yea, I wasn't sure about the oil, but the manual for the tools says thats the best way. I guess if you have two hoses, one for paint and the other for tools that would be ok. I'm gonna get some of that rustoleum paint and mineral spirits to test my gun with. I'm just gonna use one air/moisture filter because i'm not gonna paint anything special to test it the first time. I just want to get comfortable with the gun and get it dialed in with the best pressure.

yea, even my 26 gal has a 5 hp (2 real hp). So you'll be real happy if you get a 5 hp motor on that tank. Make sure you get a dual cylinder pump for that size tank to.

Thats funny, I was just reading the JTR manual today and was thinking about these same things. The more u read it, if your not into racing or appearence of the engine bay, the scarab position won't really affect anything other than a slight notice of heavy steering at very low speeds like parking, and even the author of the manual said it's very slight. The scarab would be a easier swap for a novice like me, thats why I'm considering it. It has alot less little mod's and things you have to deal with along the way. The Scarab was used with mostly t350 trans anyway back when it was made right? It's only like a 1.3% wieght difference from the JTR and Scarab position, thats like moving the battery to the back (as the author said)

a good 5hp motor should be about $100-$150 new. You could probably find a used one for cheap. I just wanna know who would put a 1/2 hp on a 120 gal..lol...must take forever to fill. I have a 26 gal but i'm looking into adding a extra tank to it to make it about 80 gal (just gotta find the right deal on a old tank someone has sitting around). Great deal, just make sure ur pump is also made to handle more hp if you get a bigger motor.

that title is somthing else...lol

sounds like a good idea, i'm going there tomorrow to spend the rest of that gift card so i'll look around for that. Do you guys use a in-line lubricator for the tools or just a air filter and moisture collector?

Thanks for that info ^, it's my first compressor so i'm just learning all the simple stuff, lol. I think i got it down, i'll let it buildup to 135psi and see if it automatically cuts off, and than see if it kicks back on to maintain 90psi for the tool.... All the tools i got are around 5-6 cfm which is perfect for my compressor. I'm going back to get a nice electric 4-1/2" ginder today and get some cut-off disc for that because as much as i love this compressor, i think it's better to get a nice electric grinder since i have a smaller compressor. I can't wait to test my paint gun out to, no more rattle cans!

do a search on google for "how to fiberglass", it brought up ALOT of helpful stuff to read through.

yea, it was definently rusty water ^. I took apart every hose fitting, gauges, and regulator and put new teflon tape on all the connections, and there was alittle buildup of crud in there so i cleaned that out, but i'm sure the tank has some goo in it at the bottom. Can i just take off the valve at the bottom and spray a hose up there and wash it out with water, than buildup pressure and let it out the bottom to kinda dry it out? And i figured out how to regulate the pressure in the line. It was pretty simple, I just didn't let the tank buildup enough pressure to do it right the first time. And impact wrench's are nice! lol, i was busting up my knuckles trying to get a bolt loose on my saw and one pull of the trigger on that thing and the bolt came right off..lol... Once i get setup better, i'll look into that copper pipe to route it around the garage. There is one thing i can't figure out yet without the manual. When i click the compressor on with the auto switch it builds up pressure, but how do i set it to where i want the compressor to kick in at? I want it to kick back on when the pressure gets down to about 80psi, can i do that? sorry about the long post...lol

I think those wheels are Enkei or somthing like that. Very nice setup, should get about $6-8k with the upgrades and the right buyer.......

That southpark episode was funny...I knew the name world of warcraft, but until that southpart episode i didn't know what it was all about. I have a playstation 2 but it just collects dust now. Grand theft auto San Andreas was the Sh*%, but i'd rather work on my bike or somthing than play video games anymore. The only online game I played was that socom army game, that was kinda fun for awhile..

