I think nobody is hearing this guy right.... i think he is saying he is using a points distributor. In the case of a points distributor the stock 240 tach should work if wired properly..yes? I used a points dist for a short while but never could get the stock tach to work but maybe i was doing something wrong.
-
It might.. check to see if the ring gear has 153 teeth or 168 teeth...you need 153 teeth. Oh yeah it looks like the wc-t-5 started in 1988. At least thats what it says in the jtr bible.

I know this is no help but...when i was a kid i delivered donuts to the local schools in a 240z towing a small 4x6 enclosed u-haul trailer rigged with sliders to hold many trays of donuts. prob didnt weigh too much. My favorite school I deliver to back then was the all girl Catholic school Don"t tow the 3,000 pound boat! That would be insane.

If you get a 86-92 wc t-5 (it may be 87 as stated earlier but i think its 86) dont bother taking the flywheel becaust it wont bolt to your early block. i think u will have to get a flywheel from a pre 86 camaro non wc t-5 or a aftermarket flywheel for a 2 piece seal motor with 153 teeth. But if you get the aftermarket flywheel sometimes the stock camaro clutch disc will not work because the springs hit the flywheel bolts... u will end up having to get a different disk with smaller springs. Some have had luck grinding down the flywheel bolts to make room for the springs but i did not like the idea of grinding the bolts and risk the flywheel visiting my legs

difference b/t long style and short style water pump
72zcar replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i dont know about a zx but its prob about the same and all i can tell you is its about 16 times easier to set up the alternator brackets with a long pump i have two v8 zs..one with a short and the other with a long and i think i tried about 16 brackets before i got the short mounted using pieces from this or that i cant even remember..i think i have mad cow plus the short had to go on the drivers side because the head sits forward on the passanger side and the alt would have to be mounted above the head with a short pump..too high for the hood to close..the wiring is on the passanger side so it was harder to wire also -
good job... a rattle can of heat paint is a lot cheaper and looks better too what kind of headers are those? I bet dollars to donuts they hit the steering rod looks like they will from the pic anyhow... dont think they tuck in enough. my first swap was a msa type and i bought the msa headers and bamm first time.. the second swap i used jtr mounts (kinda like better) and the first two sets of headers did not fit at all...third set i bought the sandersons from jtr and they fit but i did have to ding #3 tube and grind off quite a bit of the aluminum spacer.

thanks J. for the info.... now.. the other choice for a TRANNY is what looks like a t-5 out of a 81 zxturbo (although i thought t-5's only came in the year 83) ...if its not a t-5 its sure looks like one... could you give the same info for this tranny out of a 81 zxturbo?

Is the 280z 2+2 tranny the same as a coupe tranny out of same year? I know that the 2+2 has a larger flywheel and clutch disk and preasure plate. Is the spline the same? Will the coupe disk fit the spline? Can i take a tranny out of a 2+2 and replace my broken tranny and use my flywheel, disk, throwout bearing, disk and preasure plate? Are the gear ratios the same in a 2+2 tranny as a coupe tranny out of same year? Will it bolt right up? and i can use my driveline? Or is the tailshaft longer in a 2+2 tranny? lots of questions i know..but this info is for a bud and if i give him wrong advice...he buys this tranny he cant use i will be in a world of doodoo thanks, bob

IT PASSED DAMMIT in my local paper today.... "Schwarzenegger, who promised a year ago this week while campaigning for governor that he would be a ''green'' Republican if elected, rebuffed the lobbying of ''Tonight Show'' host Jay Leno and signed a controversial bill to require that cars 1976 and newer be permanently required to get the biennial smog checks. The bill was written by Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, D-San Jose.

This is the latest on the bill... LAST HIST. ACT. DATE: 09/17/2004 LAST HIST. ACTION : Enrolled and to the Governor at 3 p.m.

I understnd what you are saying because i did the same thing with my first swap in my 72... all i can say is don't DO IT. #1 You will be hating it on the freeway turning 3,000 rpms at 55mph on the freeway this a fact. #2 you will waste alot of money because as soon as you drive it for any distance on the freway you will be looking for a 700r4 or a t-5. now the driveline dont fit.. $$$ my advice to u is to go to pick n pull and get a wc t-5 out of a 86 or newer camaro with a v8 305, today is the last day of the sale "all trannys 69.99 + tax and other rapage On my second swap in my 73 I did the 327 / t-5 and its like night and day on the freeway and more fun to drive. Although i must say around town my 72 with the th-350 runs like a raped ape around town oh yeah..forget the chrome frills for now if you are on a buget... u will need all your money for other stuff like drivline 150-200 bucks...exhaust 300-350$ and all the ather stuff that will nickle and dime u to death, trust me i know

You may have damaged the sender when you soldered it in the adapter. I have had the sender in the head and in the intake manifold and could not see any differance in either one. I'm sure one will be a little differant than the other but it must be slight because I couldn't see any diff....

I put this on ebay for my bud... got the idea after seeing that other auction for the LS1... don't know if it will work but it would be cool if it did http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46098&item=7918621555&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW -
thanks i finally found a rod at pick your nose, mine measures 4 inches or damm close to it. mas 8230, i too had no pedal after many hour of bleeding..we tried everything.. then i made a rod 3/4 of an inch bigger and it bleed as easy as pie. I then put the stock rod back in and it works great with stock camaro slave and stock camaro master. SO you might try putting the stock rod back in now that you have it bleed and see if the bird chirp goes away....bob
-
Anyone? I called the dealer and the rod (even though its just held in by the boot) is not sold separately. Only with the slave.... I made one and it works and shifts fine (raped ape). The clutch releases about 3 inches off the floor. But when the tranny is in neutral it sound like the throwout bearing is spinning or it could just be the tranny making the noise..not sure. When i push the clutch in the sound goes away. I made the rod about 4 inches long Im just wooried that the rod may be too long causing the throwout bearing to spin even when its in neutral.... or is it supposed to spin in neutral ?

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/plates/specialplates.htm for Historical Vehicles made after 1922 that are at least 25 yrs old and of historic interest... scroll down to where it says "Historical Vehicles" Dont think my z will qualify

Can someone measure the length of the slave rod that goes between the slave and the fork on a stock camaro slave fron 1984 - 1992 please. Or if someone has an extra one It sould be about ~3~ inches long with a ball on each end thanks bob

Well i got the cc-5 sanderson headers...they did need grinding, banging AND cursing. The first tube on the drivers side was hitting the jtr aluminum setback plate. Had to grind quite a bit off the setback plate and ding the tube on the underside in bout 1/4 inch.... There is about 1/4 inch clearance with the sterring shaft.
-
Has anyone used the sanderson cc-5 that jtr recommends? If anyone has how did they fit...did they require any grinding, banging or cursing? I searched and cant find any info on the cc-5 on the hybrid site. Sanderson sells plain steel for 225 and jtr sells them for 179 so thats not too bad. thanks, bob
