.com, riceboypage.com, corral.net, basically any import/domestic board that exists and has a large collection of users...it was seen by thousands of people. Talk about getting yourself negative publicity : even if he cleans up his act, he won't get any business

replacing mustache bar bushings??
auxilary replied to z ya's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Here's a visual of how I got mine out! Once you burn them out, and scrape most of the remaining rubber away, the new ones can be pressed in by hand. Don't forget to add the ES bushing grease (should come with the bushings). Oh, and don't remove that metal "eye" that holds the stock bushings in - it needs to stay in. New bushings are about 30 bucks - I got mine from strictlyz.com (Kyle and Yuichi) http://strictlyz.com/?page=shop/browse&category_id=124&ps_session=ac4a6e5418fd16ee8b842cf9b20adcc6 -
I have to agree with Miles - sometimes those methods just DON'T WORK. I tried everything on that brake removal link, and none of it worked for me. Mine was frozen on, wouldn't come off with heat (15 minutes of propane torch), hammer, sledge hammer, grinding, etc. Shoe release switch didn't do anything, and the parking brake was off. I wound up dropping the whole strut assembly, removing it with the disk brake, taking an impact gun to the stub axle nut (27 mm socket, i believe), and then just whacking it with a sledge to get the drum off. It was frozen shut wit rust.

I just picked up a freebie 5 speed out of a mark 1 280z (at least i hope it's a 5 speed - it measured longer than the 4 speed next to it!). Now, question is this: do I need to replace the drive shaft? The difference between the 4 speed and 5 bellhousing/shifter end is about 1.75-2 inches in length. Can I use a stock '73 240 driveshaft without repositioning anything? Still new to stock datsun internals on some levels, and I picked this up for practicing installing a tranny, since all stock internals will eventually go away to be replaced by a chevy combo. Thanks, -alex

DavyZ and I went to pick up some spare parts from zya's father (Arnold) who happens to have a v8z himself, and may I say, it's a very well done job. We stood there drooling at the car for quite some time. Then I wiped my slobber off my chin and grabbed the camera. It's a JTR conversion, suspension work is about to be done as well (coilovers to fit larger tires). Davy will do a better write up when he sees this, I'm sure, since I'm in somewhat of a hurry but wanted to share the pictures: Edit: imagestation won't let me directly link pictures anymore, so here's the link: Click me for all of the pictures!

HEY! Another local fremont guy. that makes 3 so far. Dando's automotive across from the NUMI plant can do a really good job - but chances are they'll be more expensive than other places. They're on Fremont blvd, right off 880/fremont exit. The owner's andy craig - you can give him a call and he's usually very helpful over with just regular tips and datsun issues. Another place to try it Fremont Hitch Weld & Muffler shop. 37400 Joseph St Fremont, CA 94536 (510) 792-4708 The exhaust guy has a 260Z himself (it's orange) and they may do the weld ins for you - the shop has lifts, sandblasters, welders, bending machines, etc. His name's ron, see if he can help you out. (they're closed mondays though)

He only ran twice - I missed it both times. First time was before I got to the track, and second time was when I was talking to my friend in the parking lot towards the end of the day, behind the bleachers. I heard a loud BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP that made my soda can shake like in jurassic park, and looked up to see the 9.8@145mph flash on the board. Then I saw him pull off into the pits and down to the flat bed the car was brought on. Then it was loaded up and driven away. -

It seems to be fairly correct - the distributor was touching the firewall - I don't think you can go back farther than that without cutting the firewall (probably not a good idea, especially on THAT car) -
I saw this guy today at Sacramento Raceway - he participated in the california modified import winter warm ups. Wouldn't you know it - the fastest import there was a chevy powered datsun! I talked with the owner - he did everything from scratch - and doesn't know of hybridz.org nor JTR! (of course, I told him to check out our site and see if he can contribute wealth of knowledge). This sucker dynoes 800 RWHP, is a 454 chevy big block w. a roots blower (i forgot to ask what it is) and the rest is pretty much obvious. He ran 9.8@145mph, and it didn't look like he was pushing it. Hopefully we'll see the owner on the boards soon!

if you're replacing with oem-sized parts parts (ie. not coilovers where you have to modify the perches, etc), it's so simple even i could do it. you'll need a spring compressor (10 bucks for a pair from www.harborfreight.com , they're cheap, but you'll only need them once), and maybe a speed bleeder if you decide to disconnect the brake lines when removing the strut assembly. there'll be 3 14mm bolts on top of each strut mount holding it to the strut tower. I am pretty sure you can move the struts out of the way enough without having to disconnect them from the lower balljoints on the control arm...but if that's necessary, 2 bolts hold them in on the front control arms, and 2 more bolts hold the trailing arm if it doesn't flex down far enough for you to take out the strut assembly.

that looks fantastic! What size tires are those? They look gigantic! 275s?
