OK guys i got specs.... well some just from my dad.It has the 273 4bbl 4sp one of 4874 made.It is the original engine and dad did buy it new.I hate to turn in the title to the state!The vin verifies that it is a true v8 car and it was built in St.Louis MO and it is a 1965 cuda.My dad also told me that my bro came and got the other cuda he had(66) and dropped it off the trailor trying to get it on.One of the ramps fell out and it got stuck on the trailor so they had to jack it up to get it free. My brother is an idiot! he has no buisness getting one of these cars but i guess he is family and i'm glad dad gave me the good one I'm making plans to get it in the spring-summer time and he said it was cool. It's being stored in the garage so i don't have to worry about any more crap getting on it.He also has some wheels he bought for it a while ago i think they are cragars but they need rechroming.I can't wait for spring

thanks guys and i won't forget the z site.I have to wait til like summer to get it.I'm gonna take my z and a friend and then truck the car back with a ryder rental and he's gonna drive my baby back.I know a guy here that has back fenders for the galss'd cudas so i'll get those from him and then just make the res of the parts myself.The z is my baby and will always be but the cuda is prolly gonna make me sell two cars cuz i won't have any intrest in them anymore.I'll definately take pics and keep everyone updated. Man i love those ol cudas and i'm not gonna make it look dumb.It'll be mostly stock except for wheels and tires maybe might twin turbo it tho

thanks guys and len it's in quincy ILL it's where i use to live,It's close to St.Louis.I can't wait to get it i do plan to paint it like it was before red and white.I have one pic of it when it was sitting next to the 66 cuda that my dad also owns.The 65 is the better of the two cuz the 66 has the strtaight 6 in it and it's an auto. But i have to scan it the pic is old.

I dunno for sure but the white stripe was on the bottom of the doors.It has the high output 273 in it and says so on the aircleaner.Mom use to whoop vettes with it.

hey guys i finally got one of the cars i have always wanted.My dad called today and told me that he couldn't give me any money for christmas this year.I explained to him that he doesn't have to get me anything. He insisted that i get something and then offered me his old first car that i have always drooled over since i can remember.He said he'd sell it to me for 1 dollar and i said ok.Ok here are the specs on the car some people might like the car some might hate it.It is 1965 barracuda fast back with the 273 V8 and 4sp stick! I love this car it use to be red with white racing stripes but my dad painted it blue.My first thing is to get it running since i have never seen it run in my life.Then it needs body work and then of course nice wheels and lowering.The catch it that it's about 13 hours from me and i have to go get it But since i have wanted this car for so long i happily accepted.I'll get pics and updates when i get it.

hey tim the cylinders are perfect no scratches or anything!I am just gonna run a berry bush thru them to make the nice little cross lines in it and get it ready for the new rings.I dunno how far the cyls can be taken but when it goes again i'm going for the forged pistons.I wanna see how far i can take the stock bottom end and how long it will hold.If i hadn't let it detonate i would have been fine but stupid me I had to push it and i pushed it very hard..... I"m suprised it didn't die after the way i drove it after it broke.

I'm interested in an engine management system too.I was gona go sds but if i can find better/cheaper i'll go that route.Let me know

i kinda like taking the engine out But i do have a line on some good forged pistons i just need rods, Those are gonna cost the big money.The sds is like 850 and that will take most of my tax return if not all.Then i'll be strapped for cash.I want to do it right but if i don't have the cash then i'm kinda stuck.I'm gonna get a good ic before i run it this coming year so i know the stock bottom end will handle it,as long as i don't let it detonate like i did before.It actually detonated alot before it went so i know it'll hold up good.(i hope)

thanks len, the more i think about it i think i'm gonna go with the new stock pistons and just amke due whith what i have.But there it the one part of me that wants to do every thing right and change the pistons.I will get the new ic cuz i need it and the same with the stand alone engine management system.I believe the stcok bottom end will handle alot from what i have dished out to it.

that is good thinking tony maybe i'll just get what i need and get the rest later.But i think i'll still get the pistons from tim so i have them and then worry about the rods later.I co0uld just slap in the pistons with out any cylinder work since they are so nice.But i think i'll run the berry bush thru it again and call it good.Now the next question should i use nissan pistons or should i have my father-in9law order me two?I used carquest rings before i'm sure the pistons will be fine.I might even replace all the rings but then maybe not i dunno yet i have to get prices.I feel like my head is gonna explode

well guys got it pulled down and the verdict is............. the ringlands broke and so did one ring.The first piston got the worse of the two in damage.The number two piston has one small crack and one small break.The cylinder walls look good no pitting or grooves which is very good.I can't believe the strength of these l28's i have beat on this motor and then turned around and beat on it more and it just smiles at me.I have to say this engine is the strongest engine i know of or have ever seen.After i broke it i still raced people with it and beat on it figuring it's already broke might as well finish it off and you know what i couldn't! There is no way i'd go with another engine after all this i'm sticking to the engine that i have been proven to can handle just about anything.I have a question for you guys... i could just replace the two pistons, rings, and bearings and put it back together or i could just do as i was and get the forged pistons and new rods, what would you do and keep in mind i'm not working for a place that pays alot like some of the big dawgs on here I am getting an aftermarket engine management system no matter what.But that just about takes all the money i'll have for it this year.The rods are gonna cost alot but i'm ready for that.Give me your two cents please? oh ya if anyone wants to see pics of the pistons let me know i'll put some on the net.

