i have a line on a conquest for about 100bucks the body is in great shape but the engine might be shot i was looking at my options and that guy still has the GN engine pre ic engine.I was thinking for 500 bucks my friend could get the engine and we could put it in the conquest. What do you guys think has anyone done this that i could ask?My friend is planning on getting this car cuz if i got another my lady would cut some vital outside organs off so i talked my friend into it and he's game.Any opinions or ideas would be appreciated

Thanks i just see so many cars making huge amounts of power and i'd like to be there someday.I'd also like to think there isn't a limit to how much can come out of a L28.I have to say 400hp would make me a happy camper for about a uear then i'd be just wanting more.I'd love to have tim's car it is soooooo nice but i eventually will want more(the worse drug in the world)I guess i'll just have to push the limits if i get there -
hey tony it is a good idea to leave it on there it all works together it adjusts the timing when the throttle is closed and when it's open in different positions.I had an 80zx and mine wouldn't go above 2k after i washed it so i isolatewd it to the tps and i unhooked it and it would rev up well i didn't have any money at the time to get a new one so i just drove it like that and everytime i let off the throttle after really getting on it it would back fire very loudly and eventually blew the muffler apart So it would be a good idea to leave it on the other stuff doesn't really matter but i'm sure it is vital for the turbo cars. But i'm not god and couldbe wrong if so someone let me know i am just going by my expirence

I'll have pics tomorrow i forgot to get some today But the head id on and torqued the bottom end is done just waiting for the oil pan to go on and the valve cover to go on too(both are being painted)Can't wait for the new turbo and clutch i'm on my way to 400hp baby well i hope so I'm porting the intake runners and the head a bit also polishing them all too.Hoping to get a better throttle body too for the added flo it's going to be great

thanks for the info i already have the dp from scottie and 3" exhaust all the way to the back.Right now i'm poor and can only afford so much. But i figure i'm only 24 so i have alot of time to do more plus if you stuck me in a 600hp car with no expirence on that much power i'd probably kill myself or get alot of tickets Timz said it best when he told me to work my way up to what ever i wanted cuz it's safer for me and the car -

Thanks BLKMGK that helped alot in understanding the supra I'm just wondering if timz is the only one to get his L series engine in the 400 hp numbers? and i'm talking with out NOS and methenal. I want to know that 400 isn't the most you can get out of a L28 motor.I tried to blow mine well not really but it took a huge beating and still asked for more it just totally suprised me how much abuse that engine took from me i detonated many times and didn't hurt anything! The thing looks great inside the only thing that needed replacing in there was the rings everything else was great the cylinder walls where unscored and no wear ring at the top of them. When i picked my engine up from the shop from being hot-tanked and there was a 400 chevy motor in there for a rebuild and it had crazy wear in the cylinders and everything else.I have to say they are very strong motors i want to build it as far as i can and to say i have a 600hp L series motor would be great i know it will cost me but is it possible? -
I know timz is getting over 400hp at the wheels with his but has anyone got higher than that on the inline six motor?I'm just curious cuz i see all this stuff about supra engines getting like 600 from no internal mods how can that be?Does the dual cams make that much of a difference?or what is it that makes them so easy to mod for big power?
-
wow it should have hydraulic lifters unless someone changed them.I know a guy looking to change his hydro ones to regular ones so he can run higher boost from what you said he should be able to swap them easy.Oh ya thanks for confirming the dual spring thing
-
guys i was wondering if the stock turbo p90 head came with dual valve springs?Mine does and i thought it was kinda weird but it could all be stock i've never had to take an l28 motor apart before so i was suprised to see the duals on it.

i have to take notes it sounds like you guys have done this before I'm planning on using some ground plain tape the radio guys will know what that is but for those who don't it's tape that radio installers use to put on fiberglass roofs to fool the antenna of a two way radio to think it's in a metal roof if the tape isn't on there it will get very high standing wave and basically be useless. But the bonus is that it's silver well i think aluminum and it looks just like chrome i want to use it for two stripes down the center of the hood and roof I still have to change the blinker fluid it's been slowing me down alot. The conooter valve is new i just changed it but it is stock.I don't even know what the heck those other valves are that kc6wfs wrote about The nos sticker is only a 50 shot sticker maybe i should get a bigger 100 shot sticker

