  1. The AVS intermediates cost me 64/tire for 195/60/14, these falkens i picked up for 52/each with free shipping. counting install costs, it's under 300 total for me, which is a great deal. and it's true, yokohama is getting rid of the avs intermediate line. they're supposed to be bringing a new replacement, but you can still get avs intermediates from places like tirerack.com
  2. actually, just checked msa catalog - 41.99
  3. stock was 175/75/14 and later changed to 195/70/14, i think. going off the 195/70/14 measurement, 205/65/14 will give you the least amount of speedo difference. but can you fit 205/60 on a 14x5 mag?
  4. changing from yokohama avs intermediates to falken azenis sport tires. somehow, i managed to squeeze out 28k miles from the yokohama tires, even though they're rated for 15k, not to mention I REALLY don't play nice in the car - it gets romped around corners, drifts, and has been through 2 thunderhill events on those tires. Poor neon is getting new tires!
  5. not winding out an rx7? hahahh! oh man, that's funny... when i drive my friend's gtus, there's no power whatsoever until 6krpm. period. until i hear that BZZZZZZZZZT coming from the dash, I ain't shifting!
  6. you're looking at a balancing plate that weighs about 15 lbs. It's attached on the bottom of the front rear diff crossmember. mounted on top of the front reardiff crossmember is (if you're looking from the bottom) is a metal case that looks like a U from the side, and it's filled with rubber. When the rubber breaks or tears, your differential clunks every time it twists from the rotational force. Because there's no mount properly securing it and dampening the shock. solution is to get a new mount. they're 50-60 bucks from MSA, i think
  7. Nah, believe me, I don't take it personally. That's why the neon is the daily beater, the bike is for some speed, and the Z is a project car for a track bitch and weekend pleasure cruiser (don't know how well that's going to work since the car's going to be more jittery than a pinto with broken springs). Initially I just got offended because the common consensus is that all honda drivers are ricers. My neon falls in the same category, and the stripes were part of the r/t (you know, mopar's road/track) package. ie. my car's built for autox and commute, not the strip Believe it or not, there are some fast hondas, as for that integra I can vouch: it's not 'friend of a friend of a friend' because a. i've been in it, b. i've seen it run at the strip (but didn't have my camera at the time. A little '90 civic hatch or a CRX have very light chassis, and swapping engines from other hondas is a cinch compared to a v8 swap into a Z. It's all drop in/bolt in, no fabrication required since all the mounts are in the identical location, etc. I've seen 2.2 liter vtec prelude motors in those hatches... and a 2200lb car with 195hp/150 tq stock isn't too bad, and if you add the typical breather mods and cams/camshafts and tune it right, might even squeeze that number out to the wheels. just keep in mind that the car's original intent has and always will be an econobox
  8. hah! can't even call me rice - it's a domestic
  9. you know, not every honda owner is automatically a ricer. I drive a neon with racing stripes. what does that make me?
  10. To answer the question of whether street driven 11 second hondas exist... yes, they do. I've taken a ride in a 450 whp turbocharged integra gsr with the LS (beefier) transmission. This was also the owner's daily driver. We got on the street, he got on the onramp, and by the time we got on the freeway, his speedo was [accurately] reading 118mph. This thing didn't have a feeling of high torque, but definitely could relate to my bike. In fact, it felt just about as fast. on the freeway, he hit about 150, and then let off because our exit was coming up. let's just say we got to where we were going very very quickly. Last I recall he ran 12.2 at sacramento raceway on street tires, with MAJOR traction issues. I do recall him snapping front axles on occasion... those occasions happened very often! unfortunately, he parted out the turbo components, returned the car to mostly stock condition and sold it. I hear he was looking into getting a GN
  11. well, fortunately, I was able to tap the new threads in in the same pitch, and use the stock bolt - so now the control arm is secure on the driver's side. downside for today - screwed up threading from previous owner on hte rear spindles that hook up to the half shafts - now i have to get those new 27mm nuts for htem, and hopefully everything's ok
  12. Installed the r200, hooked up the driveshaft, diff mount, control arms, etc. Guess what? 3 bolts for the front rear diff crossmember go in ok, but no, the 4th one has to be the difficult one that's stripped on the inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if I can tap it out, and if I do, i might have to go a bolt larger. more PITA, and i am not sure if i can make the rio vista with my own car now.
  13. I finally splurged and got the lightened flywheel for it
  14. no problem. same thing happened when my friend was getting bridgestone s02s put on his 328i at wheelworks. we were walking by, and i caught the guy putting the wrong wheel on the car.
  15. that looks great, but i have a question Is it me, or is the tread pattern backwards on the rear wheel?
  16. you guys know, we already have an explanation for this phenomenon on the other boards
  17. gotta upload it to a webserver where it can be hosted... ie. www.imagestation.com registration is free, and unlimited space, but you can't link full resolution pictures...but you can link albums
  18. goddamnit I want one of those! ok, 2, since there's a pair of brakes. But I can't afford it right now, maybe later down the road
  19. "Well, that's no ordinary rabbit. That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on." "It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a 1 pound coconut." Anything by D.I. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket, and of course, Army of Darkness...
  20. Heh, I see Mr. Howard has finally registered a user account and posted here! Great to see you here, Don! Now, how about you go find yourself a nice 240z? It'd give you a good reason to come out to california again, and you got a truck to tow it back! ps. i'm NOT planting evil ideas in your head. You dreamt those up yourself - i was simply pondering what a Z could be like with a mopar block!
  21. 160* thermostat is your problem. my buddy and i just had a discussion on this, and what's happening is your thermostat opens up when the temp reaches 160*, purging the coolant from the radiator. To attempt to maintain 160* temp, it basically leaves your thermostat open, allowing water to flow through constantly without getting a chance to fully cool down in the radiator. maybe a 180* thermostat, and maybe you may want to invest in a better radiator. But try the $6 thermostat changeout first. Also, get a more powerful alternator that allows more current than the existing weak one so your fan can run high speed without killing the car.