I drained the liquid out today like you siad. It was a dark red color, is that just from the compressor not being used for a year? Should i buy one of those inline air filters between the gauge's and the tool to get rid of the moisture in the line? Home depot didn't have a manual on hand for my compressor, so i'll have to order one from the company so i can figure out how to regulate the air in the line, because i can't figure out how to hold it at 60psi max in the line for some tools... I used part of my gift card from homedepot and got a air tool kit with Impact wrech, die grinder, sander, paint gun, and hammer for $60 and they work great. I gotta go back and get a nice 4-1/2" grinder and get some cut-off wheels for it.

here's that program to download youtube videos http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

yea, i think that sticker came with the performance upgrade it has... ;-D i have a question though, the air filter has blueish dust around it and on the pump (from the air filter). Is that just the cleaning agent in the filter, probably time to change it right? And i can hear alittle water in the tank, do i just let all the air out, then open the valve at the bottom and let it drain? (i'll try to get a manual from homedepot eventually for this model so i don't have to ask all these questions). Thanks

theres a program u can get so u can download any video on youtube, google, and yahoo. I'll try to find the download for it.

I've been searching around at home depot, lowes and the local classifieds and finally found somthing good for me. I picked this up for $100 tonight. The guy i got it from bought it brand new last year from home depot.. The model sells for $379+tax. Husky VT6315, same as the campel hausfeld one. Should be just right for painting and running the tools i need. I won't be using it enough to justify spending alot on a huge compressor, plus this is pretty big and it's just a 26 gal. Now it's time to hit up harbor freights to test there air tool quality...here's some pics...

yea thats what i was thinking. For the cost of the chevy swap (mounts, dist, driveshaft, ujoints, sending units, exhaust, radiator, hoses) i could get a nice setup for $2000 with a v8 and have alot more power. I don't really know how to deal with tuning turbo's or fuel injection for that matter, so I think a carb'd v8 is the way for me. I'm gonna search on here for someone local who has a v8 Z that would let me check it out.
-
Thanks for the input so far. I like the fact about parts being so available for 350's, i wish someone close had a v8z I could test drive. There's always lt1's for sale for like $1000 around here, and a shop here has crate 350's for $1200. Doesn't it cost like $2000 to rebuild a l28 to have some nice power compared to one of those crate 350's?
-
lol, i know right? I just know that two of my friends have Z's with l28's, one built, and the other completely stock, and they both seem to have problems constantly and it puts them in a bad mood about the car.... I guess i'm just trying to settle what i want to do once and for all, because i've gone back and forth lately. Eventually I want a 350-400hp car, but I'm realistic, I need to start somewhere low to begin with, and work my way up. I'll probably buy my friends dads 77 chevy pickup with a great running 350 with 70k miles and a bad rusty body for $300, put it in a Z, see how well it pushes it, and then spend $800 or so bringing it back to life with a intake, head work, pistons/rings, maybe just rebuild the carb. I'll definently need help with that stuff. I just want to get as many opinions about the two engines so I can make the right choice the first time around. 100% street driven, not full daily driver, more recreational driving in the mountains and city, but want it to have power for anything. $1000-$2000 for the engine. 350 or l28?
-
LOL! I know huh? I can't imagine why someone would want to sell it....
-
I have two questions I want to put in this thread. First, list what engine and trans you have, and then I want to see how comfortable you would be driving your Z long distance. I know there are alot of factors in a reliable engine, but i'm starting to lean towards a first gen 350 for overall reliability and power in a 100% street driven Z. Second, I want to do this just to get everyone's opinion. If you had two engines in indentical shape, one a L28, and a 350. They both are driven the exact same way, which engine would last longer? I know it might be a wierd thread, but I think the extra cost of swapping in a good 350 would save alot in the long run, because everyone I talk to say the l28's are very tempermental and not that reliable for a daily driver, if you want it to start everytime in cold weather, and not let you down and still have enough power.

i know u already have silver, but it's my favorite color on a Z.

i looked like the smoke after nasa launches one of there rockets...lol

i'll quote him ^

i guess what i mean is they can still make economical cars that look better. They don't have to look so boring and round, lol. It's just like the music nowdays, and tv, everythings the same, nobody wants to try somthing new