yesterday i was on my way to my g-friend's dad's store and i hit some slush and got out and saw my coffie ca...i mean performance exhaust tip has been ripped off by the slush. But on a good note i found the local auto parts store started carrying the rice stuff so i got a new tip 4" but it doesn't give the hp gains the maxwell house did But i did get some go fast stickers to make up for the difference the NOS sticker made the biggest difference i raced a guy in a chevy pickup i had him off the line but he must of had a bigger shot of NOS cuz he got me in the top end I gotta get more stickers then he'll be hurting

wait till you drive it and feel that turbo spool up man it's almost btter than sex alomst
-
well i finally got it back from the shop today and i had to hone it myself and i also ported and polished the head myself. But besides not having the main bearings it's ready to go back togeather.I have everything else i'm just waiting for the bearings and i'll be done with that part of the build up.Next comes the tranny and rear and the expensive clutch i have to get.The engine should be done by next week
-
thanks i got an easy 40 hp gain just from the tip i was very disapointed i thought i'd get more oh well i'll just have to get more stickers to make up the difference
-
heeeeyyyyy i can market them and make some money to fund my z

well i'd have to say the inline 6 motor they just won't die i beat the crap out of mine and it still ran great.I'm rebuilding it for more power and it's not hard to get alot of the L6 motors look at mine i only put like 1k in mine including the engine which is an 81zxt engine and it haulls a$$.But then i'm bias too.but in the thinking of wear of the engines you can figure that the L6 engine will have less wear because of the gravity not pushing on just one side of the piston all the time like V8's and V6's.Go with what you like that's what we do If i was to do it again i wouldn't change a thing i love my turbo inline six
-
very nice so when are you going to drive this beast?I personally like the little bike in the last pic by the head lite on the passenger side.Do you drive that to work while the z is laid up?

Timz would be the man to ask about 400wrhp he has one hell of a car.He is using the nissan motor and one huge turbo.Very smart guy he has helped me alot look for his email i thin it's on here.

well i've been posting the results of my engine i took it out over the weekend and got it taken apart yesterday and found it to be in great shape for over 140k miles on it.But i ran into a snag i found my compression problem and fuel into the oil problem. The top ring groove has worn alot the ring moves up and down in the piston alot.I took it to the machine shop to see if they can put in some kind of spacer that they use to use a long time ago.Should i just go for new pistons or try to fix the old ones? They are in good shape besides the top ring groove. Also can i just get the pistons from my g-friend's dad's store or should i use nissan pistons? Is one stronger than the other? The machine shop guy his name is larry he doesn't believe i'll get 400 hp out of a six cylinder but i'll proove him wrong. The arank looks new even though it's been in the engine for 21 years and it has p-30 on it does that mean anything? The pistons have p-90 on them just like the head does that mean anything either?I could really use your help thanks

well got it all apart and the thing is just amazing!!!! it has no wear in the cylinders no lip at the top from worn cylinder walls i was just totally amazed. It had some carbon build up but it was great and the turbo is in great shape too it hasn't worn at all running 18psi of boost for that long so i'm very impressed.Nissan makes one hell of a motor my rebuild kit is going to cost about 150 and i need a new oilpump too mine is junk and should be replaced anyway.I'm planning on a new water pump too since i got it apart. So far all the pistons look great no broken ring lands little carbon but perfect even after some detonation.Cylinder walls smooth no scratches head in great shape no gouges i'm going to have a valve job done tomorrow and oeder my rebuild kit for it and maybe a new timing chain and tensioner what do you guys think? new chain or use the old parts?everything just looks so good it's hard to believe it has that many miles on it and it had the crap beat out of it from me and the previous owner.Well had to update this even though it seems no one reads my posts just incase someone is following this progress.

well guys it's out i took it out this weekend it took me about two hours to get it out by my self. Now the disassembly starts and the real work begins
-
hey scottie i'm not planning on modding it cuz my mom would be scared of it.I wanted to keep it stock maybe add an ic nothing special. Is the only difference in the engines from year to year the ic or did they change stuff?
-
well as scottie and others know i have a chance to buy a gn motor for about 500 bucks with trans and computer wiring too.But the question is have any of you guys seen a fiat spyder with one in it?I bought a spyder for my mom as a present and it needs some motor work and trans work so i figured why not install a gn motor and trans? It will need the radiator right?and what else from the gn? Too many projects not enuf time or money
