Assuming they still use the same mounting setup in a Skyline the diff should bolt up but the half-shafts are probably not going to work I would imagine they are quite a bit longer than the ones on a 280z.

So I got a call about an old Mazda...

I've heard of the ATF/Marvels trick I am trying it now neither one was seized which is odd considering they sat for 20 years but neither one will fire as they sit hopefully I can get at least one to fire and mabe sell it as is, I decided to keep one since I will probably never see another one again and I will be kicking myself down the road when theese things are the new Mopars on the auction block. -

Hmm, I didn't realize they were so popular or valuable looks like I will try to clean them up a little over the next year or so and sell them off, one of the cars is in pretty good condition the other one is a little more rough but both are solid and don't have any major rust spots just some surface rust on the hood and deck lid, one will need a new a back window though as it is cracked pretty badas far as the interior goes both radios are missing and some misc. trim is missing from one car but the other looks to be complete (I have no idea what it's supposed to look like). Oh well, looks like I have another project, thanks for the heads up on the value and rarity of these cars I had no idea they were so uncommon -

Sure sorry I forgot all I've got on hand is a google image my camera is in my barracks...several thousand miles away. The two I picked up are coupes and even the same color granted a little more weathered to tell you the truth I'd never even heard of them prior to him calling me but I like the body style. -
I just "inherited" a pair of RX-2s that were out back of a friends house, he bought them years ago and always planned to junk them but never did it for whatever reason and just let them sit for almost 20 years and he recently was cleaning up his backyard remembered he had them and called me thinking "Hey Jensen's kid is into that old Jap crap maybe he wants them", so I got them for free he just said I owed him a favor. I had no idea why I even took them they aren't in bad shape but neither one runs and the last thing I need is another project, but then a chance happening gave me an evil genius plan to end all evil genius plans, I stopped at the shop on the way home with the 2nd car and we happened to have a big block chevy on the stand we were rebuilding for a mud truck and I got that evil little glimmer in my eye and after some rough measuring I think it will fit in the engine bay with a little modification, I really don't need this right now since I have to go back to Japan in a week but I think this may be my next major project talk about a sleeper. I haven't been able to unearth much information on them except that they are based and the 616/Capella chassis and came stock with a 12A, so does anyone know anything about them? I really don't need anything too specific just some general information would be nice before I delve too deep into this.

Wow what an accurate portrayal of Navy life, I didn't think anyone could capture the "feeling" of shipboard life that well. Oh well they sent me to Japan and I couldn't be happier especially since I sleep in a barracks in Atsugi and not on the Kitty. Back when I was in Norfolk we would take field trips to Langley for cross service morale building namely raiding the Air Force mess hall (they have way better food) but it's all good fun, now if you'll excuse me I need to dissasemble the largest POS on the planet (E-2C Hawkeye) for it's corrosion inspection.

I have only broken 1 U-joint halfshaft since I've owned my Z and it was not a fun experience, basically the whole car pulled hard to the right and I started hearing a KA-THUNK,KA-THUNK,KA-THUNK,KA-THUNK every second or so luckily I wasn't going but 20 or so but it still sucked and beat the tar out of the floorpan, granted mine was due to it being old and tired but I wouldn't chance it with a turbo V8 even with an auto source a Q45 R200 those are an LSD anyway IIRC and their cheap.

Dustyn-'72, '78 2+2 both in storage until I get back back from Japan neither one is anything special but I've got big plans for the '72 .

Demon/Holley carb question
SilentNight1647 replied to lbhsbZ's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Mine only gets about 7mpg but it's on a 427 race-only big block in a full bodied '71 Nova so it really can't be taken as any indication. I do have a friend that runs one on a 383 in his '80 Cutlass and it gets 16-18 sometimes as high as 20 if he stays out of the throttle so it's not bad. -

Demon/Holley carb question
SilentNight1647 replied to lbhsbZ's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I've got a Race Demon on the shelf at the house and IIRC the bowls are a different shape altogether than the Holley they are more round and the bowl is actually a semi circle where as a Holley is a square shape, sorry I can't tell you for sure but I'll look tonight when I go home. My Demon got shelved when I bought one of theese best money I ever spent the response is almost as good as fuel injection and it never needs to be adjusted or jetted. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_743833_-1_10271 -
AutoLites best plug out their it's all I use.

Distributor Question
SilentNight1647 replied to Hopelessly Confused's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
The easiest way to determine what kind of distrubitor you have is to look at the connection, if it is a sockect on the cap it's points, if it's a sockect on the wire it's an HEI, and I do beleive the single black wire goes to the negative side of coil like pparaska said at least that's the way my 240 is wired. -
On the way to work today I noticed my car was hissing and not making any boost. After a quick once over I noticed the BOV (Greddy Type S) was leaking around the top where the allen bolts hold it together. I know very little about these things can I fix it? I figure if I take it apart I can just put a bead of RTV around between the upper and lower pieces it should stop leaking or is their a o-ring I can replace in their? I'd really some help on this issue, this hissing is really annoying.

No I don't imagine you would need a lift for that project just a floor jack, a good drill and bits, and alot of patience. I can't vouch for the Autopower rollbar personally but I've heard good things just test fit it to see if you like it.

So wait a minute they made a G nose S130? I never knew that I'm definetly interested in one might have to pick one up later this year when I'm over there.
-
I am seeing this build come together now TT rods, Wiseco pistons, Isky turbo cams, my Procharger. Yep I can definetly see myself getting in trouble which is always a good place to start. Thanks for the info on the VG motors I really didn't realize the DOHC and SOHC were so comparable and even if the DE can make more I've got the 30E so why not use it.
-
I have been thinking alot about being stationed in Japan later this year and as a car guy most of that thought has revolved around what kind of cool stuff I can buy over there that I can't here. So I was wondering is their anywhere I should specifically hit up for Z parts and the like? I definetly plan to try and visit all the major tuning shops while I'm their but I'm looking for more of the hole in the wall shops that produce all the really cool stuff. Thanks for any input, I'd really appreciate some other users expertise in making my tour as memorable as possible.
-
I didn't realize that the SOHC could make more power than the DOHC, I was thinking 4 valves a cylinder why not? I think I might supercharge the VG, I've an older Procharger laying around I got off a mustang guy that has been begging me to use it ever since I put it on the shelf, I think that might be a cool setup a supercharged VG in a '72 Z, it's either that or a 421, I really do like the idea of a VG though at least it has some originality and it's lighter too boot.

The car is lowered have knuckles in the springs to hold it up higher due to ground clearance issues in Virginia, the roads out here suck and they would tear the hell out of my car.
-
Congrats on getting it done it's a good feeling isn't it, I'd love to see some pictures. I don't have a clue about th clutch maybe they were talking about an S30 with a manual throwout bearing as opposed to the hydraulic one on the ZX.
-
Wow I didn't realize their were so many nice looking ZXs out their I thought most people shunned them in favor of S30s. Here is a pic of mine: I wish I had a more current picture of it (probably 6 months old) but my camera is out of batteries at the moment and I don't feel like driving to the store right now. Anyway now it has a nice crack in the airdam due to a 3" long chunk of rebar sticking out of a parking stop at a 7/11 and a whole bunch of paint chips due to a rather flaky paint job that is now quite old, oh well just an excuse to paint it again, what do you guys think? I would like white with two black or blue racing stripes or maybe solid black and tint the windows.