hey tony my best time with the t4e compressor at 10 psi was in my sig at 12.86 @109mph.I still got the injectors that i got from you and i think they are plunty big.I did port and polish the intake ports on the head and ported and polished the intake too.They are all nice and smooth and the intake matches the head.After this maybe i can hang with the big dogz on here

scottie was your post aimed twords me?I know i'm not making a whole lot of power but i am planning on getting over 10 psi this coming year with a good ic.I could only run 10 psi and still did way better than my last quater time.I am gonna try to make a exhaust header cuz i have my old hooker header that is dying from rust.So i'll cut off all the pipes and make my own and support the turbo with another bracket to prevent cracking.I was thinking since i'm making the header i might as well make the external wastegate in there too.I had big prob this year controlling the turbo but i think it's the dial a boost.I do have a hybrid turbo t3/t4e with a .70 a/r on the housing i don't know the wheel specs.I plan to get timz's old pistons and some nice rods and hook up the bottom end.Also i plan to get his ic( i get well tested parts from him )and a nice engine management system for it.I should get over 350 rwhp this year(hopefully).I appreciate the help from all the guys and don't mean to make anyone think i'm being snotty if i was.Sleeper, i was beating on it too much this year at the track and when it detonated i didn't let off and either broke rings or ring lands.Only in the number one and two cylinders.That's why she is getting torn down again.I'm not gonna make that mistake again but in all honesty i was planning on rebuilding it so i didn't care if it blew it.I must say the L28et is one strong engine cuz even after i broke it at the track i drove it and raced it the rest of the summer.It would still whoop anything in town before i pulled the engine too.

the reason i am getting a external wastegate is cuz i want more control and i think tony is right according to maximum boost. Also I think i'm gonna try to make a turbo header.The dp is smaller cuz there is only so much room to make it fit,also the outlet on the turbo is only 2.5".If any of the turbo gods wanna help like scottie just jump in and tony yes i still plan to do the forged pistons and new rods and i think maybe i'll use the stock head gasket.I'm also getting an sds or something equal to it to control the ignition and fuel.

well it's that time when the snow falls and i go thru my engine.Seems like just last year i was doing the same thing..... oh ya it was last year I just got the engine out today and i'll start on her disassembly prolly tomorrow or monday to see what i broke when i was beating the crap out of it at the drag strip.I think it's rings or ring lands but i guess we will see.I'll get pics and it only took me about 2 hrs to take the engine out, I'm getting better I plan to get an extranal wastegate and good ic along with an engine management system.So far i have only seen that the sds comes with coil packs everything else i have seen doesn't seem to include them.

hey len do you have an air fuel gauge?If so look what it says if not then use a volt meter and check your o2 sensor reading.If you can also check to see if your wires from the cylinder head temp sense are not grounded.You can test this with the ohms part of the volt meter and see if it goes to short.An easy thing you could try is unhooking your head temp sense and see if it runs pig rich if so then your sensor is bad and shorting out.IF not and it still does that it is more than likely a wire shorted to ground somewhere.BumbleZ had the same prob and i accidently did it too when i had a resistor in my head temp sensor wire and it touched ground my car would run good but as soon as i got even close to boost it would just die.Hopefully this helps

ok sounds good except for the a/r on the exhaust side of the turbo.The stock one is like .63 a/r and is it a t4e or a t4b?I bought a t4e /t3 hybrid off the net and i had to change the exhaust side on it and it works great.I'd suggest doing that if you still have the old turbo.

hey bill it was a first gen eclipse and i know they can be fast as hell,I'm not saying that i'm just questionable about what he hsaid he had done to it.He told me this was his second tranny so i'm figuring he has a bit more done to it than he said.

there are only like 3 wires that actually go to the car's wiring.It is really easy i did my whole swap in a weekend.I started like len said i bought my donor car for 100 bucks and i got it running good with the help of a new turbo,ecu,and afm and then after driving it a bit swapped it into my car.Last year i spent like 1k on my set up including the donor car and everything else i listed.The car hit high 12's with the stock turbo 18 psi of boost and a volvo ic.

i'll help porting the head won't hurt anything.I did mine for cheap too and they handle the power good it doesn't take much to get the l28et making good power.Just need some good injectors,good ic,good breathing exhaust,and that's about it it'll make really good power from just those mods the turbo is capable of putting out 18 psi of boost with a good ic.I ran mine with it all stock except for the merkur injectors i got and the volvo ic.I put 3" exhaust on my z but had the stock dp and still ran high 12's on street tires and pump gas.Now i have stepped up a bit but before it was all budget and kinda still is.I'd say the biggest things will be what i said injectors,ic,exhaust and a good air cleaner good luck

when i get someone telling me that i should have put a V8 in my z i just tell them what it does in the quarter and then they just shut up. I usually ask the V8 guys why they didn't go turbo six
