Installing Eibach Progressive Springs for 240Z
lowrider replied to degofedal's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I had this problem when i installed my springs. I installed the longer of the two in the rear...big mistake! i had to do the job twice! The longer 6305.001 goes up front, while the shorter 6305.202 goes in the rear. -
Its fairly easy to bock off the EGR, just cut the metal tube. Then when you remove the exhaust manifold, unscrew where the tube attaches then put a plug in. Cut a plate that fits over the EGR. Remove all the rest of the associated EGR junk, and bolt that plate up! Its not all that hard to do! You can see my EGR block off at the end of the first page of my build thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=reply_post&f=57&t=74491&qpid=853773

Thanks man! its pretty quick for what it is, to me atleast. lol

I finally got around to making a video of the car. Its been running pretty good! The power is definetly night and day, but im sure ive said that more than a few times already. I dont thinl my fuel pump likes the higher strain that the FMU is putting on it too much, its decided to get a little louder all on its own. I guess a new fuel pump will be in the cars future before long. I averaged up my mpg this week, and staying out of boost i get 24mpg highway. Overall im happy with the setup so far! Video time!

THE TURBO IS ON! I finished up the swap weekend before last, then finally got the exhaust last monday. I have to say im enjoying boost! I got to tearing into it friday night, and by saturday night the beast was running. Farewell NA exhaust manifold. I couldnt resist putting it on to see how it fit. everything mostly back together. intercooler piping ran. my set up consists of so far: NA F54 block P79 head zxt exhaust mannifold z31 watercooled T3 ebay intercooler ebay piping kit DSM blow off valve -4an oil feed line modified NA oil pan 12:1 vortech FMU 265cc ka24e injectors NA ECU mechanical advance locked NGK wideband 3" exhaust magnaflow muffler Thats just about it i guess... Im currently running 8 psi

well, the Ka injectors work nicely! good solid AFR's up to redline...
-
Well, im going to go ahead and grab the Ka injectors. In theory all should play together, and the least that can happen is that they dont flow enough being high impedance on a low inpedance ECU. Im able to get 8 for free, so if anything ill just be out my time of swapping the darned things.
-
I just finished swaping a turbo onto my 83 NA block, along with the NA ECU. I however didnt swap larger injectors when i put everything on. Im using an 12:1 FMU to provide extra fueling, but unfortunately im maxing out the injector duty cycle around 4000rpm. After this little back ground, has anyone used SOHC KA injectors? I've researched till my head is about to explode. I know that the KA injectors are 265cc units(same as the stock turbo injectors) and i know they are high ohm also. I know you have to run a dropping resistor if your ECU is high ohm and the injectors are low ohm, but what about the other way around? Any light shed onto my buldging brain would be greatly appreciated!

Another Starting Issue, no spark *pics*
lowrider replied to Daphur280's topic in Ignition and Electrical
I personaly dont have any experience with the zxt wiring, but i did swap an NA system into my s30. I had a problem when i first tried starting the car. The injectors were'nt being activated. It turned out that i had a wire wrong. The only thing the ecu needs to fire the injectors on an NA is a tach signal. Weather this is the same for the turbo, i dont know. I just thought i would throw that out there. -
Good deal, ive already reserved a cabin and have a few friends going to cut down on costs. lol, yepp they do have a car show but my z is far from pretty so im not too worried about that part. Im looking forward to tearing up the dragon with BOOST!
-
Man your not far from home at all! Surely your going to Zdayz in may?!? I have to get what i have running like a champ already before i pump much more boost to it!
-
Thats what im afraid of! Im limiting myself to 7-8 psi untill i can buy an EMS like megasquirt that gives me finer control.
-
For the engine control im using the stock 83 280zx NA ecu. For extra fueling im using a vortech FMU. The distributor's mech advance is welded up tight and timing and set 10 degrees. Im using a T3 off of a 300zx with the watercooled center. Ebay FMIC and piping with the piping ran the same way as KTM's. I have a wideband to moniter AFR's. Tomorrow i will be getting my 3" exhaust with stainless muffler. Im running the factory wastegate setting for now, or atleast untill i feel the itch for more power. lol Pictures and Vids later!!! i need a decent camera for both! lol
-
lol, its definetly different. Im actually using the stock na ecu, but i am using an FMU as a fueling bandaid. The tuning im refering to is the cranking of the afm wheel to get my afr's right.
-
I just now finished the turbo swap onto my na 83 motor in my 260z. I must say the power difference is amazing! No wonder everyone opts for the l28et, such a big difference! Im getting my exhaust tomorrow, then let the tuning begin. Im sorry this is not really a constructive post, but i just had to show my excitement!

That car is a local around my parts. The car was built by TONY C, he is a member here. He then sold it to Jared, the current owner. I know that the piping is 2 1/2 from the down pipe back, but i dont know what muffler it has on it. Maybe you can try pming Tony and see what it has for a muffler.

72 240z, front brake system questions
lowrider replied to BTF/PTM's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Im running the 15/16 master cylinder with the stock brakes on my 260 currently(4x4 fronts and rear disks planned for the future). The braking effort is next to nothing, I would definetly check the booster. It should be the cause of the "weak brake feel" as long as the rest of the braking system is up to par. -
I finally got the majority of the stuff for the swap. I just need a few gaskets and to fab some stuff and it should all come together! I got the remainder of my silicone couplers for my intercooler piping so i decided to start cutting piping to fit. Im going to have to wait to finish when i get the turbo in. I plan on running the piping under the oil pan like KTM. so far so good!

Sweet thanks Dan, your the man!

I tried adding some current info to my build thread, but it says i dont have permission to post a reply... Thanks for all the hard work guys!

Yea, I believe the 280z's had them nounted on the passenger side kick panel next to the fuses. I wouldnt risk driving it back and forth, its a ticking time bomb waiting to leave you stranded somewhere. I wouldnt trust it!
-
I had a similar problem, the car would just randomly decide that it didnt want to have spark. It would do this intermediatly in the worse possible times leaving me stranded. I lived with it for a while untill it finaly gave up the ghost. The problem with mine turned out to the the transistor ingition module that is mounted inside on the passenger side firewall. I was fortunate enough to snag one from a 280z that was in the local pull-a-part. All my problems went away there after! When i pulled my transistor ignition module out it was fried, The insulation inside the thing had melted and turned to goo... very very stick goo. Maybe thats a possibility?

If its been a manuel all its life then it doesnt have the neutral safety switch circuit. Another thing that could have also been throwing me for a loop is the seat belt interlock system, but Im not sure if the 240z has this?
-
I had a similar problem with my 260z when it had the L26 and auto trans. It would click and the starter wouldnt turn over. I would have to repeatedly try it untill it would finely engauge. I always had a sneaking suspsion that it was my neutral safety switch. After the L28 swap i looped the neutral saftey switch with a jumper, and a few other connections. Now it starts every time...

The 4 wheeler was a blast, i had tons of fun pulling the neighbor hood kids behind it on a tube! The roads were pretty bad here sunday morning. Eventually the sun came out and melted the majority of it, the roads are crytal clear now. Thanks man, they would be alot nicer if they were in the shop! lol
